Did you notice Ah Duo's wording to Jionshi....."she was satisfied now.....then kicked me out" after she had gone to take the measure of Maomao as the one that Jinshi seems fascinated with .........very much like a mother checking out her sons girlfriend in today's world

I don't think she had gone to take the measure of Maomao, I think she was surprised to find Maomao in her melancholy drinking spot. She refers to Maomao as the girl who came to help clean the other day, so she probably didn't know Maomao outside that context.
I'm inclined to think her saying "she was satisfied" was her satisfaction of having seen Jinshi grow up and become a man and that she was okay no longer clinging to being a concubine to stick around and be near him.
@@calumnyslander4050 I would disagree because of what Jinshibsaid saying they were drinking together until she suddenly rushed off (when she went to the wall) implying she went there very intentionally .......Her entire purpose for still being in the Palace was to watch over Jinshi so of course she would be aware of MaoMao but obviously she can't highlight that so she would of course refer to maomao as the helper
@@MrJpc1234 I mean she went to the wall intentionally, we saw her drinking there previously. But she had no way of knowing Maomao was there. She was there to be near Jinshi but she wasn't following him around. She was never around when he was talking to Maomao.
She went to the wall for what she did there. Have a drink, gather her thoughts and pour one out for her fallen attendants. Maomao being there was coincidence.
from what I understand, there are people who know about the switcheroo, and that's why Maomao's dad got banished and crippled - they surgically removed the kneecap in one of his legs, which was a common punishment in Imperial China.
and since he got punished for his meddling, her dad taught Maomao not to overthink things and not to involve herself to deeply into stuff that could get her in trouble.
Correction since you seemed confused: Maomao was sold to someone connected to Fengming's family & whoever bought her send her to the rear palace, that's what her name in the end was.

Imagine being the current emperor's biological son but being raised as his younger brother. "The emperor will just have to make himself a new prince."
Till then, jinshi is a crown prince as the only male aire whether he be a son or a brother.
@@nataliereeves3594 yes and that will have some consequences later and create some funny situations, since maomao doesnt realize.
I don't mind that Ah-Duo's head lady didn't know about the swap, because in her guilt of keeping her secret of poisoning and going to the gallows, she protected Ah-Duo's secret that keeps her son alive. The head lady in waiting should feel relieved in death that she served her lady in full.

At this point I’m not sure why they’re keeping it a secret. Previous emperor is gone and previous empress probably knows. Also extra sad that after thinking she killed Ah Duos son she tried to murder Ah Duos pseudo daughter. Really tragic how her devotion and love got so twisted and caused the suffering and death of herself, the serving girl who jumped into the moat, and almost the lady in waiting is Lishu. There may be others as well
@@argetlam05 I dont think the previous empress know that the babies were swapped, imagining that the current emperror looks like his dad, and the empress have some similarities with Ah-Duo, Im pretty sure they wouldnt notice the babies were swapped even when they grew older. If they found out what really happend, they would have two issues: first is the fact of Ah-Duo's act made the baby brother of the emperor die and in that time she could have been beheaded and could still now; and second is that this would fuck jinshi up, because he dont wanna be emperor, he pretends to be a eunuch, he is next to the throne because of the emperor didnt have a heir yet, but that he can help taking care of the concubines, but revealing his actually son of the emperror, just means everything he have done till now was in vain
Note down that Maomao's conjuncture was "babies were swapped, that's why Ah Duo stayed, dad got punished, & prince is hiding" and not "babies were swapped, that's why they look similar"

Ah-Dou is Jinshi’s mother and he is the Crown Prince. He does not want this so he first hidden as EmperorS brother and also Eunuch in Rear Palace. The why’s remain a mystery waiting upon more reveals of the Royal Family prior to current Emperor.
Maomao is still denying her own judgement - she seems to be unwilling to admit to her own conclusions.
Ah-Dou stayed to see and help her son grow and Jinshi knows all of this. Her maternal nature explains her affection to Lishu. The confidence and “affection” between her and the Emperor rescued Jimshi and Lishu.
Sadly the Emperor is trapped in his role constraining his actions. But he is basically a good man as evidenced by this affection for Luhua and Gyokuyou as well as his “support’ of Fuyou.

