So I made this last week, and it was amazing! Did a couple slight changes to the recipe - I doubled the ingredients (and sauce). I marinated the chicken for a little while in some Shaohsing wine (I just like the flavor it gives to meat), and also added some corn starch slurry to thicken up the sauce a bit. I didn't have any Thai Basil, so I used a combination of Lemon, Genovese and purple basil from our garden which was delicious. Everyone just loved it and was arguing who was taking the leftovers to work the next day! My wife made a comment after we got finished eating, and said "You make a lot of recipes from different people on UA-cam, and most are good, some are just so-so, but everything from Flo Lum turns out great." I totally agree. Thanks Flo and Dude for all your hard work putting these great recipes out for us!!
Made this tonight and it was absolutely delicious. I doubled the sauce ingredients because that's what we like and it was perfect. Next time (which will be soon!) I'll add some toasted cashews. Congrats to Flo and Dude for an outstanding recipe. Thank you.
I grow Thai Basil, and Holy Basil, the main difference is the stems on the Holy Basil are white, as opposed to purple, the leaves are a bit bigger, and the licorice flavor is more subdued. That is from my own pallet. I always order my take out Thai Basil made Thai Hot, I love spicy. I have Thai peppers in my garden, and plan to try this recipe using those. Thanks for posting this video.
I’ve seen so many great dishes Flo but this one is one of my favorites! I must try this! Thanks to you and the Dude man for your time and videos. Hope your family is prospering. God Bless.
Made this for supper tonight. It was wonderful! I used the same sauce with the addition of a Magi bullion cube disolved in a quarter cup of boiling water, for a batch of stir-fried veggies too. Also delicious! I'm so full right now.
I got a bottle of liquid Magi seasoning sauce and regular soy sauce has gone the way of the dodo bird! Careful, it's much saltier than regular soy sauce though!
hello Flo & Dude, yes Thai food is one of my favorite foods to eat, i'm going to try your recipe out soon. Yall have a wonderful week ahead, take care, stay healthy an God bless you and your Family always...
Thanks Flo for sharing another great recipe! I’m making this for dinner tomorrow and I can use up lots my basils . Your shallot and garlic look so fresh and healthy 👍
I googled holy basil. WOW, it has health benefits but the article said it’s rarely used in culinary dishes. Who knew? I may have to grow some. Thanks for that great dish, now I’m hungry.😉
Flo Lum, thank you so much for this recipe (and so many of your others) I cooked it for my wife (she is Thai) and she said it was better than her own. Paired with Jasmine rice and a Sprite, I was told it tasted like home. I did make some modifications. I used onion instead of shallots, added green pepper, scallions, unroasted/unsalted cashews, double the meat (ground chicken), triple the sauce, and a combination of fresh Thai chilies (diced small) and dried chili peppers. Since don't like fish sauce, went with the soy sauce substitution. In short, my wife gave me the thumbs up and told me to cook it any time I want. Thanks for making me look like a star in the kitchen another time.
This looks so good. I always like to add some roasted cashews or peanuts to my stir fry at the end for crunch these days. Can’t go without it I miss the texture haha. Will probably try cashews with this
Thanks for sharing this easy fragrant recipe. Our Thai restaurant has hiked up their price with small portions and what a delight to know that we can make this at home. Where can I buy the kecap manis? It will be nice if you can give a tour of your herb garden, and show us how you grow garlic. My garlic growing wasn’t successful, but the Thai basil was bushy.
Hi Flo, Dude and all, yes everything is getting ridiculously expensive. Flo, that dish looks so good. We are having Henri visiting us in NY, so it is a good day for soup and movies. But next week I am going to try this recipe.
Talk about perfect timing! I planted a ton of Thai Basil and Thai chili plants and need more recipes to try. Can’t wait! any tips on how to store the excess basil? I was considering dehydrating the whole leaves but not sure if they would taste the same in recipes.
Flo, that looks delicious. Dude has the best job! I love Asian foods and I would love to cook it myself as you do. I just need the bottles to make the right sauces for those dishes. I shop at Kam Man Market in Quincy MA and I wished I knew what to get. Could you tell us what to get to make those sauces? We may not have the same brands but we can get the right ingredients! Thx, Gayle.
Here is a video on the sauces I use. I have recently added Kecap Manis (dark sweet soy sauce) to my collection. ua-cam.com/video/i7xSueCBwxI/v-deo.html
I planted a Thai basil and a regular one, and bugs really liked the regular basil but not the Thai basil. I keep forgetting to use it though! This will be a good way! And I have a Thai chili! Thanks!
@@FloLum I made it tonight. I didn’t have enough basil, and I added half a Thai chilli. It wasn’t spicy at all. One kid said ‘I give you permission to make this again”. LOL. The picky kid is still asleep after her night shift. She moves out in a week so I don’t have to cater to her any more 😂
Hi Flow, how you doing? I'm glad that you were using the ABC Kecap Manis. I came from Indonesia and Kecap Manis is a must in every Indonesian's home. I live in Virginia though. I like watching your show. Pls say "apa kabar" to your Malaysian dude-:)
Nice haircut on dude. You are correct that meal came together quickly. Lots of good things from your garden, maybe you do have a green thumb Flo. Be Blessed
Mmmmmm, yummy! 😋😋😋 Another of your creations that I will have to try! Still say you're not going to be able to stop at Cookbook #3. Do I sound like a broken record?? 😁 I had never tried jasmine rice until I started watching your channel. Now, with rare exception, it is my go-to rice when I need rice for a dish. 😊😊
Wow! I'm salivating watching this!!! Can't wait to make it! I didn't plant Thai basil this year, but have lots of Sweet Italian, Lemon and Purple basil growing, so I will use one of those. Got a family of 3 to feed and we like leftovers. If I double the amount of chicken, do you think I should double the amount of sauce, etc. too? Thanks for doing this dish!
I would say yes. Or it will be dryish and lack appropriate seasoning. You could try recipe as is and see how you like, then adjust afterward. The great thing about Flo's recipes is they're so flexible. You can adjust to whatever your palate desires. But, it's never a bad thing to have extra sauce, it's great over rice! I have 2 siblings and we used to fight over the "gravy" from these types of dishes to flavor rice. Great meal stretcher if you're not carb averse!
Sounds delicious. Definitely will have to try it. Could u please make the Thai dish called me grub (don't know the correct spelling so spelled it phonetically. Pretty please?
Hi Flo- you make wok cooking look so easy! I wish I could spend a few hours with you while you’re cooking w/your wok. Maybe that would help me! I still am not the greatest using my wok, even copying what you do! (Don’t worry I won’t show up on your doorstep! 😆) I wish we had smell-a-vision. That just looks so good! Blessings to you and yours. Xxoo
oh my goodness, this look so amazing! What can I use instead of oyster sauce? Add a little more fish sauce and some dark soy? I certainly will try this asap! btw - your garlic looks so plump and juicy! 😁
I have trouble with greens that aren't well done. Could I chop it up or cook it longer than just a wilt. Would one or the other serve the dish better? Hope you ate some too otherwise you be saying "Oh Dude!" all day 🤣🤣🤣
the longer you cook the leaves, they flavor dissipates; to keep more of the flavor, due to your condition, perhaps mince, then mash it not long before serving.
As much as I love going out for Thai food, I do enjoy being able to accomplish similar flavours at home at a fraction of the cost. Happy Sunday! 💕
Diabitis recipe
This has become one of my go-to dishes. Thank you!❤

