I really appreciate your reviews. I’m having a terrible time with the Bose NC 700 headphones. I’ve already had 3 different pairs sent to me by Bose under warranty. I’m using as my main smartphone the iPhone 13 Pro. I have 3 pairs of Bose QC 35 II and all of them work PERFECTLY on phone calls - everyone hears me GREAT - if I leave myself a VM my voice is loud and clear. The Bose NC 700 sound like my voice is muffled and distorted - as if there is something covering the mic’s and blocking my voice. I’ve reset them multiple times - NOTHING helps. I have even tried them on several different smartphones. The iPhone 6, iPhone SE 2nd generation and the iPhone 13 Pro - of course the iPhone 6 is running an older iOS version of 12.X. My iPhone SE 2nd generation and 13 Pro have been tried with both iOS 15 all revs and now iOS 16. The NC 700 is muffled and distorted on ALL of the iPhones. I even tried them on my BlackBerry KEY 2 and DTEK 60 - the exact same problem with both BlackBerry Android smartphones and the iPhones. I’ve NEVER had any trouble with Bluetooth headphones before with any brand let alone Bose. They sound GREAT with music but my voice is all muffled and distorted as if the mic’s are being blocked by something. As I stated, all 3 pairs of my Bose QC 35 II work perfectly for voice calls. I also use AirPod PROS, Bose QC earbuds, Beats Fitpro buds - they all work GREAT for my voice on phone calls and voice recordings as well. The only thing that makes any sense to me, is that the Bose NC 700 want to pair with the LE (low energy) setting in the Bose audio app. Even if I pair them on the iPhone or Android smartphones directly in the Bluetooth setting without the Bose music app - I get the same terrible voice call results. I would really appreciate any input and advice you may have for me. Warm regards, Joel Toronto, ON Canada
Hahaha totally agreed on the Bose NC 700. I have one and it’s terrible for me given its high price. It feels heavy and hurts my head after not that long time of wearing. And the noise canceling is terrible as well, I have tried resetting and anything that might help in the community page. Nothing works.

