Cartier makes amazing watches. They are all pretty much amazing and gorgeous pieces. Though most are not my taste, I still love them and think they are really great pieces (if that makes sense). They don’t compete with anyone in terms of design…they just do their own style of art. That, I like.
I've been an owner of the SS Cle since release! As a modern dress watch, especially at this price range, I don't think there are many watches that can give the Cle a run for the money. The lack of half links/adjustable part of the bracelet does hurt it a bit but I think it's manageable. The crown also plays in to the key motif by the way; it's meant to invoke the feeling of turning a pocket watch key when winding it. I think what hurt Cle the most is it was kind of sandwiched between two great releases, the Drive and the new Santos. Sad to hear they're softly discontinuing the line. - Han
I’m totally with you Bruce, I can’t fall for dress watches.. I had a JLC Reverso Duoface and it was an amazing watch, but I never really felt the connection and I ended up selling it for a Planet Ocean white dial orange bezel.. I suppose everyone has different tastes
I'm just a watch guy since several years. I started with the sporty models. But as longer I collect watches the dress watches became more interestingly to me. I love my JLC Master ultra thin moonphase and hunting for a Patek 5212. The Santos is a perfect watch. Something between sporty and dressy.
I appreciate what you're saying about this being an interesting overlooked piece, but I'd rather have the Santos any day of the week as one to actually own and not just to ponder.
Nice video as usual, Bruce. Your video captures are so much better than looking at pictures of the watch. Can you review Sebastien’s latest Brellum Wyvern GMT? Thanks.
The Roadster XL in yellow gold is a class dress watch…this is a Drees watch too…if you own this its not your daily watch this is for a nice night out in Naples FL in dressed up casual dress…
I have a Cartier Drive, not the moon phase which is spoilt by the word automatic. Although it looks good and has an in house movement supposedly, I agree that from a horological point of view it is not satisfying. They also lose money hand over fist. WOS offered me £2k for my 2018 model - retail £5700.
It shares some characteristics with the dressier Grand Seikos. I think those do a better job of holding my interest with the sword hands and other applied elements on the dial really playing with the light. This Cartier doesn't seem to have much going on with the dial beyond the guilloche, as awesome as it is. At least, that's how they come across in a video. I might change my tune seeing this in person.
I have both the cle and the ballon in two tone. i love them both. I have tank francaise and santos too. But i dont really in to square watch so i sold them'
Always loved cartier's design language. They're imo the only blue chip watch maker to make a vast line of truly unique sport and dressy sport watches. While every brietling silhouette looks fairly similar and an oyster is an oyster is an oyster and AP wouldn't know what to do without an octagonal bezel, Cartier has released gems like the drive, the roadster, sportier versions of the tank, the ballon, etc etc etc. Criminally underrated.
I was watching this vid and walked in the room with my wife and when you said Stan she looked up at me with a side eye....my name is Stan😂😂😂😂 I had to inform her it was not me lol. Great vid as always and I agree with you. I really appreciate dress peices and have 2 in my collection that I rarely wear. I'm more of a sportier watch guy as well. I think the comfort of having great water resistance place a part with me.
Yes, a couple months ago I reviewed the Drive Moonphase which I did enjoy a little more than this one. Also lent in to the channel by the same Cartier lover :)
I totally get it and lean to the sportier/diver side. I recun the Santos is dressy enough for me. I love the Santos. Appreciate this Cle De Cartier still looks like a nice piece. It’s all about personalities and style. Your hair is not stupid mate, take it easy on yourself. 😉
That is a beautiful watch. I love the tank and the santos but also like the lesser liked models like the Balon Bleu and the Cle. I love that case shape, it looks very comfy.
Very nice watch. Cool little note their about the color of the numbers. I didn't know that Cartier did that to distinguish between steel and white gold.
Great video and watch, I could own this watch. However it's a weekend watch not a daily wearer to me. I was asked today by a coworker, me being a watch collector and owning several luxury brands, rolex, omega, Bvlgari, tudor, AP and Cartier which is my favorite and I had to say Cartier because of how classy they are....but omega is a close second for value and quality.
Clé is pronounced like the end of the word Cartier, not "clay." Nice watch but I prefer the Santos, this is too dressy. Actually, I might just buy the Santos large with this black/grayish dial.
@@BruceWilliams Oh right Santos as the first wrist watch in 1904 and Reverso in 1931. Not sure how publications mention it, but Reverso was built for the sport of Polo while Santos was for the earliest pilots. I love the Santos too, but would only pick one - ugh the dilemma

Interesting, I've had the reverse. I'm moved away from dress watches and more towards sports watches the more into the hobby I got.
Man, that is a beautiful watch. That case is gorgeous. I’m in trouble now…
Interesting watch that looks like it sits very well on the wrist. Thanks for the video. I’m due to look at a Tank Americaine next though.
It's not for me, but my wife really likes this design and is leaning toward it over the tank. Thanks for the excellent footage as always.
I appreciate what you're saying about this being an interesting overlooked piece, but I'd rather have the Santos any day of the week as one to actually own and not just to ponder.
I have this watch. Got it from my mother in law as a gift many years ago. I think it’s a beautiful piece Also it’s a female watch?
Nice video as usual, Bruce. Your video captures are so much better than looking at pictures of the watch. Can you review Sebastien’s latest Brellum Wyvern GMT? Thanks.

