- Hello lovely people!
I'm in such a scatter-brained state this evening, that I'm not even sure I introduced myself at the beginning of the video! :-)
So, come along with me as I show you two different ways to make hexagons (hexies) for your slow stitch or crazy quilt project! You'll even get a story about mice in garage for free!
Thank you and have a great day!

I certainly did not know how to do this! Thanks for doing this tutorial! I could not imagine being able to work on video!!
Thank you! You know, I don't find working on a video very easy either. I watch other channels and the ladies all just seem so comfortable with it. I always thought that since I love to talk a lot that I'd be a natural at this, but I find it's not as easy as I thought. Thanks for watching and your continued support! xo
Sparrowhawker Designs / Lauretta Allen i think you are the sweetest, best person on UA-cam. No fooling. The handwork and beading you do are glorious. And when you have completed your quilt, it will be a most unique creation. I hope you have a plan for displaying it for all the world to see. Any plans yet?
@@carolynshanks2612 Oh my gosh, how sweet of you. I'm not sure how to display the quilt (when it's finished) for the whole world to see, other than putting it out on social medial. I am considering having it professionally photographed, though. We'll see. xoxo
Sparrowhawker Designs / Lauretta Allen by any chance do you have a quilt show in your area? Under the present circumstances, I know things are not typical, but what you have created is as unique as they come.
@@carolynshanks2612 The only quilt shows we have are the ones put on by specific guilds, so you have to belong to that guild to show your work. I think there is a state fair, but it is clear on the other side of the state and I don't usually attend. And yeah, because of Covid, nothing is open or running, but that's okay, since the travel-themed crazy quilt probably won't be completely finished for another year, if you count sewing the blocks together and the binding etc. So by the time it's finished things might be back to normal. Believe it or not, I can't enter it in anything like the AQS show in Paducah etc, because it's not actually a "quilt." There is no batting and the guidelines for most of those types of shows are that it must have all three layers to be considered a quilt. So, we'll see what happens when things get back to normal. ~ L
Very cool tutorial. I've only done this by pressing the edges of the circle to the center (and then tacking), so this technique is much more portable. No iron needed! Thank you!
You're welcome! Glad I could help and thank you for watching!
I didn't even know there was a way to make a hexie without papers inside. Thanks for sharing!
When I learned this, I was a new woman! :-) lol Because I hate those little papers. I mean, I will do it on some projects, but for the slow stitch, I'd rather not mess with the paper. Take care, xo
Love this tutorial...would love to see you do your little fan also. TFS
Thank you! I'll think about the fans. It would require a sewing machine, ironing board and rotary cutters. It would definitely have to be something filmed in more than one location and edited together. Thank you for watching and for the suggestion. xo
This would be a really toasty warm quilt with all of those layers! thanks for sharing
Thank you!
Oh my goodness, your block is glorious. I feel certain that Rachel loves it because I can’t imagine anyone not loving it. It made me think that I must make something in red, white, and blue - a thought that has never crossed my mind before. I love your stitching and I especially love it on this block. You are awesome!
Thank you so very much! Thank you for watching and take care! xo
Thanks for showing this!!! I have NEVER seen this! Please don’t doubt yourself cause you are AMAZING and and AWESOME TEACHER!!! I am SO HAPPY I FOUND YOU!!!

Oh, thank you for this tutorial! I did not know how to do this. Something sort of similar but not this . I have paper pieced a long time ago. This looks really great... and nice and neat. Thanks for sharing that! 🤗🍀👩❤️💋👩
Thank you, Jeannie! Hope that you are well!! xo
Making a hexxie from a circle with just needle and thread... Hmph... I wish my parents would have send me to the witches and wizard school where you learned this. Definitely a lack in upbringing, I had no idea! 👀 Very cool, looks awesome. Thanks Lauretta for filling in the gaps of my upbringing 😉❤️
Lol. Oh, to have attended a witches and wizards school would have been amazing. Thanks for watching! xo
Oh wow I love this idea I’m going to try it with some of those circles I got in your kits🛑🔵
Oh good! Have fun!! xo

Love the look of hexies this way! Kind of like a folded yo-yo?!? Can’t wait to try it...probably harder than you make it look! TFS
I just love making them. Like anything, you have to make a few before you get it just right. I hope it works for you! TFW xo

So happy this is of use to you! I just love making them like this. Thanks for watching and commenting. xo
Great tutorial! Thanks for sharing! Could you share what size circle for the one your making?
You're welcome, I'm glad you liked it. I'm pretty sure it's a 3 inch circle. It's been awhile since I made the video, so I don't know for sure which one I used (I have hundreds of circles in various sizes sitting around at all time because of the kits that I sell, so I just grabbed one) but judging by the grid on the mat, I'd say it's 3 inches. Thanks for watching! xo
So what size circle did you start with and what size hexie were you left with please
I'm sorry, I didn't measure it. I was just making some up for a project and just turned on the camera to show the technique. But if I had to guess, judging by the ruled mat that it's laying on it looks like maybe a 3.5 inch circle, possibly a 4 inch, and the hexie ended up somewhere around 1.5 inches. Sorry I can't be more specific. Thank you for watching.
