Please keep us updated on how well the yamabisi runs. Also you should do an endurance test. Yamaha vs Yamabisi so we get a better idea of the differences between them
Just a heads up, it is much closer to a Tohatsu motor than a Yamaha. You will find Tohatsu parts will fit it just fine, but Yamaha not so much. edit: also, the only difference between the 9.9 and the 15hp is the carburetor. If you buy a 15hp carb you can upgrade it.
came to say the same. my understanding is that carbs and coils are interchangeable (though slightly different non-critical dimensions) with the tohatsu.
@boat busters has done a couple of videos on the Yamabisi outboard. Seems he found that a Tohatsu outboard has more in common with the Yamabisi, and he did an episode on changing out readily available parts in the US.
A "CE certification" refers to a marking on a product that indicates it meets European Union (EU) safety, health, and environmental protection requirements, allowing it to be freely sold within the European Economic Area (EEA), with "CE" standing for "Conformité Européenne" (French for "European Conformity").
Luke, you are a joy to watch on you tube your energy and family make your channel complete good job on your content and making your videos enthusiastic look forward to watching more!
Tolerances of manufacture and the quality of the steel and aluminum in the crankshaft, pistons, rods and bearings will be the difference that will soon become very evident.
China has a billion people. do you think they can't build a simple boat motor? India and China are going to crush us while we defund education under t.dump
Stx is a options package. comes from the factory with 1.5 inch lift, 4x4, either a 3.0 or 4.0v6 and a manual 4 or 5 speed. Lil heavier springs and shocks.

