Wow, what an awesome setup! Thanks so much for all of the info, I am implementing several of your ideas into MY game room (pro-sound/stage power switches, 1-foot extension cords...brilliant!). I hope to soon be able to complete my setup (there are still MANY boxes to unpack, shelving to build, posters to hang, etc.). Thank you so much for this saved my life on a few things getting an apartment soon had around 1500 saved up for the project and own everything else only needed the wires cables adapters only few last shelves gave me an idea to cutting holes on the back of the wood shelves to hide the wires and needed to learn the signal finally get to use all my systems own around 45 and a crt and 2 TVs I’ll have a similar set up but one room will be signal only just liked and subscribed keep the good work up!

I absolutely love the way you have everything set up. I'm going to need to keep this video on reference for when I'm able to put something together for myself, though it probably won't be as extensive as yours. I think I'd start with an emulation box for easy access, and use it as a sort of checklist. Start with finding the systems that match up with the emulators, and getting flashcarts on those, splitting the collection up into something a little more authentic-feeling, then hunting down the individual games themselves over time. Plus, it would help give me an end goal. As much as I think it would be fun to build up a collection, I can't see myself collecting things just to own them, I'd prefer things I'd actually use. Using an emulation box as a starting point means that I'm going to naturally remove any games that I simply don't like and wouldn't ever play when the collection grew.
I kind of liked what you did with the closet, but I think that it looks a bit odd as an empty space. Did you ever do anything with the closet space since making this video? Personally, I think I'd try to fit in more of those shelving units into the closet space itself, and use it as a bookshelf to collect the old strategy guides that they used to make. (I miss those, they had a lot of fun flavor text. I remember the StarFox 64 one had stuff on atmospheric makeup on each planet, and "historical" facts about each place. Modern walkthroughs like on GameFAQs are a lot more emotionless) Alternatively, you could try and find the various old gaming magazines like Nintendo Power or GamePro and fill the space with those. Get the full childhood experience of turning on an old game and having the strategy guide or magazine next to you as you went.

If you want a good recommendation for the acrylic display, i suggest nail polish racks. They make them the exact same way as the floating bookshelves and the rack with enough space for any handheld or game. Best part being they're cheap for the most part

CRT’s are the way to go!! I’ve got a 36in. With RF, composite, component, and S-video! Can’t play light gun games on the newer stuff. I highly recommend component cables from HD Retrovision! I have a set for my SNES, Genesis, and Master System and they look fantastic! Especially the Sega consoles!
I went with a couple black wire shelves that fit under my custom desk and it works great. I would like to find some controller holders that can hook on the front of the shelves but haven't had any luck yet.
Here’s a tip* I use a pair of door stoppers under some of my consoles. It gives it that “kiosk display” look. Also, you can get a few 9-12 outlet power bars (like ones seen in mechanics garage) and mount them along the wall.
29:00 I have no clue what problems your having, but I have a Phillips model PH61150. It has 4 inputs including S-video and one output. It requires its own power, but it will automatically switch depending on the input signal and it's worked great for me since I bought it almost 20 years ago.
I'm somewhat curious as to how you manage to deal with large power bricks for some of the more recent systems like the Wii U, Xbox 360, Gamecube, ect. I've found in my own setup that having to deal with them and their limited length is the number one thing holding back my cable management. Amazing video by the way, your original multi-part setup tour was on of my main inspirations for building my own ready to play setup almost five years ago, and it's hard to imagine life without it now. Keep up the great work!
Most of the rectangular power bricks you mention are on the top shelf, like all the other bricks. It helps to have the systems close to the top. I have one that is tucked inside one of the trays. To fix the bolts falling out of the chairs, you can use a thread lock.
That's the type of glue that is formulated to hold a bolt up to a certain force.
Thus, fixing the loose bolts problem while keeping things disassemble.
You can find it in Walmart under the 'Loctite' brand.

Great room. I like it. No surround sound system?
I won't say that this isn't impressive, because it is. My only worry here is the electricity delivery, more specifically the extension cords. Extension cords are ALWAYS a temporary solution and should never be used as a permanent one. The power delivery splitters you have are a good start at managing, but again, man those extension cords shouldn't be used permanently.

41:30 try looking for something like "wall mounted nail polish display" and I'm sure you'll find that in the results. I considered getting one for Gameboy games.
I was planning to print a row of logos on a sheet of cardstock, stick it to the switchboxes with double tape, and then just draw little arrows to the correct switch with a sharpie.
I like the idea of using logos.

