- Get Ready Normies, Non-Car Guys, and Car Enthusiasts alike! This video is for y'all! I'll be defining a whole bunch of terms in this video because that's what Dictionaries are supposed to do, y'know, nothing out of the ordinary there. These terms will range from various slang and jargon used in the car community and I'll explain what they mean. From memes like blinker fluid, to overused terms like Ricer, incorrectly used terms like V4, and even taboo terms like Replica cars. Even UA-cam just underlined V4 just now, which means even it doesn't think that deserves to be a word, much less, an engine in your car.

The riceburner slang was the original definition and spawned from automotive xenophobia in America against the newer Japanese and Korean imports from the 70s-90s. It was subsequently shortened to "ricer" to refer to someone who drove something definitively eastern Asian. The acronym was applied to it later, and thankfully so, as people started to use the racially charged definition less

Id pay good money for a car that could run on hydrocarbons made feom rice. Ive never understood people and their need to say riceburner. What, so i can quickly reel in my passion and try to regain my reputation? Digressing, ive always found people who used words like riceburner to of lesser intelligence, and typically resort to using easier words for those types to no confuse them.

Muscle Cars were often Designed *purely* for the Strip, after all the 1968 Dodge Hurst Dart (with "The Elephant" (the 426 Hemi, in that Cars case fitted up with "Dual Quad" Carburetion and the NASCAR Spec Valve Gear allowing a near 7,000RPM Redline) Squeezed into the Nose) actually came with a Sticker on the Dash saying that it was to be used *only* for Drag Racing as it wasn't, Technically, Road Legal...
The whole Point of a Muscle Car was the Quarter Mile, hence the Short Ratio Gearing (its why most of the 60s ones topped out at just over 120) light Weight (compared to the big ol' Barges they were often based on that is, they often still weighed nearly 2 Tons! 9 bolt Axles, Strengthened Chassis Rails and Massive, Performance Carb Fitted, V8 Engines for Prodigious Torque (which aids In Gear Acceleration and Take off!) and why a "Proper" Muscle Car needed to have a Manual Box (Manual gave the best Launch in those Pre "Launch Control Software" Days) , all in the Name of doing the Quarter Mile in Less than 10.
Heck, the '64 Pontiac Tempest GTO sold purely on the Basis that it Blew the Doors off a Ferrari 250GTO on the 'Strip in a "Car and Driver" Test! Of Course, on the Winding Roads of Europe, the Big Wallowing, Boat Like "Goat" wouldn't see which Way "the Drakes" Finest actually Went! but in America, where the Quarter Mile was all that Mattered, the Pontiac was King!
A Proper Tuner will naturally be better on Performance, as a lot of the Hardware under the Bonnet is Straight out of JGTC or F1! you have a Light Car, often from Japan or Europe, designed for use on *very* Twisty Mountain Roads, hooked up with Engine, Driveline and Chassis Modification Technology taken Right from Top End Motorsports, and its inevitable even the best Supercars are not going to see which way the "tuner" Went on the Open Road!
Of course by "proper" Tuner I of course refer to Machines such as the Blackbird, (a Kremer Chassis Fitted and Bodied Porsche 930 Turbo fitted with a full Le Mans Spec Engine and Two Turbochargers that were taken *Directly* From a pair of Ex Ayrton Senna McLaren MP4/4 Engines!) the *iconic* Esprit FD3, the Vielside Missile JZA-80 , the HKS 900HP Evo 9 Time Attack, Gobstopper II, etc. Cars built for Dominance in Time Attack (HKS), Hill Climb (Gobstopper) or mid 90s Japanese Underground Street Racing (the 3 "Mid Night Club" Icons I Listed). Anything else is "Rice" in the correct use of the Term, a Cheap and Nasty Rip off of the Tuner Style built by someone with no idea as to How to build an actual "Tuner" Car and has either been playing too much NFFS Underpants or watching too Much "The Fast and the Furious" for their own Good!

