'Well I wonder' is one of the greatest and most beautiful songs ever recorded on the surface of the Earth ...and probably if we count other planets too.
@@lesasorensenjoseph191 Check out The Smiths' live album Rank - they make the debt overt by playing (Marie's the Name) His Latest Flame as a medley with Rusholme Ruffians, sounds amazing!
I completely agree. So many people are for a Smiths reunion. I personally think it would be disastrous. It could ruin a beautiful memory that was The Smiths.
I love this Amazing how well Morrissey's voice has stood the test of time when you think of so many other singers of his era. I think it might even be better now than it was in the 80s.
Don't know why people are speaking bad of Joyce's drumming, listen to the peel and Jensen sessions on hatful and tell me his drumming is bad. On handsome devil (live session) and what difference it's so powerful and tight
Probably best that there isn't a reunion. The chemistry is gone...and that is the ingredient to what separates good bands from GREAT bands. The Housemartins=good. The Smiths =GREAT.
Lol..I love the word, myself ..But I got it from frankly Mr. Shankly on an early demo that he changed up some lyrics and says"frankly mr. shankly I'm a tremulous wreck.."
Rourke was a very tight player, i wonder who wrote these incredible basslines? Rourke or Marr? I don't think there are many bands where the bass and guitar player compliment eachothers parts so well as Marr and Rourke
I think you are probably right. Suparmi.i have seen some really rougher versions of this so to see this one is a much better version.i don't know if it could get it any better,I would honestly love to see it clearer but this is the best I've seen up to now.
Once again, Rourke wrote his own bass lines. If you read some of the old interviews with Marr it's quite clear that Marr input only what any guitarist would do when the bassist presents an initial idea for a line. IE Rourke would be working on a bass part and Marr might suggest what he would like to hear from it. What is less known is that Rourke and Marr played together long before the formation of the Smiths, so they were very aware of each others playing.
marr did write all the music, but morrisey was the lyricist..it was 50/50 morrissey /marr..thats why rourke and jones only got 12.5% of smiths profs (and why theyre still in court over it)
Not true. Andy and Mike never disputed the publishing (songwriting) percentages. It was the mechanical royalties (as in the royalties for playing on the recordings) and the live fees etc. In other words, Johnny and Moz got 50% each for the most lucrative aspect of the band's revenue (the publishing) AND Johnny and Morrissey also got 40% each of all other revenue, such as gigging revenue and recording royalties. Andy and Mike got just 10% each for all the gigs they played over the course of the band's lifespan, and received only 10% each for the royalties payable for all the band's recordings they played on.
@markmozmarr Heavy accent on the "IF". Lots of dispute and discussion over Ringo too. I will say I think Joyce's peak moment was "The Queen Is Dead". THAT is a great drum part. Shame that now on top of trying to get over the Morrissey/Marr hurdle to a reunion now we have a Morrissey/Joyce one too. I hate to think we'll never see it but I think this IS one we will never see.
Marr wrote pretty much all the music of The Smiths (Morrissey did 'wrote' the vocal melodies over the music). But if someone else writes music for you, you're always gonna put your own touch on it. So I think it's 70/30 (Marr/Rourke) or so. Might be wrong of course.
If there WAS a weak member of the band it would be Mike Joyce. He was great but he didn't do anything that was unique. I don't think there is any dispute of Morrissey's talent lyrically, Andy Rourke's supreme bass talent and all you need to hear from Johnny Marr is the guitar to "This Charming Man" to know he was genius.
Rusholme Ruffians and Well I Wonder are so underrated.
+Cameron Love Well I Wonder is my favorite by them. RR is #4 for me. Two fantastic tracks.
Yeah! Only accurate ears can realize the greatness of these tracks.

