Did you turn your Variety Pak box into your cereal bowl? There was a line down the center and you could open the box like shutters on a window, pour in your milk and sprinkle on your sugar and eat directly from the box. It was not all that easy to open the box this way so mom would usually help by cutting along the dotted lines with a knife. I think a good cherry pie is made with tart cherries like Queen Anne cherries not the sweet cherries. The tart cherries are much more flavorful.
@@thebritstry It has been years since I bought a Variety Pak so I don't know it they still have the perforations. I just checked on the internet and they said Kellogg's no longer perforates the boxes. Too bad, that was fun as a kid.

We went to the Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village when I was little, with my Girl Scouts. That was a loooong time ago and they’ve certainly added to it, but I definitely remember the trains, and many other things. We stayed somewhere nearby and it definitely took us two days all those years ago. I grew up in a suburb of Detroit and when my dad retired my parents moved up to Traverse City, where they grow amazing tart cherries. Blueberries grow well in Michigan too, so you both made great choices!
Oh my gosh! I have that exact same cabinet shown in the first kitchen in my kitchen right now. It's called a Hoosier cabine. Mine still has the flour sifter, which has been removed on many.
Cherry pie is my favorite of all the fruit pies, I like the tartness of the cherries. You have my vote for the RV biscuits and gravy tour with a possible meet and greet!
Thanks for watching. It's amazing how trying something new can lead to surprising favorites! Keeping an open mind really does open up a world of possibilities.
If you ever stop by again, try the Eagle Tavern in Greenfield Village ... the menu is basically early 19th century. It changes with the seasons to reflect what would have been available at that time of the year before canning and refrigeration. They also alter menus every year to keep variety alive.
You're absolutely right! Location can definitely influence prices, and the historic nature of the the place contributes too! and it's interesting to see how much it varies from place to place.

The Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village in Dearborn, Michigan, is definitely worth a visit. Doing just one the museum or the village is more than a day trip, I think. The focus of both is historical Americana.

in diner parlance, pie with vanilla ice cream is called pie _à la mode_ and the ice cream is served on top of the pie and they meld together as you eat them. I've never in my life seen the ice cream served in a separate dish, and I've eaten in a lot of diners in my day! I went to the Ford Museum in the '70s - looks like I should revisit it, it's so much larger now!
Michigan's cherry crop is a varietal known for its sourness. Michigan cherries are never eaten out of hand; with the addition of much sugar, they are suitable for pies, tarts, turnovers and preserves.
There's not much better than diner pie! Moms or grandmas but that's about it. A good diner will run out of pie for sure! Great video, thank you for showing more than just southern food. You guys are hilarious and I laughed so, so hard at the tart slapping you in the face.😂😂😂😂😂😂
You're absolutely right! Diner pie is simple yet delicious, and there's nothing quite like it. Thanks for watching and enjoying our take on food! We have been very nervous about this video because it is very different to our usual videos
After WWII, aspiring businessmen could order a a full diner, which was delivered then assembled. They all had that cool, art deco look. Valentine Diner was one of the companies, and those who operated those diners put a percentage of each day's takings into a small lock box next to the front door. Periodically, Valentine would send around a guy with a key to collect the proceeds as payment towards the diner.
Two years ago, my crew got permission to work on at the oxbow. When we were finishing up, two museum employees drove up. I don't know if they were driving by or if they were checking up on us. We asked about the car. They told us that in order to be a historic museum, they were required to drive a Model T.
This museum is near Detroit. It is actually in the city of Dearborn. In the year 1997, a high school was established in the museum. It is a charter school. My daughter put her name in a lottery and she was chosen to be a student there. She spent ninth grade in classrooms in the museum. The next three grades were set up in buildings adjacent to the museum; Greenfield Village. She was in the first graduating class of 2001. The two learning centers, the museum and the village are great places to visit.
Wow, that's an incredible journey! It's amazing to see how the museum has played such a significant role in education for your daughter. Thanks for sharing!
The museum "lost" a wee bit of the displays when the glass walled classrooms were added. Personally, I felt the classrooms being inside the museum/viewed by all patrons was an (oil & vinegar) mix, for both student and patron.
There are some diners in New York and New England that were converted freight train cabooses that were parked in old sidings off train lines. I have family that owned and operated one for decades before the advent of modern fast food places. Simpler times.

My recommendation: A fruit stand called Robert is Here in Homestead, Florida. You need to have their mango milkshake and spicy boiled peanuts. Divine. Also, the Everglades National Park is right down the street, so you can visit 'gators and beautiful birds if you'd like.
