  • Just a quick video on the "how to" for this model year. Also there is some information about older Ford Flex(es) as we also had a 2009, in which we had done some transmission service done as well. Full disclosure, I am not a professional mechanic, watching my videos will instantly make you aware of that.

    Great videos on the Flex! The water pump on the 3.5 L is the most horrendous piece of engineering that I have yet to see.

    they had larger front brakes in later Flex, significant improvement in brake feel. Also, if optioned you can get front , side, rear radar, self parking. ; and auto cruise control with is nice on a trip.

    Una pregunta me dijeron que cambiarle el aceite por completo es malo para los Ford, que lo cambien de poco, si me pasa algo si se lo cambio todo por completo?

    Have you ever had any issue with water pump failure? Also have you noticed a difference with using the k&n filter?

      I haven't had a water pump failure in either Flex, as we had a 2009 as well. It went to 162,000 miles before someone ran into my wife and totalled the car. On that one, we replaced brakes, fluids and had to do a front wheel bearing replacement, other than that, it was solid. On the K&N, not certain to be fair, but I don't have to buy any more filters, I just clean them. Now on the Bronco, which has a Cold Air Intake, there's a huge difference in power and sound as well. Thanks for watching.

      @@MyProjectsFL ok sounds good and reassuring I picked up a 2011 limited with 88k runs and drives smooth but little nervous about the water pump issue. I have just changed did a synthetic oil change, going to drain coolant next. I do know that the new spec oils (GF-6A) and ford's new yellow coolant both supposedly help maintain timing chains better who knows

      @@Jeschitown I don't know for sure. I have used Valvoline SynPower fully synethic in all my vehicles except the Bronco of which I use Royal Purple. I know the transmission fluid did change between the 2009 and 2018 model years, they use something different now, LV and it used to be Mercon V or something. You or I would have to verify that. And also wow, a 2011 Limited with only 88K miles on it, that's low miles in my book. Do you think there is an issue with the water pump or have you read about that? I have never heard than, but I don't get to all the forums either.

      @@MyProjectsFL apparently there is an issue where the water pumps do fail and since it's an internal driven pump it can potentially damage the engine internally if not caught in time on these and the Ecoboost. It should have been a recall but Ford won in court. Besides this issue I have read that these engines are bulletproof. I love the flex going on it's first long road trip with the family this summer and want to make sure everything is up to par.

      Water pump went out on my 19 flex at only 50k miles earlier this year. Thank goodness it was under warranty as it would’ve cost several thousands.

    Helpful video but stupid you gotta take the air filter housing apart just to get to the dipstick

      I said in the video, you may or may not have to remove the air filter box to check it. It's been awhile, but I believe I removed it for ease of access for filling and checking.

    I drain mine cold. What ever comes out I replace with same amount goes in.

      Yep, I find that's it's about 5 quarts out and 5 quarts back in. I think the total case is 10 quarts. Can't quite remember where I got that info, but for whatever reason, changing half at a time figure has stuck with me. Thanks for watching.

      @@cruzmascorro9277 You had some in the filter, did you lay any extra down on the ground? Seems like you'd be missing still about a 1/2 quart. The filter has quite a bit, maybe close to a half quart. Mine is drained warm, but it should still be pretty close.

    Iv done it once at about 50k miles and it looked dark or simular. Even Cap was hard to find was soo dirty couldn't even see it lol

    • @MyProjectsFL
      @MyProjectsFL  Рік тому +1

      Yeah, I think the factory intervals are too long and it's supposed to only last 150,000 miles. Our first Flex lasted 162,000+ miles before it was run into and totaled, so with maintenance, they go much further. I like to do it every 30-50K. I say more often only because it doesn't have changeable filter. Thanks for watching.