'Well I wonder' is one of the greatest and most beautiful songs ever recorded on the surface of the Earth ...and probably if we count other planets too.
That bass line….Damn….And covering “Marie’s the name of his latest flame”??? What an iconic band….
I've always said the bassline was taken from His Latest Flame!!!
@@lesasorensenjoseph191 Check out The Smiths' live album Rank - they make the debt overt by playing (Marie's the Name) His Latest Flame as a medley with Rusholme Ruffians, sounds amazing!
The late, great Andy Rourke's bass playing makes this song one of my favourite Smith's tracks
two of the best bass lines ever
Yes...🌾🌾🌾
I completely agree. So many people are for a Smiths reunion. I personally think it would be disastrous. It could ruin a beautiful memory that was The Smiths.
The transition into 'This Charming Man' makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up.
That bass line on this charming man tho
Again, the late, great Andy Rourke doing what he did with such consummate skill and ease
I love this Amazing how well Morrissey's voice has stood the test of time when you think of so many other singers of his era. I think it might even be better now than it was in the 80s.
It is& his band are astonishing 😊
Both sound just as good as in the studio...if not better.
Rourkey = BASS GENIUS!!!
the bass line is fantastic
Morrisseys dancing makes me happy
Thats awesome transition into this charming man. Love it.
captainpiepants Shut the fuck up
The bass sounds great in this
1of my fav tracks from this superb album 👍 ‘I must just walk home alone’
Bless you for posting this GEM of MORISSEY and the SMITHS. A die hard fan even if Morissey thinks I am POS for bieng his fan ; )
We're all POS. Cos we be HUMAN ;)
Nice stuff - thanks - one of da Smiths' best shows.
This transition though
this is amazing. love the transition.
my two favorites by them, followed by the headmaster ritual.
Gotta love the transition, amazing stuff.
Fantastic recording!
Superb! If you can't play live then give up. These guys were the nuts!
Don't know why people are speaking bad of Joyce's drumming, listen to the peel and Jensen sessions on hatful and tell me his drumming is bad. On handsome devil (live session) and what difference it's so powerful and tight
That transition!
Rourke. Legend.
Probably best that there isn't a reunion. The chemistry is gone...and that is the ingredient to what separates good bands from GREAT bands. The Housemartins=good. The Smiths =GREAT.
i think in more general terms of indie music the house martins are great the smiths are beyond
Morrissey can’t trust them to walk on the same side of the street without filing a lawsuit against him.
That Rhythm & Bass section 😍
theyre my fave band of all time grew up on them etc...but i really hope they dont reform,it`d spoil a beautiful thing i reckon
The rank version is my favourite. Listen carefully to Andy’s bass, the little extra notes he puts in
To you , I bow
What a gem
excellent
I learnt the word tremulous from this song : )
Lol..I love the word, myself ..But I got it from frankly Mr. Shankly on an early demo that he changed up some lyrics and says"frankly mr. shankly I'm a tremulous wreck.."
Que buen video, 2 grandes canciones en la voz de Morrisey!!!
Whilst I would pay to see it I hope a reunion never happens .
It wouldn't be the same
Why pamper life's complexity

can't stop watching this...how'd Johnny Marr do it?...
Yeah agreed I love Rank's version with his latest flame, I think I got a few other versions of it on bootleg.
thank god.
Rusholme bass line is so good

it would be perfect if it wasn't for its poor quality. It's great anyway. Thank you SUPARNI
You have a good heart
interesting pairing, hadn't seen this before. thanks for sharing. however, the video gives me fits.
The best band ever !
i told mike joyce that this is relavant and i love his drumming and he said that that wasnt relaavant at all i was so happy lol
I couldn't agree more.

fucking awesome. great job upping it dude.

Quite possibly the worst live video of The Smiths i have ever seen , but STILL an absolute pleasure to watch :-)

New song? new lyrics to Marie's the name..of his latest flame. The smiths crush Elvis.

Andy's awesome as well.
The last night of the fair
By the big wheel generator
A boy is stabbed
And his money is grabbed
And the air hangs heavy like a dulling wine
She is famous
She is funny
An engagement ring
Doesn't mean a thing
To a mind consumed by brass (money)
And though I walk home alone
I might walk home alone...
...But my faith in love is still devout
The last night of the fair
From a seat on a whirling waltzer
Her skirt ascends for a watching eye
It's a hideous trait (on her mother's side)

long live both U2 and the Smiths in the 80's..
Rourky FTW
this must be about 84
Andy my darling ur a fucking bass genius.

i love sicking duck
U2 are cack. Both bands should never be uttered in the same sentence.
thats whati meant..i have one of those new bendy keyboard thingys...whoops
Rourke and "Joyce" perhaps? Yeah, among the many reasons why The Smiths will never reunite (legal issues). We can still dream though.
man why you gotta criticize ringo hes alright
ahhh moz ;]
@kusraback
Totally true.
@mozzfan714 It's all relative.

I wasted the 80s , U2 were bland when I see this. I didn't know.
No they are not, common mistake right there. I just have pie in my pants.

hideous trait on her mothers side .wow
It's directly copied from Elvis...listen to Rank.