When struggling to describe the blueberries, I feel what you wanted to say was "the blueberries still have a pop to them when you bite through them" which would mean they haven't been mushed to all hell so there's still whole blueberries throughout the pie. Looks delicious!
Get an RV. I have a travel Trailer and it is a great way to see the country (not exactly cheap) at a slow leisurely pace. But a RV can be a lot of work but they can be more comfortable than hotels. When you fly around you miss a lot of the country side. Plan ahead since at time getting in campgrounds can be a challenge. Plus, when you driving and you see a restaurant along the side of the road and it has lots of cars around it, usually a great place to stop. But a lot of people do not realize the US is quite large and distances on a map can be deceiving when driving
Thank you for sharing your thoughts! This would be a dream trip for us!!! It’s great to hear how much you enjoy your travel trailer. Your insights on planning and discovering hidden gems along the way are super helpful for anyone considering this adventure!
I love a tart cherry pie. I'm glad you both enjoyed them. Tart cherries are typically Montmorency and I think Michigan and NE Wisconsin produce the most Montmorency cherries in the US. @@thebritstry Oh yeah it's easily 2-3 days. When doing Green Field Village we would take he train to the back and walk towards the entrance. There is soooo much to do there. We used to put pennys on the train tracks and watch them get flattened. 😂
You two make me laugh on a regular basis. Such great content.
Thank you so much for your kind words! Your support means the world to us and keeps us motivated to create even more content!
They need lots of people around them to have a life
For as much as I LOVE the Smithsonian Museums, The Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village are truly one of a kind. You truly could spend 4 days there taking in all the exhibits & events. A Crown Jewel of Michigan!
With blueberry pie you got to put vanilla ice cream on top of pie
Thanks for sharing your thoughts! completely agree-vanilla ice cream is the perfect finishing touch for blueberry pie!
@@thebritstry when you go to Maine after lobster dinner its blueberry pie with vanilla ice cream on top. That’s the rule. Lol
No, we didn't know that! We feel like we missed out.. Might have to buy a pack to try that now! Thanks for watching
@@thebritstry It has been years since I bought a Variety Pak so I don't know it they still have the perforations. I just checked on the internet and they said Kellogg's no longer perforates the boxes. Too bad, that was fun as a kid.
I’m from Saginaw Mi about 90 miles north of the greater Detroit area and I love visiting Detroit and the surrounding suburbs, might have its issues but still a great American city that deserves to be checked out for sure! What up tho?!!!..
We loved our visit to Detroit! It really has a lot to offer, and it's great that you enjoy visiting. What’s your favorite spot in the city?
Greenfield village also has multiple events throughout the year - and the displays change around also. You'll have to come back in the fall for pumpkin pie, apple pies, apple cake, pot pies, pasty - Michigan always has great food.
thats a cool museum....I have a Ford Mustang....that's a cute little diner....we had one that looked more like a train car but now we only have a Penny's Diner so its more 50's retro....Michigan is known for its cherries....I think they even have a festival....I love cherry pie
That sounds awesome! A Mustang and diners? You’re living the dream! And yeah, cherry pie is a must it was delicious
@@thebritstry a dream would be a classic Mustang....did you get a chance to go to Mackinac Island to try their famous fudge as well?
We went to the Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village when I was little, with my Girl Scouts. That was a loooong time ago and they’ve certainly added to it, but I definitely remember the trains, and many other things. We stayed somewhere nearby and it definitely took us two days all those years ago. I grew up in a suburb of Detroit and when my dad retired my parents moved up to Traverse City, where they grow amazing tart cherries. Blueberries grow well in Michigan too, so you both made great choices!
Coffee and pie from whatever berries are in season. Very fond memories of my mom and grandma.. fresh pies and ice-cream all summer and fall
Oh my gosh! I have that exact same cabinet shown in the first kitchen in my kitchen right now.
It's called a Hoosier cabine. Mine still has the flour sifter, which has been removed on many.
The RV biscuits n gravy across America tour 2024 gets my vote lol
Thanks for your support! The RV biscuits n gravy tour would to be an adventure of a lifetime! Thanks for watching
Sounds absolutely horrible. I would rather do seafood and steaks across America😊
Cherry pie is my favorite of all the fruit pies, I like the tartness of the cherries.
You have my vote for the RV biscuits and gravy tour with a possible meet and greet!
Same here ❤❤❤❤
So happy you guys came to Henry Ford! We are very proud of our gem! Please come back to Michigan soon. Safe travels 💙💙💙🙏🙏🙏
I love how Andrew said he would never order a cherry pie and it ended up being his favorite of the two. A lesson in keeping an open mind!
