Honestly this fight just makes me want to quit the game and never finish it tbh
i felt that way but i eventually completed it, i got the free item use materia, used hp up to get 30% extra hp, mp up, use cura when you can if you get hit a lot, save your limit for phase 2 and the use the materia that extends block time for parry

SE really wanted to give us souls like challenges but without the souls like balance and mechanics. This fight on hard mode after just fighting two other bosses is kind of insane

Once the dog thing entered the picture I said "fuck this" and temporarily switched it to easy. Worked like a charm. This was waaaaay way way too difficult.
He's not that hard once you know what to do. You stay away from him dodge his attacks keep moving, I just keep doing that move where when you dodge you can swing your sword and it shoots out that green stuff so he would get pressured. Eventually I staggered and that's when I did my limit break, which almost cut his health in half and when he brought his stupid dog, I summoned Odin. I was like "you brought backup?" well i did to" lol. Odin's attacks kept pressuring them and when Odin did his finisher they were both done.
Well that sucks cuz Odin is hard to get !! For me at least. I just left him for another day 😂
@@xmastersx Odin't finisher does a lot of damage. I used Odin to beat Sephiroth to in the final battle.

This is almost as bad as when you had to solo Caith Sith again two of those lightning bolt floating mechs, and then I realized I can magnify thunder on them to really weaken them

Try aerith and two bomb, rip if you haven't been leveling elemental. I was 200 short so I decided to stop and do other side quests with the ap gear+ap boost to get null.

Wrong you can’t have every fight the same just run in and swing a sword blindly but understanding boss mechanics is pivotal in this game It’s not difficult to dodge and and use a Atb attack when he’s reloading literally tells you in the assess screen.

@@Strafruntv lolll yeah partying with aerith is kinda hard cuz her atb is so slow, but i’ve managed to work around that. the final battle with aerith is excruciating but the ending was worth the stress. the clock trial in the lost capitol had me sobbing my eyes out tho

This fight is obnoxious... its not fun. It doesn't feel good to heal with every ATB. At the minimum there should be a check point. I died in the third phase because i couldnt get a heal in... as great as parts of this game are there are so many things wrong with it as well.

ff7 rebirth, such a strange game, it has incredible highs, but also bafflingly deep lows (Ubisoft open world crap, mini games even far into the game, box throwing in shinra mansion really?) and then there is this crap fight. Just play this on easy and give the devs the finger.
Open world crap? Open world exploration is the difference between a goos games and the best games.
It's why dark souls3 and Bloodborne are very good games, but they just can't equal Elden Ring.
This fight felt impossible but with your tips got him!!! Youre a saint for making all of these videos!

It’s ridiculous this is probably my 18th time trying this fight!! It’s pissing me off now .. I’m not even trying anyone.
I had to turn the game off for the night after making multiple attempts at him. He was a pain in the Remake. But this time around, he's even more annoying.
Edit: Honestly, I ended up just putting the game on *Easy* mode just for this fight. I tried my best in normal. That counterattack he does is just too annoying. And I'm getting too old to allow a video game to raise my blood pressure up. Kudos to anyone who plays this in hard mode and can land a hit on him.
I'm very close to just putting it on easy mode and setting my pride aside. This boss fight is way too annoying. I have a full time job and I don't have the time to die over and over on a boss. Sekiro didn't annoy me this much and neither did Kena: Bridge of spirits.
Disorder on quick command really helps with this fight it allows you to pressure him longer and you get your ATB back to use another ATB attack, preferably I use focus thrust as my second ATB attack after using Disorder
After dying about ten times fighting on dynamic difficulty and using no items and only chakra, cure, and deprotect, I beat him by timing the blocks and anticipating the reload. You can stun lock him with Cloud's green wind strikes from afar to build up some ATB and chakra yourself quickly when you get the chance. Save the limit break for the dog to try and beat it as quickly as possible. It also helps during that time to sling some wind slices at Rufus to keep his guard up while you lay into Darkstar.
An amazingly frustrating fight due to his ability to counter your moves and hit you through your block with certain attacks, but just learn the patterns and it's actually quite fun.
I too finally defeated him on dynamic difficulty
My main issue with this fight is the reload part is very quick and even if you're blocking the transition from blocking to using a ability or attacking him is just not enough time window while he's reloading it's like 3-5sec max which is incredibly difficult to achieve consistently
On top of that you need to take care of the dog as well in phase 2

Why not just be honest and tell everyone this is how you're not supposed to make games.. Totally unbalanced and without any flexibility or room for different strategies.. One way only and not even that is possible without depleting all your items..
You can hit and run, you can go with a sekiro like block tactic, you can debuff him, you can buff yourself, you can poison the dog, you can take summons into the fight. There are dozens of ways to beat him you just didn’t really get deep into this games mechanics.

