This release has certainly been a polarising time among ARMY. There's been a lot of very vocal opposition of Jack's part and then subsequently a lot of really interesting theories. I won't delve too deep but there are a few interesting things to note. There's a lot of themes of black and white, 2 sides of the same thing. The man with the black and white hair that puts on the device that brings them to the other reality. The person on the horse that's half black and white. How Jungkook starts in the white outfit on the staircase, then is in the all black outfit in the rain. And maybe most importantly the chess game. The theory that people are running with is that the song is showing two different sides of love and masculinity. Jungkook's side which is deep love and devotion and wanting to bring pleasure to their partners whereas Jack's represents a more toxic masculinity where you're promiscuous and don't care about your partners. Jungkook also made a comment that he'd never played chess before the mv shooting and he learned on set and beat Jack. So look into that how you will. If the song indeed is meant to represent the 2 different sides then it is indeed a really interesting and bold choice musically. I have to admit I haven't really listened to western music since the early 2000s when I was in high school so I don't really know how common this is in western music but I really haven't heard this style used in any of the Korean music I've listened to. But in metal there's a lot of play of vocals of having one person represent a good pov (usually clean vocals) and one representing a bad/evil pov (usually harsh vocals). An absolutely excellent example of this used is in Epica. The mix of Simone's beautiful and powerful operatic voice vs Mark's harsh vocals. *chef's kiss* amazing. I'm an army for more than 7 years so it's not that some of us would judge jk or anything, it's actually the opposite, we know his range, his lyricism and personally I had high expectations for his solo projects. Seven was ok, like a not so hidden message to armys telling he is not innocent anymore, but now this with Jack's part which says basically nothing,just some random verses with no logic....also, a little piece of advice, just because we are army it doesn't mean we must drool and blindely stream and support every song otherwise the others will ask us to leave the fandom!

JK asked him to play this part. Remember beginning of video it's JK on phone & end it's Jack hanging up saying just wants to meet in person & doesn't mean they have to do anything but hoping they will be allowed to touch ... all consenual by all involved. Ladies do same as men when going thru this stage in life's journey. & person laying out on ground is to represent him being knocked out by how gorgeous looking & wanting his friends to see her. THANK GOODNESS they released the alt version sans Harlow, cause just like you, his verse took me completely out and even the visuals during his part made me feel really guarded. I'm not really drawn to pop anymore and am pretty particular about what media I consume...and seeing the 1 dimensional women (all same clothes, same pleasant facial expressions, no movement in their body, complete focus on Jack...docile) and then him counting off women...just wasn't it. There was a lot of discourse on Army twt these past few days. There are some Army who are just not ready to see JK grown and singing about sex...BUT then there are those like me that don't care as long as I feel empowered and can vibe with it. The reference to dead bodies (while I see it comes from Stand by Me) just is unfortunate b/c again as a woman, there is so much violence we encounter in terms of sex...it just felt really triggering for many. Also, there has been dissection of his lyrics, and maybe it's a mismatch between his intent and skill level, but seems like he's talking about his past self versus now, and there is this really subtle battle in the vid between toxic masc and the joyful, expressive, freeing sexuality that JK was offering...BUT also maybe intent versus mismatch of visuals, but the video's visuals didn't quite hit the mark for that either.

I love the song, but I really don't love Jack's verse. He's saying questionable things, and I do like Jungkook's performance, vocals, and his lines in the song. I like that we got a little bit of rapper Jungkook, taking it back to their beginnings, but I know he could do so much more. He did keep the choreography simple, I think so people can do dance challenges, and when he performs it live, it will be easier for him to concentrate on his overall performance. THANK GOODNESS they released the alt version sans Harlow, cause just like you, his verse took me completely out and even the visuals during his part made me feel really guarded. I'm not really drawn to pop anymore and am pretty particular about what media I consume...and seeing the 1 dimensional women (all same clothes, same pleasant facial expressions, no movement in their body, complete focus on Jack...docile) and then him counting off women...just wasn't it. There was a lot of discourse on Army twt these past few days. There are some Army who are just not ready to see JK grown and singing about sex...BUT then there are those like me that don't care as long as I feel empowered and can vibe with it. The reference to dead bodies (while I see it comes from Stand by Me) just is unfortunate b/c again as a woman, there is so much violence we encounter in terms of sex...it just felt really triggering for many. Also, there has been dissection of his lyrics, and maybe it's a mismatch between his intent and skill level, but seems like he's talking about his past self versus now, and there is this really subtle battle in the vid between toxic masc and the joyful, expressive, freeing sexuality that JK was offering...BUT also maybe intent versus mismatch of visuals, but the video's visuals didn't quite hit the mark for that either.

I love the song, but I really don't love Jack's verse. He's saying questionable things, and I do like Jungkook's performance, vocals, and his lines in the song. I like that we got a little bit of rapper Jungkook, taking it back to their beginnings, but I know he could do so much more. He did keep the choreography simple, I think so people can do dance challenges, and when he performs it live, it will be easier for him to concentrate on his overall performance. Ngl Jack Harlow's parts made me cringe. His rythm was super basic, the lyrics were not it and the rhyming lazy. I mean rhyming body with body in the same sentence doesn't sound great at all. Jungkook killed it though and the alternative version is fire.
