Fun fact: when turning this video on I was floored by speed and ferocity od performance, thinking to myself okay now, they are making a comeback here, and certainly feeling like having something to prove to their audience as well as themselves but still, how on Earth do they keep this kind of tempo.. only to realize oh, xd xd I was previously having some commentary guy which talks very slow and have left 1.25 speed on!
Micki's bass playing and voice are understated. I love them all but Michael's base, voice, composition are so integral to the band. Without her, and I have watched the videos over and over and amazed with her instrumentals. Seems we all focus on lead, but the bass playing by her equals the rest of the other's skills.
I don't think they're influential enough to be inducted. As we've seen there is a huge bias against women in the rock hall anyway. The Go-Go's got in but they were the first all female back to have major commercial success. Ann and Nancy Wilson got in but they were the first females to lead a band in the hard rock / metal category. Then there are a few others like Stevie Nicks and Chrissie Hynde, but all of them were either the first at something or have been repeatedly cited as an influence. The Bangles weren't the first nor are the widely cited as influences so I just don't see it happening.
And I don't say that to diss them -- I think they're great. But other bands I like such as Styx and Boston aren't in either and I think they have a claim to it before the Bangles.

Michael is one of the few bassists that switches from finger style to picking depending on the sound she wants for the song. She mostly uses her fingers but for Stealing Rosemary she’s using a pick. Most bassists use only one technique exclusively. Michael knows!
The thing is that Michael is one in everything, her style, her elegance and her way of playing the bass, in short, she is the only one, my favorite of the bangles group Michael 😊
I have memories of being at the Arcade at the mall when I was a teen and the Bangles were always up on the video screens...they ruled the 80s female groups
Debbi has a great voice! The song Be With You is a great example. Saw her touring with Mathew Sweet in the Spring. Got some photos and an autograph. Ole fan boy sigh….
i was in Menards yesterday and they played Walk Like An Egyptian. Brought back alot of memories. Had to watch some of their live videos, never seen them before live. What a bunch of beautiful women. Hope they're all doing well!!
Hopping is just Susanna. But she really appears genuinely very happy in this concert. I think she is extremely happy back together again to celebrate the wonderful times they had before and now.
I never knew how good they actually are. I liked Manic Monday ok when it came out and I thought their Hazy Shade of Winter cover was good but they are actually better live than their recordings imho. Beautiful harmonies and tight arrangements. This is my 1st time watching them play live and I'm very impressed. Thanks for the upload.
Yes, I think I can safely say that the general consensus among fans is that The Bangles were an extremely talented group whose members all wrote original songs, sang beautiful harmonies, and played best live as a garage band/rock group. As good as their records were, they were subject to a lot of the pop/synth overproduction that was common in the 1980s. I personally believe some of their best work was on Doll Revolution (2003) which they wrote, recorded, and produced themselves.
@@Nyssa337 Doll Revolution is indeed a wonderful album, and filled with many beautiful original songs. I think it helped that the band recruited Brad Wood, who originally helped capture the raw sound of Veruca Salt, to help with producing that album. Thanks for these uploads, showing what a great live act The Bangles are!
I am crazily in love with the Bangles.. but so much more with Mickie Steele and guess what her bass playing is so synced with Debbie's drumming...beautiful presentation 👏 👌 👍
Susanna on "If She Knew" though ... such a perfect gem of a Jules Shear song but I've seen her do this song several times ... luminous and Vicky with some tasteful licks
Holy cow, why am I just now finding this concert on UA-cam? And in HD no less! Four months after this concert, January 25, 2001, I was in the second row of their concert in Houston. It was a theater in the round with a rotating stage. I even got some pics using an early consumer grade digital camera. I just checked to see if the outfits they wore were the same - nope. As the girls rotated around, it was amazing to make eye contact with Vicki, Susanna, and my favorite, Michael. Debbi was too far back. Thanks so much for posting this!!!!
Thanks for sharing this wonderful concert, will buy the dvd (if still available) to support the Bangles. I’m encouraged by the Rock & Roll Hall of fame’s recent emphasis on inducting more female artists. With The Go-Gos going in this year I’m hoping the Bangles will be next year/soon. They more than deserve it.
I remember when I first heard them in the spring of 86, so refreshing were their Voices. And Susanna, sounded like what I figured an Angel would sound like. I didn't see a Video of them for several Months, when I did, it was WOW!!!
I've seen countless bands, including the Bangles live back in the day. What a great band! Kudos to Vicki on lead guitar on that Gretsch guitar, and that cranking Les Paul...and Susannah with that Rickenbacker... Girls with guitars.... I am in love with the Bangles...Hard to believe that's 25 years ago! Ain't it funny how time just slips away, s the prophet Willie Nelson says, but rock and roll never forgets! If the Bangles were going to Liverpool back in 1965, they'd be like the female version of the Beatles, or am I just imagining this?
This is the best recording of this concert and thanks for uploading. Susanna Hoffs has such a soft, beautiful voice, same for the band too really and they are all ageless. Their selections of material to cover show their own strong 60s sensibilities and appreciation of music. Same for their instruments ( Rickenbacker guitars) and clothes to match. Reasons all they are one of my favorite bands. Songs from Simon & Garfunkel, Big Star, Kim Rew , The Seeds, the Grass Roots,Byrds etc they really make all their own. Their versions of " You were on my mind" and "Where were you when I needed you ' far eclipse the originals.
I will always be in love with Susanna Hoffs. She's the love of my life. She's beautiful and talented with the voice of an angel. God bless you always my sweet love!
What a great reunion and amazingly they all look gorgeous still even in their 40's. Their songs oh my...still giving me the goosebumps! You know Mekel Rogers, without you and UA-cam, I would probably forget about them as I'm always busying myself with life and now seeing it here and listening to them again it brought me down to the ground that makes me realized what I had lost, I'm going to head over to the music store to see if I could get back all of their albums that I had lost and reunite myself with the spice that they had given me. Thanx Mekel Rogers, Bangles for life, from Singapore with Love!
It's great to see the ladies had a chance to reunite and realize how good they are without all the fame BS and music industry sniffling over publishing rights. They are a great band, the Bangles are a more talented group then the GO' GO'S for sure! They definitely had more top 10 hits. Michael’s “Between the Two” is an amazingly written song with great bass lines. Just listen to it!
Michael's songs are something else.
They are only in their early 40s here, how time has passed so quickly.
Susanne Hoff ... her voice, her smile, her boots.. what a beautiful woman OMG
When I first saw Susannah Hoffs I thought she's just a pretty face, then noticed she has a lovely voice and she can play.
God, guts, glory, and girls with guitars! Women, I know. But what a band!
Between The Two is out of this world. Holy christ.

These women and the Bangles as a group all need to be in the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame.
There are MANY groups that should be there before them and YES, I AM A BIG FAN of the group. cheers