Lmao goddamn. I beat this fight first try, and knew it was gonna cause shitters to cry 😂 so I googled a video just to come laugh at the people crying about it. It's such a simple fight if you ACTUALLY learned the games mechanics, how to use materia effectively, and knowing how to dodge&block effectively. It's actually the o ly fight in the game that's given me a challenge, and reinvigorated my enjoyment of the complexity of the combat system if you utilize it well. It was a blast. Always the people that mash square and cry when it doesn't work one single time the entire game 💀

It is still a bad game... the majourity says so... thank God the sells explained it all.
I would also recommend the following materia:
-Precision defence focus materia for atb boost when defending his attacks
-Item economiser. An ATB-free item for ether or potion is extra valuable in 1vs1!
-Atb boost materia because you’ll need it! The fight also takes long so it’ll recharge before you know it.
Plus the following:
-Use Haste on yourself
-Also use regen (low mp cost + you’ll be waiting and dodging a lot so time will be on your side)
-Opt to go into the menu (square button) before the fight to prep for this battle
-Set the camera on Fixed so when you want to attack the dog you won’t hit Rufus accidentally, triggering a counter
This is one nasty fight so good luck, guys!
This boss isn’t even difficult it’s just broken. Reminds me of that broken boss fight in Sonic 06 with Silver saying “it’s no use TAKE THIS”. They’d better patch it or their boss fight will be one of the running jokes in the videogame community

Honestly if you played remake the fight is not that different. But if you pay attention have some buffs and debuffs going you'll get it. It is cheap though to drop this fight out of no where after the turk fight.
My method:
- haste on cloud at start
- don't use limit on Rufus
- Use clouds ranged magic sword attack in groups of three over and over to build ATB. This stops Rufus from executing attacks as well, so you can cheese as much as you like and take a breather.
- when you have two bars ATB, run around using ranged magic sword and evading attacks, you'll pressure him eventually during reload
- quickly use triple slash to close distance
- then focused thrust or just cheese attack (seems to raise stagger faster)
- once hound enters battle, hopefully you'll have enough limit built up to it out quickly. Maybe a few bravers to pressure it. Build ATB during this phase by focusing on Rufus again and doing ranged magic sword.
- same again as above for Rufus by himself
I had a hard time with this one. Got him down 3/4 like you did. Almost had Darkstar dead and my summon did his finishing move. Both killed and I squeaked by with about 400hp left. Whew!
People, use things like Manaward, Haste, and Enervation!!! This is a debuff fight. Use Deshell to stagger him more quickly. Use Bioga to easily take care of the dog, and also pressure Rufus from range.
ALSO, Block is key in this encounter.
I just beat this fight, took about 5 tries. I can definitely say there is more than “one way” like a lot of people are saying, because I did way more than this and the fight didn’t last more than 5 minutes or so.
Ah yes because I would know that.....BEFORE THE FIGHT!??!?!?
I finally did it, the atb move after the dual shooting is the easiest. Then just focus the dog with limit and summon. Finally repeat the same with like phase 1