One thing I'm not seeing being mentioned anywhere is the insane amount of audio delay. It is VERY significant when on bluetooth. If you use these for gaming, buy a decent length aux cord because it is bad. Not sony's fault really, just bluetooth slowness.
@@Ketsy16 That's true, I'm only saying don't buy it as a wireless gaming headset like I did. It still works great and audio quality is amazing, but the delay can be bad and its just something I wasn't expecting.
@@bretthuston4727 well what were you expecting of course there is delay with bluethooth if you want a better experience get wirless gaming headphones like from razer with a usb dongle for connection then you will have a very low delay but cable is still better if you want to get every piece of delay out of the way :)
these headphones are terrific for the ederly who are losing their hearing but want to watch television programming or the baseball game without the rumble and rattle of others in any shared space. As you age surrounding noise is a huge barrier to hearing. Great review.
I just got a pair and am amazed at the comfort, sound and controls. I bought them because I have been hearing good things about them from patrons at the gym I go to. People are sweating heavily into to these doing intense cardio with no damage to speak of. Currently my gym headphones are the Skullcandy crusher evo, also no water protection rating and I have been sweating like hell in them a few times a week for over a year and they still sound like brand new, right out the box.
Watching again in stir up interest in hopes of holiday deals coming up. I really wish Purple made ear cups with the grid like their mattresses to help with sealing over uneven surfaces like glasses and hats, and simultaneously providing heat dissipation.
As a video creator, I prefer to use the wired connection (to avoid the Bluetooth latency). What’s the sound quality, ANC performance and latency in wired mode? Thanks! Great vid!
@@t.w.1672 No no, it's huge, around 150 ms. You just don't notice when watching content because the device delays the video with the same amount. But video editing is interactive, then that doesn't work.
Thanks for the great review... I've been waiting for this. I will be getting this next week and I really hope that there would be great improvements from someone using the XM4 earbuds.
@@MikeOBrienMedia Thanks again... I've seen your reviews on the XM4 earbuds as well. In fact your video was the one that convinced me to get it haha now your XM5 video will make me buy the headphone 😂
I have xm4 earbuds and I got xm5 headphones in a Sony store after I tried them and I was blown away by its sound compare to both xm4 earbuds and headphones. You won't regret :)
I have gone through 2 pairs of Sony headphones xm3 and xm4. Both broke at the hinge point. The xm5 suffer from same issue. It’s a known problem. Ear pads breakdown with frequent use. Sony wont replace under warranty. The cost to fix hinge and add new pads bring the cost over the cost of AirPod Max. Sometimes buying higher quality at higher cost is the cheaper option in the long run.
I tried them in the store along with 700s and I found the fit better with the 700. I guess it all depends on the size of the head. If you have a smaller head, I think 700 is better.
Great review, Thanks! Some are quick to say what’s sauce for the goose but when the ear is on the other foot, sometimes the secret sauce can be lost. Not this time though; It is all super good.
Great video. Thanks for that. My key priority is taking phone calls and zoom calls in coffee shops and cafes, with lots of background noise and chatter. Is the Sony WH-1000XM5 good so that the person or people that i am talking to do not get distracted by the background noise and chatter? Do you also review earbuds - which earbuds would you recommend for phone calls and zoom calls?
I’ve been enjoying my XM5s since they were first released. But why does nobody mention that they’re GIGANTIC fingerprint magnets? This is one way in which they’re far inferior to their predecessor, which had a wonderful anti-smudge surface that felt much more upscale than the XM5’s smooth plastic. I also count the eco-friendly box as a negative, since it probably won’t survive until I’m ready to sell these and upgrade to the XM6. That makes not just the box, but the whole pair of headphones more likely to end up in the garbage since they sell more easily with the box. At least where I live.
I watched a different review and they mentioned that the telescopic headband has become looser, so it doesn't keep the size firmly, did you notice the same thing with yours?
I think Sony's software could be more polished for using the headphones with multiple devices, like a phone and a tablet. Data is not synchronized seamlessly between devices and often the Headphones Connect app crashes when changing devices.
I just purchased the Sony WH-1000XM4 Black Friday at Best Buy on sale for $228.99 and the original price is $349.99. I saved $121.00. I love the Sony WH-1000XM4 watching my 2022 Samsung OLED S95B 4K Smart Television. The Sony WH-1000XM5 is currently on sale at Best Buy for $50.00 at $349.99. The original price for the Sony WH-1000XM5 is $399.99. I prefer the Sony WH-1000XM4 because they're basically the same at the Sony WH-1000XM5 in my opinion. They both are expensive Sony Headphones and I think no one would disagree getting the Sony WH-1000XM4 for the Black Friday sale is a good choice.
I agree with most of what you have said. The only two things I disagree with are the ANC and the sound signature. I don't think the ANC is that great on these or even the Bose. I really don't understand what everyone is raving on about. Imo, out of the bunch Bose QC45 blocks out the ambience sounds though still not great. When your playing music and blasting audio into you head you can't hear anything anyway. I guess it depends on at what point do you measure the noice cancellation? For me it's when there is no music playing is the true measure on how well these do with noise. Anyway rant over ANC for now lol. The sounds quality is good but not as great as you've mentioned here, this is a subjective point though. The base is great as always, it's Sony's selling point but it somehow distorts the vocals. Even when you try messing about with the EQ the treble feels like you're on an airplane and you get that airy hissing noise. The clarity isn't spot on like the Bose. If the Bose managed to allow the EQ to be base punchy as the Sony that would the ideal selling headphone imo. Also one positive thing to point out the is no sounds leakage with the new Sony Mx5's which is plus point. Keep up the good reviews - I just found your channel recently.
Its great for short train rides and for work in office, but I wish it was easier to carry around. Have to strap it to a handle of my bag, since its uncomfortable around my neck.
The previous version XM4 earphones passed every sweat test while I was using them for a year. Just switched to XM5 headphones and stupidly went for a run what turned out to be a very hot day... Well... They didn't slip but they got soo sweaty inside. I got a bit scared but they still work so I guess if you don't sweat buckets from ears you should be good 😅
The first thing I noticed when I put mine on were just how light they were it’s crazy compared to my old Beats Studio 3s wireless I could wear the xm5s forever
@@Big-cc3nn is Sony connect just the app? Or is that a setting in the eq Ps. Nice pic NLE 😂 it’s my bday tomorrow can’t decide if I want these as a present. Tbh I read reviews that said they’re a fingerprint magnet don’t sound good when watching movies or UA-cam
I'll buy these when someone comes out with breathable mesh ear cups. I have had them on my xm4 and they make a world of difference! I was told the xm4 and xm5 earcups aren't interchangeable. If you can confirm that I would truly appreciate it!!!
I kind of need that type c playback when gaming and listening to music because who knows when the battery will permanently die. Great video, and I needed that information 👍.
I was checking reviews before i bought these, this was the final convincing one. I am switching from the WF 1000xm4 which have been a bit of a bother. Can't easily find proper eartips ( my left ear is the problem, no size stays in). Plus, majorly, the batteries gave up ,didn't hold any charge beyond 1 hour. A change of Varta batteries was expensive. The sound is great for me, hence the return to the same brand.
I used to have that on my XM4, but cleaning that helped (def a pain to clean on the XM5 I imagine). ALso are you pausing them manually before turning them off? I found that pausing before taking them off will not resume when you put them back on.
Great video as usual! My advice to anyone considering these would be to figure out what's important to you. I personally don't care about transparency at all. If I wanted to hear someone talking to me more clearly, I'd simply take the headphones off for a few seconds. Plus, part of the reason I'll have the headphones on is so people know not to talk to me. Lol
I bought them the day they released... I really like them except I just hate that Sony doesn't make anything compatible. Tried connecting these to my PlayStation and that was a total fail.
I had the MX4, but could never get the multi-connection to work properly. Many people had the same issue. It was a deal breaker for me, and I switch to Microsoft Surface headphones. They work perfectly between teams call and phone calls. Has this been resolved with the MX5? Have you throughly tested this? I loved the MX4, so would really like to switch back to Sony.
I know it is one year later, I don't know if you switched to XM 5 but don't do it. I have them and I'm experiencing the same issue - I want to try another pair of headphones but I don't know which one. The XM 5 are terrible when it comes to connectivity
I use the touch controls, but I still prefer the button design they had before. The touch controls are sometimes finicky and annoying. To me, it seemed like they added cool new tech, when the old way worked just fine, better even. It would be nice if they at least offered a version without the touch controls lol
I have the XM4s but I've just bought a pair ofTechnics EAH-800 and so far I'd say that they are much more comfortable, sound better (with tighter bass, great midrange and treble), have a better app and have 50 hours of battery life. I was going to go for the XM5s but took a risk and it's paid off in my opinion.
If you are using USB C instead of a wired jack while charging and listening etc you will destroy the lithium battery so much much more quickly. It is never a good idea to do this.
@@bufosp Sure. The battery will continue to re charge itself while being used at the same time. So if you are using wireless charging or a duel type adapter to charge and play at the same time then it will far more quickly ruin your battery.
@@unitychannels They do not use the battery if used through AUX. If you have say an Xperia phone or using a head phone amp's jack then you will be absolutely fine. Just on a side note some head phones that are predominantly wireless based do a better job on wired Jack (AUX) than others, might be worth looking also at the Technics A800 as an example. Hope this helps :)
Yep completely correct, constantly charging them is the worst thing you could possibly do for the headphones battery and is going to kill it's life expectancy
Nice video thanks for posting it. I’ve had mine for two days now and I am trying to figure out why when a call comes in the volume is so low I can barely hear the ringer?
How does sweat interact with the swipe gestures? My phone doesn't like moisture on the screen when I'm using it; I have a hard time imagining that I'd have a good time with headphones that have to be controlled by that kind of mechanism. Same with the cooking scenario; if you wash your hands, do you have to realllly have to dry them before trying to swipe a gesture?
Hello you are doing really great. Just had one question- Is sony wh1000-xm5 comfortable with spectacles/eye-glasses?? Does it hurt our ears ?? Thank you
If you wear them on your neck when not using them, are they cups facing down or out? Also, would really like to see you compare these to the new Senn Momentum 4 just out
There is a problem with having a phone conversation in a "quiet" environment and a colleague is sitting 3 meters next to you and talking. Then the colleague's voice will be very clearly heard by the person you are talking to on the phone. Here, the Bose 700 is still the king !!!
i can notice audio delay on xm 4 and the sound sounds too crisp and spicy when i use Bluetooth but with wire it sounds fine. It's most annoyingly noticable when playing apex legends mobile and using R-301 gun. When calling or using mic i can hear my surrounding noise or wind noise if I'm next to a fan. The sound quality goes down when you game using microphone or use it as a headset on windows or turn on mic on the Mac, it also switches to a different codec when turning on mic which u can see on mac. I regret buying xm4
well to be fit these headphones werent made for games in the first place mostly just music and working, which XM4'S to great the audio delay is apparent in most ANC headphones so you wont find much luck tbh