I wished I knew you were in Detroit, would of steered you towards Barb's Pasties in Clawson, Michigan.
Thanks for the recommendation! Barb's Pasties sounds delicious, and We'll definitely keep it in mind for our next trip to Detroit!
Cherries from Michigan are the best
Thanks for sharing your love for Michigan cherries! The cherry pie was delicious
Compared to the local area, that restaurant is probably got a 10 or 15% hike just because of its location.
You're absolutely right! Location can definitely influence prices, and the historic nature of the the place contributes too! and it's interesting to see how much it varies from place to place.
FYI… I’d LOVE to watch y’all travel the USA in an RV so I can vicariously live through y’all. That’s my bucket list item. You will be able to hit some country road mom and pop cafe’s. Those are the best. Hope y’all do it!
Nom. I love a nice tart cherry pie. Cobblers are a weakness in general too.
The Tart cherry pie was delicious! It really hit the spot. We are craving some more now.
Welcome to Michigan! Cherries and Blueberries are a big deal in Mi, kind of known for them. Greenfield Village is a must see, an absolute must. But then, so is all of it :)
Thanks for the warm welcome! Michigan really does have so much to offer we had a great time.
You guys are so fun thanks for taking me there. I’ve never been there looked very, very, very cool Florida.😊
Thank you so much for your kind words! It means a lot to us that you enjoyed the adventure. We loved sharing it with you!
If you liked that blueberry pie, then I know for a fact that you will lose your minds over Saskatoon Berry pie
wildberry pie has become my new favorite.. its a combo of blueberries, cherries, strawberries, some will have rasberries in it... then a homemade blueberry apple pie combo... oh my so good.
Thank you for sharing your excitement about wildberry pie! we really need to try that in the future.
Heyy Family!! The pie looks AMAZING!! Enjoy Detroit!! Waiting for you guys to try authentic Maryland Crabcakes!!! In the mean time enjoy, smh now I want pie!! My favorite is sweet potato!!
Thanks for watching! We’re definitely enjoying the pie and can’t wait to get to Maryland to try those crabcakes in the future! Sweet potato pie sounds interesting, we will definitely have to find that in the future.
Love to see people visiting my home state, hope you're enjoying your stay. cheers
My one set of grandparents lived in Michigan and one of my fondest memories was picking blueberries eating as much as I picked.
Michigan is known for its cherries.
I have 2 tart cherry trees, and a blueberry farm 1 mile from me here in northern Indiana. My son also has a row of blueberry bushes. Two of my favorites, so make pies and cobblers year round. Life is good!
It was a delight to know you both were in my State. I come from the west side of the state , where we have the Gerald R. Ford museum ( No relation, a President) in Grand Rapids, also known as the furniture city of United States, and the 2nd largest city in the Peninsula state of Michigan.
Wow, thanks for the tour of the museum! That was great!
Glad you enjoyed it We had a great time and we would definitely recommend it! Thanks for watching
@@thebritstry My pleasure! When are you moving to the U.S.? 😃
I grew up in the U.P. of Michigan too where Blueberries were everywhere. As a kid I would stop randomly in the woods and pick a handful for a snack all the time during the season. I did not realize how lucky I was.
It's amazing how those little moments in nature can shape our childhood memories! Thanks for sharing!
This was so fun and informative. Thank you for sharing it with us!
You are so welcome! We have been very nervous about it because it is very different to our usual videos
@thebritstry it was lovely to see you both enjoying the sites as well as the food. I don't get to really travel so when people visit fun places I love to learn about them . Traveling vicariously through UA-cam! You're vivacious and fun spirits just make things better! Much 💚! 🥰
My grandmother worked at a carburetor factory in Saint Louis, Missouri. She worked in quality control and she used to speak with Henry Ford on the telephone. He wasn't very well liked at the factory, with all of his odd demands.
Oh I definitely see an RV road trip in your future!! Love this video because it was less about the food and more about the attractions. Don't get me wrong...I love to see you eat the food but showing up attractions that most of us are clueless about is fabulous!
We are so glad you enjoyed the video! We have been very nervous about it because it is very different to our usual videos. It’s always fun to explore attractions and share hidden gems with everyone. An RV road trip sounds like a dream adventure waiting to happen!
