    One important thing I forgot to mention. For extra realism, randomize the sample start by clicking the “shuffle” icon on the right side of the sampler. This will give slight variations to each note the way a human player would.
    I also set the blend of filter 2 to 1.12 to let more of the high end through.
    You might also notice more modulations in the Patreon preset because I experimented with adding in the harmonic series wavetable in osc 1 for extra tonality. It has several voices of unison with table spread to get multiple harmonics. LFO 1 modulated its level and wavetable frame. I ultimately decided it was more realistic without it.

    Why aren't you already working for library companies focusing on modeling (rather than sampling), as Audio Modeling or Sample Modeling? Your knowledge and ear are impressive.

    Your understanding of acoustic modeling and being able to translate that to Vital is just fascinating. Making sounds with synths stoked my early passions as a teenage nerd (many eons ago). I would sit around and study the spec sheets of the ARP 2500 and Moog modules - things I could never afford. Now, with Vital and VCV and knowledgeable folks like you, it just amazes me how far we've come.

    You really know how to emulate musical instruments such as charango, dulcimer, wurlitzer, etc. Also you can benefit from emulating musical instruments in a synthesizer because it uses less CPU than a sample library.

    Outstanding! Where did most of you knowledge on acoustic modelling come from?

      Thanks! I used to play in orchestras, so I have a pretty good idea of how instruments sound. Then I just experiment a lot and use what I know about sound design to get close.

    Great vid, and can you do the synth from the cage by death grips

      Thank you, if you're asking about the bass synth, it sounds like a square wave with some unison detune and either a flanger or a phaser

    How would you start creating a didgeridoo? I'm in the middle of creating a didgeridoo patch right now with additive synthesis and i find that this is a really hard instrument to synthesize xD. I did some spectrum analyzation to recognize special harmonics came with this instrument and all that stuff but its still very hard to create. Any tips?

    Hello all,
    If you are okay with skipping a step, you can use white noise instead of an external sample. You can still get a nice wood flute sound. It's a little more synthetic but it still has a full timbre ✅

    • @EricBowman
      @EricBowman  Рік тому +2

      You can certainly use white noise or any of the other factory noises. However, you'll get a much more organic sound from stretching out a sample of something similar to a flute, like a didgeridoo. The sample still retains a lot of its character if you don't completely remove the tonality. If you don't see yourself ever using PaulXStretch, you could also just sample the noise from the video at 6:12 and use that.

    Love your presets. Some of them only work on the 1.5 update, not the 1.8 update.

    • @EricBowman
      @EricBowman  Рік тому

      Thank you! I believe 1.5.5 is currently the latest version. Do you have 1.0.8? The presets will only work on version 1.5 or later, which are still free. Version 1.5.5 is currently labeled "early access" but is fully functional.

    hi Eric... you think you might have any interest in creating some sounds with Vital that are "surreal" or "unreal" ...as in not intended to reproduce sounds already existing? i know these terms i used are probably not especially appropriate words. i don't know, maybe you have found that making so-called "previously unheard" sounds is a boring endeavor... it does seem like reproducing realistic sounds may be more satisfying for you because of the high level of expertise they require to make with a synth (i don't have the ability, knowledge, talent, motivation, etc. to make the realistic sounds). however, i imagine myself being fascinated by unreal or surreal sounds created by you with Vital... it seems to me with the level of expertise you have that you could create some truly out-of-this-world stuff. again "unreal" or "unique" or "original" is probably a matter of personal taste and truth be told, maybe there aren't any terribly "unique" or "original" sounds left to make, unless the way humans perceive sound was to change dramatically... but i still hold on to this interest

    • @EricBowman

      That's a good question. I've definitely carved out a niche for myself as the guy who recreates sounds, though I do have some originals like the ones from the granular soundscapes video and about 95% of the sounds from my Ear Candy preset pack. Many of those sounds are unique but many of them definitely resemble something you've heard.
      Though even if a preset like this one is based on a sound you've heard, it will always have a different flavor than the next person's interpretation or a sample. I used to be a jazz musician and fell into the trap of trying to be too unique before being able to imitate the masters of that art. I believe the first step to being able to be truly original, if that's even still possible, is to be able to reproduce whatever you hear. All the best jazz musicians I heard could do it. You could ask a saxophone player like Chris Potter to sound like Lester Young, Sonny Rollins, John Coltrane...whoever, and he would nail it in his own unique way.
      I've been dumbfounded by a lot of the AI art I see that simply combines elements of different artists in a unique way, but looks much more original than most modern artists. I think most modern music we hear is simply a unique combination of what's already there. Salvador Dali, who I consider to be one of the most original artists of all time said, "Those who do not want to imitate anything, produce nothing."
      But perhaps I should mix it up a little. Maybe I'll make a video on how you can take some of my presets and create several unique or new sounding presets from them.

      @@EricBowman i think the videos where you emulate a real sound with Vital are truly fascinating and i'd bet there will long be an audience for that due to the fact that people interested in sound design appreciate and are fascinated by how damn realistic the sounds are and the level of expertise, step by step, that goes into it. i've learned things about Vital watching your recreations of sounds and i've come to that knowledge in a fun and engaging way.
      i'll have to check out the granular video - i think i may have seen it. i hope your preset packs with the "unreal" sounds are doing well.
      i ver much like the idea you float in your last paragraph. also, maybe once every couple of months you could put up a video showing the process of creating one of the "original" sounds from one of your preset packs... or just one you came up with for a future release of presets. maybe that wouldn't work because it is like sharing a patented invention with the general public.
      anyway, thx for your reply and for your contribution to the world of sound synthesis and music