@@tonyramirez1112could you provide an update if they are still good for the gym? Considering either these or the Beats Studio Pro’s. By the sounds of it, XM5 are the better headphones but I’m in the Apple ecosystem so beats are useful and also I would feel much more comfortable wearing them in the gym to the XM5’s where I’ve seen multiple people say they do not stand up well in gym use.
@@tonyramirez1112 have they survived still? I live in a mediterrenean country so from spring all the way to autumn the temps are relatively high nowadays so you're guaranteed to sweat at the gym, but anc is very important to me which is why i want these specifically 😅
@@aboveaura4817 they survived and are still working with no problems. I ended up doing a body building show so they survived all that cardio and sweat. You can probably find a deal on them now
Good balanced review. Agree with your conclusions. Thanks for discussing the better clamping force on these compared to Bose 700.
I’m a huge fan of my XM5’s. They are incredibly nice. So glad I got these. My first of XM headphones 🎧 and they are truly amazing.
Do you use any apps or does it come with like different sound eq ?? What’s your fave?
I can’t be bothered using an eq and manually adjusting treble bass etc as I’m not a musician.
Wish these folder tbh lol
Do they cancel noise good
@@Ohkeh640 they cancel noise the best. Industry leading. The sound quality is great. Very comfortable. Stylish. And the touch controls are superb. The only weakness here is the ambient sound. It’s not as good as the AirPods Max. But Sony makes the best headphones 🎧
Can you please tell me are these for work/ business calls?
Also how will be these for a student in general?
Warm regards,
Joel

