A very worthy restoration of a very old hand cranked grinding stone,it will make a lovely display in a school of engineering for a typical example of the old ways, gets my 5 ☆ rating
You should look up the hand cranked hammer drill, I wish someone had recorded that restoration. It's nice to have these restoration videos, really let's you see how it works.
Very nice. Just a couple of suggestions. I would paint the name emblem black, or possibly a different color to make it stand out more. I would also make the legs the width of that standing edge on the frame. The standing edge is there to help keep the legs from moving, but it only works if you have a leg that fits snug to the edge. That is also why there is only one bolt. I am guessing a 2x4 is about right. Your legs will not be stable for long. Did you use that old fence post to preserve the old look? Good idea, but they are not wide enough. And last, I would bush that stone somehow so that it won't move on the axis and then dress the stone.
Great restoration, particularly the welding. Shame you did not reface the stone.
Not like it is. It will not last very long without Babbitt bearings. And the legs are wobbly - since they are not flat on the tank side nor are they shaped to the channels.
look at that beautiful patina even after cleaning it up with a grinding wheel, that's a good solid piece of iron right there, great little tool, grind some corn or whatever and sharpen a knife at the same time!
That looks really nice ! You are the only other person I know that uses MIG to weld cast iron, it is said that this is impossible as it will crack while cooling, but I have used this a lot on exhaust manifolds with complete success, now you need to make a Shave Horse ! Chris B.
Great restore! Loved seeing the metal working to fix all the broken parts. If I could as for one thing it would be electric rust removal and/or sand blasting. Thank you for making these videos! Please keep them coming they are inspiring!
Looks nice! One thing, the large holes on the top of the axle brackets are there so that you can pour Babbit bearings for the axle. There are several good instruction videos on UA-cam on the process.
Good job so please use a wire brush more strong, what you use just remove superficial oxide do not expose the metal. also is better finish if you use filling premier, one or two hands as required, and some sand paper before paint on casting
You took an absolutely beautiful and skillful restoration, and then ruined it with those ugly ass legs. They don't even come close to fitting properly in the slots. Plus now all the stress is on those four bolts holding the entire thing up. I'd have recommended notched legs to where most of the load would then be on the legs themselves.
It looks like there was originally babbitt material around those axles. I can't think of any other reason there would be such a large opening for them to spin in.
Look up a tool called a Dressing Tool. It's used to true up the surface of grinding stones on bench grinders. Maybe you could use one or a couple to true up yours? Just an idea. Anyways, great build video!
J'aime bien votre restauration ! I like your restoration ! But the screws BTR, it's a pity, there is no era !
Prahlad Das Dewkeea - it’s a bit unfair to toss that at the feet of a generation of people... the problem is that manufacturers have found more profit in making things specifically *_not_* to last, ensuring repeat business. When I was in high school I worked for an electronics repair company, fixing TVs and microwave ovens... that industry has almost entirely disappeared as surface mount electronics are not only *_super_* hard to work with, but companies design their boards to be replaced as an entire unit rather than troubleshot. *_Every_* generation has had (and will have) folk that’d rather throw something away and replace it, rather than fixing it. Conversely, *_every_* generation has had (and again will have) folk who enjoy fixing what’s broken. The _”good old days”_ people often hark to never existed and there are actually *_more_* people _making and doing_ these days than ever before thanks to things like the Arduino and those same manufacturers creating cheaper bits for the gubbins.
You might want something a little thicker for those babbit berings. And make sure theres no paint in them or the threads. Good job on the weldz though and thats a lovly choice of red.

Wow, that thing must be old one, never seen a cast iron water bucket on grinding stone machine. Your welding repair is great.
Great job but get rid of those modern bolts. And get the stone trimmed in a stone yard. It will greatly increase its value.👍

Good job, and nice welding on that cast iron.
It's amazing that the nuts & bolts wren't completely fused. Must be some of that good ol' American Iron.

... And to think he did it all without once mentioning how "IMPOSSIBLE" the restoration was!
Nice work.
Beautiful restoration job. I think it's very satisfying to bring this old equipment back to its working life! Thanks for sharing!
Merci .Thanks

That welding work was great. Really loved the repair job.
Excellent restoration , another piece of history saved
Once again going where many would just say to far gone! Fantastic.
This is the real deal! A little love and sweat goes a long way. Ready for the next generation.

If you are able to retain it your next generation will also value it, i am sure.Very nostalgic project.
beautifully restored with rustic finish. adorable!
I'm always astounded by the durability of wood.

Wonderful piece you’ve restored.🙂
Yeah very well done ,only I would use grease rather than a liquid oil.
oil spots maybe a really thick oil and just a few drops before use
Nice. Excellent filmwork too.
Impressionnant!
Beau boulot quand même! :)

Pretty damn good restoration.........

you did SO good until you used WD-40 as a lubricant. it is not a lubricant.
Wow, that is a beatiful resto! Great job!
very good work keep moving
good restored man
¡Felicidades! Está genial tu trabajo!! : )

Nice restoration. I need that to buff my car.
Good one! But your angle grinder needs a repair on cable, i saw wires.
very very nice ..i love it
I prefer it in original form. Thats the beauty of it.
Felicidades
Some primitive thread chasing there! Lol Very well done repair. A real craftsman!!!

Very nice.
Nice Job !!!
Excellent craftsmanship buddy. 🤔
That is the biggest adjustable spanner I've ever seen : D
Perfect video.
Excellent restoration. I would have liked to see the company logo restored, perhaps in gold, but that's quibbling.
J'aime bien votre restauration !

I like your restoration !
But the screws BTR, it's a pity, there is no era !
Bravo love it love it ...
Was the original color green? What wood did you guys use? It ended up looking good.
At least we have few people on earth who 'fix' something broken rather than 'throw' it away like the new generation

The most satisfying part 5:00 - 6:00
I suggest you to get some rust remover. It would save u time and preparation for painting would be significantly better.
You are still replying to comments. Legend.

Brilliant!
Tres bien, merci
Imagine it being turned to a true OD, it would be even betterer than best
Cool👍👍👍
I would use this still not just let it sit on a shelf stones are easy enough to find I'm going to try to make something similar