Been looking forward to this video for a while now, nice work! Couple of questions about the rack mounted power supplies:
1) How does they work with your Japanese consoles? Are you plugging step down converters into the Technical Pro units?
2) Are you aware of any other brands that make similar units? Just a bit conflicted about getting them - on the one hand, the individually switched design is perfect. But on the other hand, they do get quite bad reviews for build quality, and I’ve never seen a UK-style power outlet version with the individual switches.

My Japanese systems are the Neo Geo CD and Pippin. They run fine when I plug them in. I think they just use the AC adapters. As for the power supply, I know of one other called the Eliminator E107. It's in my living room. Lots of the lights have gone out. I don't recommend it. I suggest the Technical Pro, but mod it to have thicker gauge wiring.

for the chair, the arm rests are gonna eventually work themselves loose, instead of tightening it down potentially too much, i highly reccomend using thread locker, that should make it nice and tight without loosening over time.

Thanks for the links. You can try plugging the Ataris and rf systems into a composite switch box than run a composite cable to the rf adapter. Less signal loss than the rf switch box, maybe. The CRT would be fine on the wire rack. I have a 130+ pound HD CRT on one...which is probably too much, but any CRT under 100 lbs would probably be no problem...in your case I'd keep the stand though.
My RF network has no adapters or switchboxes. Just a straight shot to the TV. To me that should be the best way. Perhaps I'm wrong.
@@HowToX I saw that. It's cool. I thought you did it to avoid a bad signal from the rf switchboxes. Just suggesting an alternative if you wanted to get away from the dangling cords.
Wow !! I thought I was the collector.. (Lol) I have nothing on your setup and Yes I watch from start to finish. My gaming setup consist of 20 gaming consoles. I'm not a fan of the bootlegs or 3rd parties takes all of grabbing the game and loading into the consoles. Wheres your Library of your games? Would like to see how you tackled that task..😁 I don't have a full room, but a area. It's my sun room, and im running out of space. You made good points in your video. I have dust covers my consoles to prevent of that sun tanning to my console, But well done you have a new sub. Looking forward to see more suggestions and input.👍

I want to set up a gaming tower in my family room with 4 hdmi consoles going to TVs in my family room and 2 tvs in my kid's bedroom. I basically want to load the game discs in the family room so the kids can use wireless remotes in their bedrooms. Do you know how this could be done? Specifically using wireless remotes in a room other than where the console is? Passing cables through walls is not a problem. Setting up Ps4, Ps5 xbox 1, and Switch in case it matters.

Do you cover any of your systems to prevent dust buildup when you're not using them? I have covers over my Saturn, Sanyo 3DO and a few others I dont use very often. My gameroom is in my basement, but I have constant ventilation going and a dehumidifier for when it does get moist down here and all of my stuff is well above a potential flood level.
No, I don't cover them. I like to be as unimpeded as possible when playing a game.

I use similar wire shelves, but not as wide or as tall, nor do I support as many systems. I trunk the wires down the side of the rear poles. It was a bit of a hassle to do it, but looks sleek. Have you ever thought of getting UV carpet panels and a UV light?
No, I haven't thought of UV lighting. Seems like it might be too distracting.

I'm a new subscriber, very nice room! But I have a question, not sure if others have asked this one.
When you are chosing a console, and find out that console has different colors, or something special that stands out from the original look of that console, how do you go about choosing the console the want? Examples: Nintendo 64 black vs. The Funtastic series colors, GameCube silver vs black or indigo, playstation 4 black or white, etc.
I mostly just get whatever is cheap and easy to find. I have the room to PLAY the consoles. Looks are a secondary concern.

They are interchangeable using little adapters.
What’s the longest male-to-male cable in your setup? (E.g. how long are the component cables daisychaining your switches together and connecting them to the tv?) thanks!
I don't know, but I make them as short as possible. The component segment that goes from the swapping area to the TV is only 1 or 2 feet long.
Have you looked into the 16 port HDMI switcher (TESmart brand on Amazon)? It would simplify your setup & allow more connections also. Just a thought. Keep up the good work, your vids are a great way to relax.

