I’m a local to this area and been all over the place. 99% of the time it is beautiful and serene. Back in 2002 myself and 2 childhood friends hiked the trail from the Summit of Clingmans dome down to the where these folks started their hike. We stopped halfway at a primitive camp sight to make camp for the night. It was an interesting night. It was probably 1 or so in the morning and piss pouring the rain. We had all 3 been asleep but woke up at the same time hearing a large group of kids. It sounded like at least 10 kids. There was 1 adult voice who sounded like a camp counselor. It sounded like they stopped at one of the sights below us. We heard the familiar sounds of tent poles like they were setting up camp. We woke up at about 7 expecting to see a large group as the sounds were no more than 20 yards away. Silence. No one else was in the camp site. It was just us. Now absolutely it’s possible they made camp in the pouring rain well after 1 in the morning and woke up and packed up before we woke up. But that doesn’t make any sense whatsoever.
Clingmans done area is known for a cluster of bizzare disappearances very eerie area when everything goes quiet like that get the hell out of there! You should look up Dave paulides he talks about these stories and this particular area very interesting!
I’m from this area (western NC) and my mom was actually born very close to here. There is a lot of sadness here in that many people lost their homes and communities were covered in water after Fontana Lake was dammed to create electricity for nearby OakRidge, Tennessee to build the atom bomb. This was to be called Tennessee Valley Authority. The location they are here is not far from Bryson City, North Carolina and a short drive to Cherokee. There are many creepy folklore stories in this area including Bigfoot but it is beautiful to camp in. My mom was a Collins and Collins Creek in the national park is named after her family.
Beautiful hike, those homesteads were something back in the day, those ppl were tough, strong ppl that endured alot, amazing lives they must of lived ...
I just found your video after visiting the Road to Nowhere. I didn't know any legends or anything that took place. After hearing the legend, I am in awe. My husband and I are both open. He has the sense that there was old energy there at the tunnel. I didn't so much feel but saw. In my minds eye, I saw this older lady who was in the hills around the tunnel with weird looking fingers. I was struck by how odd her fingers looked.
There's supposedly a huge lake at the base of Clingman's Dome that's a haven to animals but forever denied to humans. The story goes something like this. A young Cherokee warrior was about to die of thirst so was led to this lake by the Great Spirit, on the condition that he never hunts there. He agreed, but years later his village was about to starve, so he reluctantly shot a bear there. Due to the warrior's transgression, all humans were cursed to never be able to find the lake. Now people can see birds suddenly fly up from nowhere and vapors spring up, but the lake itself will forever remain unseen.
@@ricodinero5313 I found the book in Townsend, among others. It's called "Ghost Stories of the Smoky Mountains", or something like that. I got three books of ghost stories there. They're good entertainment.
@@ricodinero5313 It's actually Mountain Ghost Stories and Curious Tales of Western North Carolina. Sorry about that. I found it among my books at my house.
I have really started to enjoy your adventures! Been in that area before and had a good scare. We hiked from the tunnel to the lake and on the way back we heard the snarl of a mountain lion but never saw it. We needed to follow the trail back, and it was terrifying with only a pocket knife and mini pocket mace. A few years later we did the hike again and were better protected, lol. This year we are thinking of Pisgah national forest and maybe Nantahala national forest. Keep the videos coming !
We're going to be there on exactly the same date a year later. We were going to Bryson City anyway and because of you we're taking a hike on this trail. Same time of day and everything. Thanks!
The creek is just a couple of miles south of Clingmans dome. Trenny Gibson went missing without a trace by Clingmans Dome on October 8th 1976. None of her things nor remains were ever found. In spite of the fact that she was part of a school trip day hike with students on either side of her on the trail. She was last seen stepping off the trail towards some point of interest off the trail. No noise nor yell was reported.

Actually the government ran the families out of the mountain, out of their homes. There was about 1,300 of them. Some of them said no we're not leaving, but they were forced out. Then the government made a deal with them, because a lot of them had family buried there and their grave sites are still there to this day. They said what we can do is build you a road to go see your deceased loved ones, because the road that was prior was going to be underwater because they built the lake. So they started the road and they ran into an environmental problem but that was fixed. But then the government supposedly didn't have any money to finish it! Well later on down the road the government ended up paying Swain county 52 million I think it was, you got to remember this was like back in the 1930s and 40's so they paid them! washed their hands clean, said we're done with it and The Road to nowhere still sits there broken promises from the government what a shock NOT!

A little boy aged 6 went missing during a hide and seek game ... in an Eastern Tennessee state park
Dennis Martin, June 1969, at Spence Field, up on the state line crest. It made the national news. Searchers looked for him for weeks. No trace of Dennis ever found. There's tons of stuff on line about that case on line, including a lot of conspiracy theories.Look it up.
