    I like this idea very much. I would however use Elmer’s school glue and dry iron the edge in half then do the same for the second fold. So much easier to handle. Great way to do hexies and you don’t have to cut out the template . Thanks

    Would the 2.5" half hexie template be helpful for the edge of the quilt? I love this!!! My mind is going so fast with ideas. Thank you! ❤️❤️❤️

    • @70acres
      @70acres  10 місяців тому +1

      I'm with you, Bonnie. I've already designed 3 more quilts using this technique. I'm not sure I understand your question, the edge of your quilt is finished already. Unless you don't want the ziggy edge. You could use the template to draw half hexies, just mark the centers of the templates with a sharpie and then line those center lines up with the edge of your fabric.. Or, you could cut full hexies with the templates and then cut them in half and get 2 . Remember, there is no seam allowance with QAYG.
      Thanks for watching!

      @@70acres Thank you for the answer! I am always “extra”. I saw the half hexie template when looking at the hexie template. My brain 🧠 immediately thought I might need it to finish the edge. I like your idea better! 😂 Blessings!! ❤️

    I have the hex n more ruler. I wonder if I could use the 2 sizes which I think is 2.5 and 6.5 to make my own templates for the inner and outer?? Heck I’ll use your template lol😅

    • @70acres
      @70acres  10 місяців тому

      Thanks for watching, Lisa! When you place the batting and top fabric on the center of the larger piece, there should be 3/4" exposed on all sides of the big piece. This gives you enough fabric to make a binding that wraps around the batting and top fabric. Too much fabric may give you too much bulk to fold over.

  • @bonniekauffman2828
    @bonniekauffman2828 10 місяців тому +1

    Looking at the finished hexies, the edges of the bottom piece are brought up and over the inner batting and hexie. The edges are not turned under or finished. Do these unfinished edges fray over time when the quilt is used and washed?

    • @70acres
      @70acres  10 місяців тому

      Hi Bonnie, thanks for watching. The backing is 3/4" larger than the front. You fold the edge of the backing up to the edge of the front, and then fold it again over the edge of the front. It creates a border/binding all the way around the piece so it is a finished mini quilt. You then zigzag all the mini quilts together to make your larger quilt.

    • @bonniekauffman2828
      @bonniekauffman2828 10 місяців тому +1

      @@70acres Thank you! I missed that. I wasn’t seeing you doing the double fold on the edge to finish it. At 72 years old, I have just developed a passion for quilting, and I don’t think the Lord is going to leave me on earth long enough to finish all the quilts I want to do.