i read ahead in the manga and it hasnt been revealed yet. has it been revealed in the lightnovel?
and since the manga is already ahead by about 2 seasons we will have to hope that the anime goes on for that long.
@@TalasDD Yeah it was basically spelled out in the light novel. The first season was only the first 2 light novels. 11 or 12 light novels are out in English, think 17-18 in Japan.
I think the manga is only still in the 3rd light novel, maybe the fourth.
I didn't even realize that honey isn't safe for babies until I watched this episode, but it turns out that you're really not supposed to feed them honey until they're at least a year old. I was a bit surprised that Ah Duo - who comes from a family that produces honey - didn't know about this, but I suppose in those times people might have just thought that the babies got sick from natural causes rather than the honey.
It's not Ah-Duo's family that produces honey but her head maid Fengming's family.
You have to remember that this is a time where most people didn't have the information about honey being dangerous for babies when for everyone else it is considered even healthy to use.
As explained in this episode Fengming herself only got to know from Lishu years after the death of the baby that honey is dangerous to babies and Lishu only knew this because she almost died when she was little because of honey (the doctor who treated Lishu was probably one of the better doctors around because he knew about honey when most probably wouldn't have).
That's a simple answer: No one knew. It's not standardized knowledge yet that honey isn't good for babies. They didn't even know of allergies yet.
Also Fengming's family produces honey. Not Ah duo.
You will know why they were was switched and how that happened! Love the Dowager's story, it's too tragic but she's a survivor!

Just because you see Maomao eating on a plant that you don't recognize as food figure it's poisonous first then ask. Maomao looks for the answers but knows as a commoner determining these answers could be dangerous to her so she doesn't want to get involved.

Jinshi would be the emperor's brother if there was no switch... If there IS a switch, he's the emperor's son.
in both cases he would be hair apparent. the savety that he is granted trought the posible switch is that as the emperors brother he doesnt have to stay the heir apparent and if there is another heir he can have a lavish and way safer life then as the prince.
Isn't it the opposite ? If there was no switch, he would be Ah-Duo's son thus the emperor's son. If there WAS a switch, he would be the emperor's brother, so the empress dowager's son
@@UguuUng Ah-Dao's baby "died" so no. If he's switched he "becomes" the Emperor's brother, while remaining in actuality his son. If there is no switch, he is currently the emperor's brother.

So you acknowledge that if Ah-Duo switched Jinshi, he becomes the emperor's brother, but in reality is his son. So that means that if he wasn't switched, Jinshi would be the emperor's son who is supposed to have passed away.

If you've been paying attention, you know a couple things by now:
1. Food tasters are probably the lost job among the ladies in waiting.
2. Head attendants, who are always seen with their consort, is obviously the highest.
Okay, so what, right? Oh, who is the head attendant of Lady Lishu? We don't know explicitly but it is pretty obvious... someone got a promotion, and presumably because she started taking her job seriously.

I don't know if it's because I don't understand English well, but I think you confused some things.
According to Maomao's assumptions in this episode, Jinshi would be the son of the current Emperor with Ah Duo, and not the brother of the current Emperor (Assuming that Jinshi knows about the exchange, this would clarify why he cried).
You are still confusing, thinking that Ah Duo was the previous Emperor's concubine, but that was Maomao's confusion, and it was later clarified, remember? The 14 year old girl who cannot consume honey (I forgot her name) who was the concubine of the former Emperor. Ah Duo was never his concubine, she was only the concubine of the current Emperor.
Maomao is not related to the lady who was executed. It is those who kidnapped Maomao who do business with the family of the lady who was executed, so this affects Maomao.
Aren't you the only ones reacting to The Apothecary Diaries who think like that, maybe there was a wrong translation of the subtitles in the English version? I watched the anime when it was released, but I don't think I had that kind of confusion with the Portuguese subtitles, but I'm not sure, it's been a while. Kkkkkkk
They're mostly on top of it, I think, they just haven't thought through the implications of Jinshi being Ah Duo's son by the current emperor. They get that "Ah Duo's son" is currently posing as "the empress dowager's son."

Technically, jinshi is the emporas brother, but in reality, he is his son.
According to the manga, the swap was agreed to by the empress dowager because she hated the old empora and wanted to get back at him.