@@thebritstry The most wonderful thing is to discover the US in all its quirks and glories. We know what we have here but sometimes our own view is just as limited as what the rest of the world sees because we're not able to go forth and explore so we're living vicariously through everyone who has been blessed. Keep up the variety of content! I know I'll be here looking to see what you discover next.🥰
The Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village in Dearborn, Michigan, is definitely worth a visit. Doing just one the museum or the village is more than a day trip, I think. The focus of both is historical Americana.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts! I completely agree-there's so much to see and learn at both locations. Thanks for watching
I worked for Ford for many years and also purchased a Family pass to the Village. They have some amazing Seasonal activities... like a Halloween/Fall theme.... Christmas Theme, etc. They are amazing to experience, but some are very cold! lol
Your right! it's an amazing place and we only touched the surface. We would love to come back and spend more time there. Thanks you for watching
Umm, why didn't you eat the pie with the ice cream? You're supposed to have the pie scorching hot with vanilla ice cream on top. 😁😋
Try watching the New Zealand family they just spent 10 weeks in an RV in the united states. They spent most of their time in western United States and Texas and Tennessee they just started putting their videos on showing their amazing trip I believe they have something like 60 videos they are going to put on. They actually had an expert make a trailer of their trip for them and they just put on their first travel video in the RV on this past Thursday😊
in diner parlance, pie with vanilla ice cream is called pie _à la mode_ and the ice cream is served on top of the pie and they meld together as you eat them. I've never in my life seen the ice cream served in a separate dish, and I've eaten in a lot of diners in my day!
I went to the Ford Museum in the '70s - looks like I should revisit it, it's so much larger now!
Thanks for the info! The museum is amazing and we would love to have had more time there.
Michigan is famous for the Montmorency Cherry, a very tart cherry that we drink the juice of to help with joint inflammation, arthritis.
Thanks for sharing the information! We will have to look out for the cherry juice in the future
Michigan's cherry crop is a varietal known for its sourness. Michigan cherries are never eaten out of hand; with the addition of much sugar, they are suitable for pies, tarts, turnovers and preserves.
Thank you for sharing that insight! Thanks for watching
So sad we didn't get to see them try with the ice cream. It adds an entire new dimension to each.
Wow, you guys get around!!! You've already seen way more of my country than I have! That museum looks so cool and I've never been to Michigan.
😂Thanks for watching! The museum is definitely worth a trip if you are ever in the area.
Thank you for sharing your story! That would have been an amazing experience.
Michigan cherry tends to be more tart. A Michigan-based soda company, Towne Club, has a Michigan Cherry flavor that quite nice.
There are some diners in New York and New England that were converted freight train cabooses that were parked in old sidings off train lines. I have family that owned and operated one for decades before the advent of modern fast food places. Simpler times.
That’s cool! Those caboose diners must’ve have been amazing. Thanks for sharing the information
What fun. I was a member there for years
It was a great experience! we loved it. Just wish we had more time to explore. Thanks for watching
I Grew up just north of Detroit on a farm with some Cherry trees,🌳 my Mom would make cherries 🍒 and dumplings, it was delicious so tart😮, so sweet 😅 Yum! Greenfield Village and Henry Ford Museum 💙 it's a wonderful place,😊 now I live in The Gaslamp Quarter downtown San Diego hope to see you around. Peace✌️ and Love❤️ to my favorite food reactors 😋 Gary 😊 Michigan well worth checking out, it's the Water, Winter, Wonderland!
That is awesome! Thanks for watching if you see us come and say hi!
Texas state fair opens in September. You guys gotta come. But you still gotta go to Gen Korean all you can eat BBQ on another night. Missing out
Absolutely! The State Fair is high on our want to do list! Hopefully we can get there.. We also want to try The Korean BBQ Thanks for sharing
The Ford is absolutely amazing
We completely agree! The Ford museum has some incredible exhibits that really stand out. Thanks for watching
Thank you for your thoughtful comment! we really appreciate your feedback. Thanks for watching
You ordered ice cream to go with your pie but then you never ate the ice cream with your pie. 🤔
Thank you for spending some time in metro Detroit! ❤ Southeast Michigan is a great place to visit (and live). 😊
Absolutely! Southeast Michigan has so much to offer, and we are glad we could explore it. Thanks for watching
Your insights on planning and discovering hidden gems along the way are super helpful for anyone considering this adventure!
they had ice blocks delivered in those days .
Thanks for sharing that! It's amazing to think and see how things have evolved over time.
I love a tart cherry pie. I'm glad you both enjoyed them. Tart cherries are typically Montmorency and I think Michigan and NE Wisconsin produce the most Montmorency cherries in the US. I can't comment on the quality of cherries or pie from W Michigan, but I grew up eating cherry pie on my visits Northeastern Wisconsin (Door County) and those pies are why I love them so.
Two the best pies right there for sure!