Depends what you want to start with. I recommend jdm (Japanese domestic market)
Don't listen to these fools. Start by looking at your car [or your father's if you don't own one, or your (realistic, something you could buy, not a Ferrari Roma) dream car if you don't have any cars in the family]. My father owns a Mk5 Golf so I started from there. When I got my license, I wanted to become a good driver so I started looking at our car, tried to study it so I can drive it better. I studied its specs, pros and cons, what kind of engine/transmission etc it has, reviews on the internet and as much information about it as I could find. Then I started looking at its variations (GTI, R etc), other VW models, its competition, how it compares to other categories (an R vs an M3 for example) and a lot of other stuff. Don't start with something completely strange and irrelevant to you (Japanese Tuning or Muscle Cars if you own a FIAT Panda).

are terms that I could quickly come up with that are decent for everyone to know
Lmao. I riced a NIssan Skyline thing on Forza Horizon 3 and I said "Look at my riced-up car, dad!" He then told me it was a racist terminology and I tried to convince him that it was an acronym.
JRP the term originally came from Americans, they used it to describe Asian imports in the 80-90s, it was racist as the main theme of the term focused on the fact that they used a lot of rice. Ricer is a shortened version of rice burner. And like I said before was a slang racist term to describe Asian imports in America

I'm perfectly okay with that too. In fact, I'm planning on buying a 2-door '98 Impreza 2.5 RS and make it into a 22b STi.
Nothing wrong with modding the car to look better as long as you don't try to rebadge the car to the looks. Be up front about it... For example getting a v6 mustang and putting the mach1 style panels on it. Leave the badges and if some1 asks be honest and say yeah it's a v6 mustang, I just like the look of the mach1 but the economy of the v6 was of more use to me than the performance and price of a gt or mach1 trim.

Paul Jr. Harrington while I'm no fan of Prius (hello from lifted diesel truck world) I do have to admit that inside they seem very start trek shuttle inspired. And even the older models have more full color screens and digital displays then luxury cars of the time. And the new ones are actually rather stylish in their design looking like a future view of the technology.
That being said they tend to be driven by the "I'm holier then thou crowd". And it's fun trolling them with coal.
Mr JDM 590 the Prius is a hybrid. So it is getting it's electric from it's gasoline engine. However because it is a on highway engine it has the same stringent emissions requirements as any other on highway engine.

You forgot 'tribute car'. This is where a person has a base model vehicle, and adds parts made by an OEM and making that car now look and sometimes perform like an upgraded trim package. This is often done in the vintage and classic car arena, like taking a 1969 Dodge Charger and adding all of the 1969 Dodge Daytona parts to it. I have also seen this done on a few Asian imports as well.

Got this video in my recommendations. Must be from my recent enthusiasm with the need for speed series. Started playing the newer games and got a chance to work with customizing the cars but apart from increasing stats in game like any rpg and also customizing the look of my cars, I got no idea what I am doing with my cars. I am a very casual player but enjoy the thrill of racing. Heck, starting to enjoy driving my own car around during the quarantine from home to work and back. Hopefully I might start learning more about cars and start understanding what I am doing with them.

Well you see this is because it was a offspring of the heavier, larger but also usually more powerful, muscle car, and the segment was started by the mustang in 1965, and horse car sounds.. Bad, pony car sounds good, also reflecting the initial positioning as a "entry level" options to muscle cars. But now of course pony cars are all thats left (challenger borderline musclecar)
if i rememebr right, the plymouth barracuda was technically the first pony car, as it beat the mustang to market. however, the Mustang took off in popularity, hence the term pony car. Had the barracuda been more successful, it may have been known as the fish car :P

When I was young...I loved cars. My friend used to bring magazines to the school and I would watch the cars for hours. I really didn't memorize names....but a Rolls Royce was love at first sight...and then life happened. I am trying to get back to learning cars.
The term "ricer" really did start out as a derogatory label. Back in the '60s when the tiny, underpowered, cheaply made Japanese import vehicles started becoming popular in the American market, they were often called "rice burners" (of course implying they ran on rice). It was a very common term, even being used in magazines like Popular Mechanics. Over time it's been shortened to just "ricer". Where'd you get your definition?

As for Muscle and Pony cars, I just think of Pony cars as a subcategory of Muscle cars, like how thumbs are technically fingers. i.e. it is fine to call a Mustang a "Muscle car", but calling a Challenger a "Pony car" is dead wrong. Just my two cents though.