So kind! Thank you!
Yummy recipe, how wonderful that your garden has produced such nice shallots, garlic, and basil for you. Have a blessed day.

One reason I grow Thai basil in my AeroGarden is to make this dish (and Thai basil beef isn't bad either). Thanks much for the video!

Myrna, we are experiencing Henri as well in Mass. Rain and winds. It's just begun. Stay safe to all of us!!!
Holy basil is called Tulsi in India! It’s a sacred plant. Great recipie! I’ll try it out :)

Great Video and another great recipe, always easy to follow,Ally

You can’t do without fish sauce in Thai cooking. No exceptions. It’s a must-have.

I’ll bet that’s good for shrimp, too!

🤣 A friend has been growing basil indoors using water and plant food and is growing a tonne! May try his method.

hi there do you use ginger in your thai recipes.
Flo, can you tell us exactly the brand of Thai Katchup u used. In the transcript it said Manace katchup
If your Thai basis has some flowers can also be used?
Where do you get your wok and the wok tool you used
Is holy basil blessed by the pope lol. Love your channel and your content.
0:42 amazing..!😂
Can you use Italian of normal basil too?

What’s the difference between Thai basil and regular? Sweeter?

Dude's got to throw rice into the empty wok so all the residual pan juices aren't wasted !
Darn, you have me lickin' the screen. What is the difference in taste of basil and Thai basil?
💖👼🏻🌺
Again 😕 Dude hasn’t announced “ The Taste!”
Eating it with a spoon?....no can do. I have to have chop sticks. It just doesn't taste the same.