Cable management, I suggest they use zip ties for individual consoles, so you know, what cable is to what console, instead of one big bundle in my tie 👍
Awesome vid man! But can you explain how your numbering system works? Is there some specific order you have them in?
I probably could have explained it more. Basically, I have numbering throughout the room that's between 1 and 100. The lowest numbers are on the far left and they ascend as you move to the left. The 3DO is number 1. Some systems have attachments that take an additional plugs, like the Sega CD, so for those I label them as 7A and 7B, or sometimes 7.1 and 7.3. I have gaps in the numbering, which allows me to insert new systems into the setups without renumbering everything else. They just take an unassigned number. Some of the switchboxe buttons have ranges of numbers, like 1-4. I think that explains it.

Have you bought any of those power switch box things recently? I looked up the same ones you have and a lot of the amazon reviews say that they are cheaply made and almost caused a fire. I wonder if it's the newer ones that aren't any good or maybe they were made better back when you got them? Have you had any issues with yours? I can't figure out which one to get
I have had zero problems with any of the models, except for some of the switches not lighting up. My newest ones are about a year old. That being said, the last thing I want is someone to listen to me and then have thier house burn down. You will have to make your own judgement. BTW, you can mod them to make them safer, but I don't know the details about how to do it.

It’s a shame that your crt tv doesn’t have a component input. Maybe you could get a BVM or PVM to your liking at a reasonable price. You could even go full RGB Scart. :)
hi I have a quick question. My PlayStation 3 console requires a 120 volt 3 amp power cable. But I have a few 125 v 7 amp cables and a few other
125 v 10 amp cables that both fit. Does it matter which cable I use? Are those ratings only saying what the cable can handle maximum or are those numbers what the cable is actually pulling out of the wall and sending to the console once you plug it into the wall?
I feel like I'm thinking that cables are similar to car fuses but I'm a bit confused.

Is it safe to use the power splitters for systems like the sega tower of power? like for when you need 3 bricks to power a system but only want to use one switch on the power supply rack. Or should you just designate 3 switches one for each part of the system to be safe?
Make it separate. That may be too much to send through 1 switch.
@@HowToX understood so basically the sega 32x, cd and gen need their own switches? If so what exactly do you need the power splitters for the supplies themselves? How do you hook up your tower of power?
I also have a big setup (not as big as yours).
I'm also using Kinivo boxes. But my 2 PS4 (original and Blue-Pro) won't wake from sleep when connected. I have to remove the power cord.
I also have the same problem with the SWITCH. That one I un-plug hdmi and it's working.

No, I haven't had those issues, but I can't remember the last time I used the sleep function on the consoles. Sometimes the Kinivo doesn't autodetect, but that's not an issue single I just hit the toggle button.

That's too much work, but in general all the 1st and 2nd generation systems except for 2600.

Because splitting composite just outside the 2nd switchbox layer didn't work well in my experiments. It's better to split it as soon as it comes out of the system.

for consoles with ac adapters, is there any way of finding similar power cords for the systems but with normal plugs. so that you would not have to use those extension cords?
Not really. Those large plugs convert AC to DC. Newer systems do that on the inside of their shells.

The original odyssey isn't compatible with my TV? I should probably test it.

I wonder why you don't get one of those USB charging stations for the minis, those usually have about 6 USBs on them . they're smaller and can be hidden away easier, and you can just use the switch on the rack mount that and you don't need a whole power strip for a few USBs

It's good to overprovision USB power supplies, otherwise if they're being used for a long time, you could heat them up. I had a battery that would take 8 hours to charge over USB and it would make all USB power supplies that use 2 amp or less heat up, even though it's using the rated power.
Cool, I might get one, but I need to see if there is one that has more than six. I need closer to 10.

Monoprice used to make an 8-port HDMI switch, but it looks like you can’t get them anymore unfortunately.
Someone has pointed me in the direction of a 16 port one from TESmart. I'm looking into it.
Do you ever notice its a problem to run say 6 out of the 9 switches at once. Like I copied your setup exactly so I have my tv and one system running at a time. My only concern is when i have the 32x,cd,gen , and then the tv running is that ok for the power supply? Is the only concern I should keep in my is to only have one device per a switch but that it doesnt matter how many switches you have on?
I would not feel safe running that many things at once. I advise spreading it out amount multiple rack mounts. I myself don't run my TV power through the same rack mount as the systems.
@@HowToX cool, that makes sense, I got the american dj power supply rack mount cause I liked the red buttons more lol. However it says not to use more than 10 amps per channel even though its rated for 15. Should I have any worry or do most old systems not exceed that?
Also do you keep your tv on its own seperate supply ? Am I just better off keeping the tv off a powersupply and plugging directly into the wall?