I'm going to save some of you some trouble. If you use Cloud's range attack, when he's reloading it will pressure him, and you can get in close. Once he's staggered use Braver once. Repeat, stagger him again and use infinity's edge. Save your limit break for when Darkstar shows up in phase 3.
I got one tip to end the fight quick once poochy shows up, have the enhanced expeditionary medal equipped for lvl 3 limit. Deal with asses and focus on the dog, guard punish him and whatever so he is staggerd, hopefully hp a bit low and you have by now LB. Whack the dog and pay close to Roofy, once he is close let the dog have it with LB3. Roofy will get suck into it and boom match set.
Honestly this game would be a 10 without this boss and minigames. it's instead, a 6.
Good strat. I recommend using focused thrust. Fills the stagger more. Also. It's a little time consuming, but you can use cloud's wind blades you'll almost certainly get rufus to start blocking. That's a decent way to farm up your Action meter. Save your actions to build up his stagger with this strat quick tips gave you here. I'm hard stuck on second phase. My current strat on that is get the dog first, since rufus doesn't shoot that much.(I've noticed that he'll only shoot after his dog, and or if your just running around.) I'm having a hard time keeping his dog occupied while he's trying to flank me.😅😅
Edit: is there a certain build I need for this fight? Because I'm almost at wits end.
Besides that. Overall for the first phase: be patient asf. And try to get your block game on point. Getting those just guards with save you alot of time.
Although braver does instant stager hard to get the time right, I notice after about two attacks he has to reload so after dodging the second I would focus thrust so about 3 times of that would stagger him, also for the dog portion it’s the same as the first fight focus on the dog get him away and triple slash and it automatically pressures the dog then just rinse and repeat the triple slash. Once he’s out continue on the same fight strategy and wallah
He staggers with a single.wind slash(the move after a dodge) for me. Though I'm always too far to utilize it(mostly trying to get atb for heals)
They really dropped the ball with this game, rather than everything being fun it’s nothing but I chore really and it’s like that with all the mini games, I’ll be glad once I’m done honestly
It's easier than you're making it out to be. Try locking on to him so you don't have to keep adjusting the right stick the whole fight. Use perfect defense to block his moves and hit him on reload to gain ATB. From there just interrupt almost any move he uses (especially the ones involving coins) with an ATB ability like Triple Slash. As soon as the move name comes out just do it. He'll be pressured and the coins will fall harmlessly to the floor.
I absolutely love this game but damn the pacing of the boss fights is a little screwy. The amount of double or even triple bosses gets tiring at times. In remake they basically only had one fight that you couldnt rest between and it was the final 2 bosses so it made sense. Here its just insane at times
Just like it was in the original. Think about what it was back than without savepoints and all that quality of life improvements nowadays😂

Pay attention to when he fires about ten rounds either in the ground or sky. Once he finishes immediately attack. Rinse and repeat. That how i beat him in my second try. Good luck yall!!!
I agree this fight was a pain in the ass . I used plasma discharge with hp absorption and once he brought that dog out. I got my limit in the first half of the fight and used on the dog and then got him out and used my Odin summing on rufus . I literally just attack , ran and blocked and used mega potions like a little schoolgirl smh
I've tried to beat him 4 times now and been unsuccessful because of Rufus's dog, but need to look at changing up Materia, Alexanda I have equipment but takes two ATB bars to summon so will switch to Titan instead, great strategy will try this at some point today 😊
I think the problem with this game is the fact that dodge doesn’t even give immunity frames. Im not sure why when they do boss fights like this actively discourage you from using block too much. I tested it, almost every one of Rufus moves go thru block except for his close up shotgun blast and akimbo move. I do like being tested and being forced to use other tactics. Most of us got used to attack, block, attack block. But its just not fun when he also has a counter that you have to wait for that isnt even telegraphed very well.
Its not made apparent what moves cause him to reload. Sometimes he will do 2 moves, reload. So you expect him to do it again. But then he does 3 moves, shotguns you, and then counters you because you expected him to reload. And because the vulnerability is so damn short, you have to preemptively strike if you’re a bit farther away.
One time i timed a focused strike damn near perfectly, the time it took me travel to him was a millisecond too long and he COUNTERED ME. Thats when i knew this boss fight was cooked.
At least with dark souls fights, you can react to certain shit. This fight you just sit, dont block because it makes you move too slow. So you just run around in circles dodging him. Be ready to block the 2 out of 500 moves he has that can actually be blocked (for ATB). Speaking of ATB, you basically cant even use it much during the fight. At least other mobile bosses let you attack a little, run away, attack. So you can build up ATB. Nope, not Rufus. Just fucking sit there and wait for reload at multiple undetermined times.
And people arent even mentioning that the previous boss fight was bs too. I still never figured out how to stop that unmissable, unblockable combo move that one shots aerith. Pls tell me i was dumb and should have hit them more and that they dont expect you to tank a move that does 2000hp minimum to ur entire party.
Even if the fight wasn’t difficult for you, doing that long ass fight (cuz Rude has an insane health pool). also one of them will GET BACK UP if you focus one down and leave the other. You know, a tactic every rpg player will do. If you have a rez mechanic during a boss fight, surely you would make the character easy to defeat again if they get up? Well they didnt. And you do both of these fights, back to back. And your mp doesn’t heal at all. And you have no idea this fight is incoming, i didn’t finish og ff7.

