    you have to backbutter all tiles you did it in some and failed on alot of them, baseboards should be removed and leave a 1/8 gao for expansion, the tiles should be 12/24/36 off set pattern.

    I personally love the way you laid it out! I plan to do a 25% offset back and forth pattern with my wood plank tile. I love the idea of having the tiles super close together, but since I'm not a pro I plan to use a leveling system with 1/16" spaces for ultra-thin grout lines. I think your project was beautifully done.

    Should the installers be leaving the thinset sitting on top of laid tile overnight? Our installers did that and now our wood tile planks have dried thinset all over the place. We are making them clean it busy now they’re having to sand it and I feel like that’s making the tile more dull. Should they have been cleaning the thinset off as they were laying it? Sometimes there large chunks just sitting on top of and they left it over night.

      Use 1/18. Prism grout is great. It’s true to color and it doesn’t brake. If it brakes theirs probably movement on the tiles (bad installation/ or bad preparation) not sure why they didn’t use spacers. You might feel the imperfection of the tiles since their not straight.

      Well 20 yrs ago no one used self leveling kits. If the floor was really bad we would float it. We only use leveling kits with LFT because some of the tiles come bowed. Always use a 1/2" throwel if the tile is 18" or larger. As far as backbuttering, I agree most of the time.

    So wrong joints should not line up every other tile. Must be lay 1/3 .plus you have to back butter each tile. Guaranteed not enough coverage. At lease he tape the joints. But I bet he did not thinset it down to floor. Everybody wants to be a tile man.

    • @HugoCorrea
      @HugoCorrea  6 років тому +5

      Ask This Old Tile Man please watch the “ how to prepare subfloors before tiling” back buttering Tile’s does not guarantee that you full coverage, you need a flat surface before You tile. Thank you for looking at how to install tiles

    • @markdoumert4840
      @markdoumert4840 6 років тому +5

      If you look at the joints in the video, they break at about the 1/3 mark of the tile, which is the proper way to do it to minimize lippage. Just because the joints line up every other tile instead of every third tile doesnt mean it isnt a proper third set, just a different pattern. Btw, backbuttering helps with transfer, not coverage. Proper coverage can only be achieved by putting enough mud on the floor and making sure the floor is flat, then making sure you collapse the notches. Everyone wants to be a tile man.

    If you put tile down prior to cabinets and you have a water damage your asking for trouble. If the floor has to be removed due to severe water damage / CAT 3 / sewage your cabinets will also have to come out in order to get to the floor. Very hard to dry floors under cabinets. Obviously cat 3 you wouldn’t but if it’s a clean water loss you would attempt (ETES and tenting).

You guys arent even pressing them in because your trying to keep from getting lippage.....also you need a bit more space in between as a proper grout joint....not good guys and imo a leveling system is a must with planks

    Staggering the tile would have given you a better wood look, first thing I teach my guys is always stagger your tile, to get the best look, manufacturers recommend 1/8 grout joint, lots of time and effort for a sub par installation. All boils down to getting paid if your customer is happy that’s all that matters.

    • @HugoCorrea
      @HugoCorrea  6 років тому +2

      Dtileandremodeling thank you for the input, I don't really like big grout joints, there is a lot of cleaning work when you have the joints big, the thin set mortarust be creamy and sticky so you have do the back buttering. I really appreciate your time to write.

    • @Dtileandremodeling
      @Dtileandremodeling 6 років тому +3

      I appreciate that you want to do things correctly.Most guys don’t care.
      Industry standard require 1/16 minimum grout joints.
      Thin set consistency is very important.But it is always recommended to back butter or key in the back of the Tile to ensure a good bond.

      While the tiles can vary of size fluctuations depending of its composition the important part of any installation is to javelin expansion gaps on the perimeter. The absorption of water and the temperature tolerance have a huge role on the techniques you use to install tile
      This particular tiles can be installed without space between them.

  • @christophlindinger2267

    • @HugoCorrea
      @HugoCorrea  6 років тому +2

      Christoph Lindinger hello, you will always have a little space between but very small, that reduces the amount of grout and stays cleaner for longer time. Thank you for watching my videos

    • @christophlindinger2267
      @christophlindinger2267 6 років тому

      Hugo Correa do you leave it like that at the sides, going up to the wall? Or are you putting skirting?

  • @jammts1
    @jammts1 5 років тому +2

    I hate to criticize, but your doing it all wrong ,wasting the customers materials & money, Do not butt the tiles together no room for grout must have a grout joint, very necessary grout joint is not just for looks it has a purpose, as a filler & a cushion, I guarantee even if you use unsanded grout. Tiles will start chipping while you start grouting or very soon after especially on pier & beam floor

    • @HugoCorrea
      @HugoCorrea  5 років тому

      There are reasons for spacing in all floors so they can expand and contract, however the type of thinset mortar and it's elasticity, the gap on the perimeter and the composition of the tiles allow the small gap between the tiles. I normally use tile leveling systems with tiles this big but I installed many with this method and so far they are well. I appreciate your information and the good intention, it is possible that in certain conditions it is better to leave more spacing

    • @darrencrane9371
      @darrencrane9371 5 років тому +1

      Juan: I have the same tiles and the manufacturer recommends 2 installation methods, grout (traditional) and butted with no grout lines (to give a more authentic wood floor look) The tile's edges are designed for this as is the case with most wood look tiles.