Why do you have so many pairs of headphones?!😂
Hahaha totally agreed on the Bose NC 700. I have one and it’s terrible for me given its high price. It feels heavy and hurts my head after not that long time of wearing. And the noise canceling is terrible as well, I have tried resetting and anything that might help in the community page. Nothing works.
Have had it for over 6 months and I am on my 2nd one due to the first one breaking (hinge).
Pros:
-Great sound quality (bass is good)
-Good microphone
-Great speaker
-Can control most aspects with touch feature
-Can use app to tweak sound to your liking
-Great battery life
Cons:
-It's all plastic and plastic breaks and this is a big con
Once my warranty is up, I will go with the airpods max due to it being stronger as apple uses metal and steel
One thing I'm not seeing being mentioned anywhere is the insane amount of audio delay. It is VERY significant when on bluetooth. If you use these for gaming, buy a decent length aux cord because it is bad. Not sony's fault really, just bluetooth slowness.
It comes with an headphone Jack
I’ve been wanting them alll year and finally got them gifted for Christmas and I’m so happy with them
I just got a pair and am amazed at the comfort, sound and controls.
This is the best review of these headphones on UA-cam and i’ve watched every one of them.
As a video creator, I prefer to use the wired connection (to avoid the Bluetooth latency). What’s the sound quality, ANC performance and latency in wired mode? Thanks! Great vid!
Latency in Bluetooth is so little nowadays
@@t.w.1672 facts
@@t.w.1672 No no, it's huge, around 150 ms. You just don't notice when watching content because the device delays the video with the same amount. But video editing is interactive, then that doesn't work.

@@CTOLARSSON wired still the best choice for quality, yes i know cable is sucks but we cannot deny it the quality came from cable connection
Thanks ❤️. I was in confusion seeing the negative reviews in Amazon. But this video summarizes all I needed to know. Thanks again.
Thanks for the great review... I've been waiting for this. I will be getting this next week and I really hope that there would be great improvements from someone using the XM4 earbuds.
The earbuds are nice, but over-ear headphones are years ahead in my opinion! Connecting to multiple devices, longer battery life, better sound, etc.
@@robertrudolf8070 Great! Thanks for your feedback.... And I thought the XM4 earbuds already sound great haha
@@notme6753 Yes XM4 earbuds sound Great but the XM5 is sounds Fantastic
This isnt like a lot of reviews, you covered some really unique topics! Thanks buddy, great video!
Just a heads up, these DO NOT have NFC, Sony removed it which really sucks.
Why would the box be a problem if the headset is in perfect state and works fine?
@@Alexandru1996_ Because when you’re done with it and want to sell, you can ask a higher price if you have the box.
@@Landoverse ooo, it makes sense. But i wouldn't mind getting something without the original box. And yes i do keep the boxes every time too.