I actually like watching your videos cause sometimes you are figuring it out. You said “I know this must be tough to watch” but other videos where the person just 4 shots them doesn’t help. This is more realistic and I think more helpful.

I beat him on my second try I cheesed him the second time by dodging around him in circle a lot and throwing the sonic boom at him whatever you call it. Keep doing that to your meter fills up.
this fight pissed me off so much like , why is he parrying everything , and my attacks dont do any damage , i hate hate when games do unfair shit like this,
also for a game like this with slow recovery ( i mean , when you do any action the recovery is very slow the character takes some time to be able to do anything else after . ) so i dodge, but try to parry right after , nope cloud is still reconvering from that animation , too slow to start the parry, then i get hit. i tried stellar blade parrying felt more natural, i love this game but it has flaws for sure

Just want to point out that Cait Sith had literally just stolen the Keystone. It wouldn’t make much sense for him to then be assisting Cloud in this fight with his boss lol.
@@What.99 true haha maybe aerith then cuz tbh idk i find her useless in battle at times. Her basic attack has a crazy delay and tends to be basically negligible. I might just suck w her cuz ive heard people swear by her combat but i find it exceptionally meh
@@AQUANAUT18 Oh, it is pretty meh. She can be a great damage dealer, but she really has to be set up for it. She becomes entirely useless if a fast enemy hardcore-aggroes onto her because her general movement and dodges are very slow, plus some of her attacks have relatively-slow windups that she can get knocked out of, therefore wasting that ATB, similar to spellcasting windups. I wholeheartedly agree that she would be the worst teammate under the circumstances, especially in this fight where El Dickhead counters everything and flies all over the arena. She’d potentially be pretty useful if she could get magic spells off without getting annihilated by Rufus… key word: if, but by that logic so would any other teammate.
I just thought it was funny you picked the one teammate that would make no sense if he joined the fight lol. I do think though that Cait would actually be slightly more helpful in the fight than Aerith since he can somewhat tank damage better with the Moogle, but that might be extremely negligible against Rufus’ dumb ass.

So damn easy. I only lost once then redid my materia and faced turks and all. I equipped both sword and bangle that gives me most materia. Did both item type materia. Hp, vitality, speed, strength, atb stagger, ap up, level boost, empowerment, barrier and time and used odin. Just dodge and attack like this video when he reloads. Have a ton of mega potions and such, revival earrings which i didnt even need, also keep cloud alive during turks. Save limit and 2 atb gauges to summon odin and kill dog right away. Limit builds up by getting hit which wont matter if you use the shit out of mega potions

First part of the fight is easy once you figure him out. When he brings the dog in, that's when the game and the ones who thought putting this fight at this point in the game in can fuck off. Im close to sticking this on ebay.

1 Sonic Boom is damn near auto pressure
This is the BEST fight in the game, period! It actually forces you to utilize everything well! From materia combinations, dodging, perfect blocking, and movement and all the different status and effect materia! If you do more than mash square, youll beat him no problem! Hes gonna be my go to for testing out builds in hard mode. Wish there was more fights this difficult that really test you to use all the games mechanics correctly!
Love your philosophy, but goddamn this fight is just too steep of a difficulty increase.
@@jo_sif yeeeeeah i agree, i felt like other fights should have forced learinng those skills a bit more. Roche was more reasonable because you had to learn patterns and timings. With this guy it's literally too hard to discern the pattern or attack him in such a small window meaningfully. it's kind of unreasonable.

This fight is annoying on so many levels. The game could easily be a great 5 out of 5, but shit like this, and some other stuff, just brings it down.
Worst part I discovered. If pause and retry fight, it for some reason gives you 2 bloody options. You have to move up 2 to select restart this fight. In an accidentally quick flurry, I only flicked up 1 and selected the option to restart to the fight before this, so going back to Turks fight…

I thought I could quickly exit out, but I noticed as it was loading the fight before this it was saving also, so both saves went to the fight before.
I threw the controller and turned off the PS5 after this and went fuck this shit.

No actual gameplay mechanics here, just rng that you have enough atb and that your attack doesnt get countered AS HE IS RELOADING because that does happ3n and i havent seen any of these meat riders mention that. Its not fun. Stop defending this garbage QTE nonsense. You WILL get countered randomly even if you hit during reload. Read all the comments from the people meat riding this fight.
