    Do you have a preference from cement board or hardi backer? I've used hardi backer most of the time. Also making sure the sub surface is thick enough to be able to use 1/4" material otherwise 1/2". Putting thinset is so important as well. I've used a hudson sprayer on the back of the floor material to help it not suck all the moisture out so quick for getting all the screws in and able to put in two full sheets as well. Thank you for such a great job and description.

    • @TheExcellentLaborer
      @TheExcellentLaborer  Рік тому +3

      I only have used hardi backer when I was working for a guy modeling a house. Other than that I have always used CB. I am most comfortable using it over anything else. I’d like to try Ditra at some point. Yes a strong subfloor is a must for any type of tile floor backer. I can’t wait to finish all this tile in this house 😅. Thanks for stopping by David!

    • @davidharrison3074
      @davidharrison3074 Рік тому +2

      @@TheExcellentLaborer I use the Ditra product once. It seems like a lot more work. My brother in law who owns the kitchen bathroom remodeling company for over 35 years uses that basically on all the jobs they do. Just like the schluter system. I have always loved just doing the acrylic shower pans and then tile on the walls. But yes when you get used to using a product like you said you just stick with it but you always still do the right steps as needed.
      As long as you keep showing work I will keep following. I enjoy it so much and learn things each time. I'm proud of all the work you do and the time you take to share it all with others.

    • @TheExcellentLaborer

      The spacers give a gap between the tiles to allow grout to squeeze in between. If you have the tiles too close, there is not enough room for the grout to fit. Then you cannot get a good seal between the tiles. Also, if the tiles were touching each other, when they shift, they could ship. I hope that helps!

    At 20 minutes 16 seconds you literally put down the tile and said make sure the notch is going the same direction and they weren't. Lol. And you really love that double quarter inch trowel method, substrate and back of tile. Half by half notch trowel is what you typically use with a 12x24, you also forgot the key in the substrate.

      as for the part where he says "...notch is going the same direction..." on the back butter, and then placed it down opposite direction on floor, he is saying too make sure the back buttering notches are all in the same direction on the tile itself. He wasn't talking about matching the tile back buttering notches up with the floor notches.

      @@robwaters9820 well whatever he was talking about he set the tile down, the substrate was directional one way and the tile was directional the other way so he crossed them. Watch the video again

    Wrong your toilet flange should be sitting on top your tile floor!!

      It is elevated above the tile. It’s probably hard to see it at the angle of the camera. I hope that helps!