I disagree. Those headphones are awesome but will try to take your hearing with them. They are like a fuckin kamikaze taking itself down with you
on a different context..... Mike, ur killing me with the way u look at the camera in those b-rolls and u look good with the cap on ;)
I wanna know if air pressure hitting a Allen keys bolt makibg a high pitch will damage the transparency
Even better ANC is great, but not enough to persuade me to upgrade from the XM4's.
I got a bit scared but they still work so I guess if you don't sweat buckets from ears you should be good 😅
The first thing I noticed when I put mine on were just how light they were it’s crazy compared to my old Beats Studio 3s wireless
I could wear the xm5s forever

I was checking reviews before i bought these, this was the final convincing one. I am switching from the WF 1000xm4 which have been a bit of a bother. Can't easily find proper eartips ( my left ear is the problem, no size stays in). Plus, majorly, the batteries gave up ,didn't hold any charge beyond 1 hour. A change of Varta batteries was expensive. The sound is great for me, hence the return to the same brand.
Ur way of reviewing became my fav🥴💫
What a wonderful review. Thank you for the information and the charming delivery of it 👍
does noise cancelling work when using a wired connedtion?
Thanks for this. Awsome review!
Nice video. one BIG downside for me is that the 'pause when you take them off' is erratic. For me at least.
If you download the app, perhaps you can switch off the setting.
I used to have that on my XM4, but cleaning that helped (def a pain to clean on the XM5 I imagine). ALso are you pausing them manually before turning them off? I found that pausing before taking them off will not resume when you put them back on.
Great video! Is it possible to know when the 2022 budget earbuds video is coming? I have to buy new earbuds and it would be very helpful!
Impressive video 💗
Great video as usual!
My advice to anyone considering these would be to figure out what's important to you. I personally don't care about transparency at all. If I wanted to hear someone talking to me more clearly, I'd simply take the headphones off for a few seconds. Plus, part of the reason I'll have the headphones on is so people know not to talk to me. Lol
I bought them the day they released... I really like them except I just hate that Sony doesn't make anything compatible. Tried connecting these to my PlayStation and that was a total fail.
if you have tv that has Bluetooth you can connect it trough the tv i do that with my pc ( using lg cx tv )
The earpads are removable? Sony says it's stuck on and they need to be fixed by them?
What kind of watch are you wearing?

6:18 I don't use touch controls because as a leftie, I often swipe or cover with my left, it's the same issue I have on XM3 or XM4.
That's dumb logic. A right handed guitarist works the fret board with his left hand.
@@assordante2205 But that thought: I'm a pure leftie, I guess. I play with a right-handed guitar, play roller hockey but still catches left.
@@silentrain713 I just turn touch controls off, so I'd still recommend it, just not the features.
I use the touch controls, but I still prefer the button design they had before. The touch controls are sometimes finicky and annoying.
Hey do u still like the EAH- 800
No way bro XM5>>> imo
If you are using USB C instead of a wired jack while charging and listening etc you will destroy the lithium battery so much much more quickly. It is never a good idea to do this.
mind elaborating more why?
@@bufosp Sure. The battery will continue to re charge itself while being used at the same time. So if you are using wireless charging or a duel type adapter to charge and play at the same time then it will far more quickly ruin your battery.
@@leetronix do you know if the xm5's use battery when plugged in via aux?
@@unitychannels They do not use the battery if used through AUX. If you have say an Xperia phone or using a head phone amp's jack then you will be absolutely fine. Just on a side note some head phones that are predominantly wireless based do a better job on wired Jack (AUX) than others, might be worth looking also at the Technics A800 as an example. Hope this helps :)
Yep completely correct, constantly charging them is the worst thing you could possibly do for the headphones battery and is going to kill it's life expectancy

Don't buy the M4. I just sent back 2 faulty pairs that were panned 5% to the right. 🤷♂️
They face out, but you can turn them inwards 3/4 way which looks more natural imo (and doesn’t hurt the collar bone that way)
There is a problem with having a phone conversation in a "quiet" environment and a colleague is sitting 3 meters next to you and talking. Then the colleague's voice will be very clearly heard by the person you are talking to on the phone. Here, the Bose 700 is still the king !!!
Wow..!! this is a serious risk
Don't take a phone call sitting right next to someone. Rude.
If you are sitting in a office and 3 meters away I won’t classify it rude. I will just call it a ordinary landscape office.

i can notice audio delay on xm 4 and the sound sounds too crisp and spicy when i use Bluetooth but with wire it sounds fine.