Love this keeper❤

Cool look, thanks for presenting it. I think I’ll still go for the Tank, but it’s because it’s such an iconic shape/look.
Beautiful watch, not sure i would buy it but still a pleasant breakthrough to me

Love Cartier, imo, they make killer, interesting, cool watches. Especially the Calibre line that was discontinued which I think was a huge mistake.
Beautiful watch that deserves to be worn on special occasions along with a nice suit and dress shoes.
whats with the printing on the C of "automatic". I know its hard on guilloche but still seems a little chitzy
Very classy , intriguing crown .. I have a older panther, these dress pieces make great everyday watch !!!
very lovely review
Not into dress watches in the slightest, but Cartier are THE best in that genre imho- proper classic classy timepieces. Gorgeous.
Cheers Mate 👍🏻👍🏻
@Bruce you are review what size? 40mm or 35mm?
Interesting case, but I would still go for the Cartier Moon phase, you did review recently.
I love this piece and I would happily wear it with jeans.

Lol I almost got you in trouble!
Indeed😂
Love dress watches. Cartier are the kings in this field.
I adore Cartier, and I like the fact that they are often overlooked by watch enthusiasts.
Ues agree i had a franke muller but i still prefer my skx over it
If I wore this I would be beat up and robbed. And thats why I stick with Seiko. 😆
Do you live in a dangerous area?
You know that case shape looks like a mini turtle lol
Another great video, Bruce! Ever try the drive? The manual wind version with piaget movement is hard to beat imo. Keep the great content coming!!

I've never been a huge dress watch fan, but I can definitely appreciate a nice one when I see one. This watch is beautiful.
I can totally imagine a grey haired man with a polyester polo shirt and khaki shorts wearing this Cartier at a beach vacation spot
Ya forgot black socks!
I totally get it and lean to the sportier/diver side.
I recun the Santos is dressy enough for me.
I love the Santos.

i know who does crowns that intergrates into the case - seiko 5 !!!! lol
God loves an optimist😉
Love the case shape
It’s too bad they got rid of the Roadster.
That is a beautiful watch. I love the tank and the santos but also like the lesser liked models like the Balon Bleu and the Cle. I love that case shape, it looks very comfy.
Love the case…but maybe its because it reminds me of that other Japanese brand..
lol I cannot see it
Very nice watch. Cool little note their about the color of the numbers. I didn't know that Cartier did that to distinguish between steel and white gold.
Beautiful watch love it 😍

Beautiful watch, but it looks a bit feminine in my eyes 🙂
I can see that
@@BruceWilliams I thought you wanted a datejust at one point, not sure if it’s still on your list
@@DarylChangs You bet, just waiting on the call
@@BruceWilliams So you probably will fall for a dress watch 😁 Which combination are you waiting for? I don’t recall
Beautiful watch
I really enjoy these Cartier reviews.
I'm thinking about a Tank next
Clé is pronounced like the end of the word Cartier, not "clay." Nice watch but I prefer the Santos, this is too dressy. Actually, I might just buy the Santos large with this black/grayish dial.
Only 30m water resistance? That’s crazy. No reason EVERY watch can’t be at least 100m. At least then this piece could be a somewhat daily wear
The printing on "automatic" is atrocious lol
Haha I like that. The guilloche is so defined there is no smoothing it out on the text portions
A high flat top likely better
For me, Cartier is a brand I like, but will not buy.
Gorgeous watch.. Great review..
Roadster is the one to buy.
Roulette dial?
I would just go for a JLC Reverso instead. First sports watch in history, but now a versatile piece like a Cartier Tank
Look up the Santos, that one predates the Reverso by many years as the first sports watch :)
@@BruceWilliams Oh right Santos as the first wrist watch in 1904 and Reverso in 1931. Not sure how publications mention it, but Reverso was built for the sport of Polo while Santos was for the earliest pilots. I love the Santos too, but would only pick one - ugh the dilemma
a Cartier Pasha....or a Glashütte?...........thats the question!
And the answer is always the same... both
@@BruceWilliams hahahaha,.....indeed!
I don´t like Cartier`s design. I prefer Grand Seiko over Cartier.
I would take a Ballon Bleu over this
Sorry, but Cartier makes feminine, metrosexual, watches....