great segment Luke. for the most part it seems like a good little engine. always love the way foreign products are translated into English.. thanks for sharing.
So luke has to get in touch with cleetus for the next danger ranger cause that would be such an incredible collaboration. That one travis guy you hang out with normally races in cleetus event 🎉
I'd bet the Yamaha manual will tell you exactly what you need to do with the knockoff. If they stole the general design, probably stole manual language as well.
Hi Mate - had a couple of different Chinese outboards before. All Yamaha clones with interchangeable parts. The big difference for me between the name brands and the Chinese clones was the quality of the alloys used. Loads of corrosion with the Chinese brands (my experience). Even bolts and screws eventually corroded away - but when things corroded I replaced with genuine Yamaha parts. All the Chinese outboards I had seemed to be clones of older Yamaha CV outboards. Bit of a false economy I suppose if you have to swap out bits and pieces all the time. Thanks for the Vids Luke - really enjoy your channel
I have great memories of riding down to the Jersey shore with my older cousin in a very similar ranger, this was in 2000 and it was already in similar condition
I wish they would have put the arrow in English 🤣 your funny man.. I recently found your channel and I like watching it. I don't know anything about the work Yu do, crabbing. But I do enjoy your content.
There is a $10 gasket on the rear of that Ranger transmission that has a tendency to blow out. When it does, it dumps the transmission fluid on the exhaust. This causes a fire and your truck will BURN DOWN. Ask me how I know. There is still a Ranger sized burn mark along I-295 near Gardener, Maine exit where mine burned. That was 3 years ago.......
You get what you pay for in every aspect of life. If you buy a boat engine from a company that has never left the office and gone in the water, it's on you.... Lol
28:15 man, i bought a 6hp Tohatsu and it took two days to get it working right. And tooped out as 9knts but on a good wave 15. And paid 1300 cad used. Man, this thing aint bad
Luke that throttle return spring is important. You can add a spring into the linkage near the carb. Without that spring if the operator falls out the motor will continue at high speed and the boat can/will circle around and run the operator over. I would definitely figure out the fix for that. The noise sounds like a rev limiter not a spun hub.
Yamabisi check under the starter mount and look at the flywheel and see if it has a starter gear on the flywheel if it goes it can be converted to electric start.
Whatever place told you to be okay to put a 20 inch shaft on a 15 inch shaft transom are complete idiots. I would be happy to put my qualifications up against theirs as a marine technician
I'm still at 7:46, but I was just thinking if the motor works maybe pull the starter off the Yamaha and see if it works on the Yamabisi. If it does might as well order another one and get it working the same as the Yamaha lol
I never did like a teturn spring on the throttle. I do a lot of alone fishing, and trolling. I like my old Evinrude. I can just set it how fast i want to go, and make only course adjustments.
26:07 back in the day me and my buddy went fishing early one morning, (we were on the water about 4am) i was in the boat while my buddy backed it into the water. i was just going to use the troller motor to get/keep it by the dock while he parked the truck but i started having a lot of problems. i have big feet (US 16 4e) so i learned that day that i cant easily control a foot pedal troller motor, especially in the dark. lol it was actually pushing me away from the dock and in every other direction besides where i wanted to go. i ended up in the middle of this huge lake in pitch black except for the single light on the dock and had to finally just give up on the troller motor and padel back but i couldnt find the oar either so i kind of panicked for a second and then laid down and started to swim back to the dock. after i finally got back over to the dock and the sun came out first, we found the oar that i was basically sitting on and then we realized that even with my problems the troller motor was wired backwards so it was actually working backwards so i was all kind of messed up. lol
I have imported plenty (mostly electronics) from Alibaba and Aliexpress and the reason why the English in the manual is so bad is because they use Google translate and Google translate is useless with Chinese.
The issue I've had using Chinese motors of any type is that the pistons and block are made with inferior metals and fail fairly quickly by losing compression. Hope yours lasts! I've never tried a Chinese boat motor before lol.
That CE is China engineered. Which is suttily different from the EU CE mark, Conformité Européene. As in the CE and the CE are spaced further apart. Totally by accident they look almost identical.
thats my guess as well and really you can get some good stuff that way. now likely they are skimping out any kinda gaskets ... and seals id replace with real yamaha stuff but i mean 1/2 the price so
An issue with the UpSide app... at least in my experience. It is only available at SELECTED gas stations. Not all. Also, many of those gas stations are further away and 10-30 cents more per gallon than the stations closer not on the app. Meaning, the gas stations you're using in the UpSide app, are rewarding you with 10cents a gallon, which you're already over paying by 10-30 (if you had just gone elsewhere). Also, .25cents/gallon back on your first tank - let's say 20 gallons, is $5 back to you. That's not the normal return. You're driving out of your way, scanning a receipt, doing the work, for a couple bucks a month? It's not actually saving you on money you're already spending.
My opinion upside is a rip-off. I've had SO many issues with them honoring payouts. Like 4 or 5 times, they say they can't verify the purchase. I finally closed my account and deleted the app.
I’ve been using for 2 years and have only had issues with verifying purchase twice. In my opinion, it’s not an app issue. It’s the gas station refusing to verify the purchase because they don’t want to pay up.
Glad you got Upside to sponsor your video. That said, I would like to see how making 300 bucks would be itemized and done in one month. Personally, i don't see that it is even possible. Even if you you got 8 mpg and did not require sleep for a month.
The question I would ask is, can you get a used Yamaha or Tohatsu for the same price? Because I have to imagine even used versions of those would be more reliable than this brand new Yamabisi. If the answer to that question is no, you'd still be paying more for used, then maybe this would be worth it. But I suspect you can get reliable used name brand motors for the same or at least close enough.
Me who doesn't give a shit about boats or outboards. I have infact never gotten an ad dor this motor hahaha. Glad to see it and learn about it here though.

I changed my 5 HP Coleman outboard to an 8 HP with an $8 part! 😁
I was curious if the return spring could be installed or if he could add in the electric starter
100%
Tohatsu builds every brand outboard 25 hp and under if I recall correctly.
And most of the parts are Mitsubishi parts
@@harlowecustommicrogreens he would just need to run battery cables and a starter button to a Tohatsu starter.
Glad to hear about the purple fuzzy dice and the good news that came along with them.

I bet the piston in the knockoff is very lightweight aluminum. Give it a few hours operation then listen for piston slap.
I'd bet the Yamaha manual will tell you exactly what you need to do with the knockoff. If they stole the general design, probably stole manual language as well.

One thing I do know about this outboard, the fuel line is too small and restricts proper fuel flow.

Paper work required to import outboards is massive so I wouldn't be surprised if they had issues. Not sure how it is in US, but I assume around same.
