So nice to have a reviewer that you can trust to honestly evaluate a product by calling out the strengths AND mentioning any weak points. Thanks for putting in the work Dave! See ya for the next one. By the way, I burst out laughing when you said "mind y'rn" (I'm in South Alabama about 80 miles from the Fla. beaches)
I have been wanting to get a grow light for my Hoyas. Thank you for the honest review. Love the "mind y'rn" I'm from extreme North Georgia since everyone thinks North Georgia is Atlanta. 😂
Yessss! And I lived in Mauldin, SC for several years. I've been down to your part of the country many times, and well know those two things ain't even the same 😁
You’re too funny!! 😂 I used Wildferns code for the older model but I will absolutely be using your code for the newer one! ( No hate to Fern I’ll use her codes again too) Nice job once again Dave!
Thanks Dave! I need that tripod lighting. It would fit in my large South facing bay window. That way I can aim at the plants hanging and the plants all across and reach the ones on the radiator in front of the window. My husband will probably have a fit but... I gotta do what I gotta do! 👍🏽Dee, NY
He'll adapt. You'll make sure of it 🤣 I cannot tell you how difficult it is to demonstrate that product (so I gave up.....) but that's exactly how I intend to use it, more or less. Down, up and over or something 😁
Yep! One hanging grow light misses the plants to far right and left on the sill and those hanging so I have to keep sliding this big light to cover all the plants. But yep, hubby will adapt...
I have used Sansi lights exclusively since I started my new indoor collection. I couldn’t be happier. I use the clip ons with 2, 3 & 4 10 watt bulbs. I can’t imagine a more expensive light would have a better effect on my plants. They couldn’t look better. The downside of these bulbs is they do get hot. If the new ones don’t, that’s a huge plus. I’ll look into the new bulbs. FYI: My new phalaenopsis are both pushing out flower spikes 😃
Yay on flower spikes! I feel like mine started so late, and that the ones in bud are taking sooo long pop, that I'll have phal flowers all summer 😁 As for the heat of those older bulbs--no kidding they get hot. Which is why I didn't immediately think that bulb I had was defective. This new one is a massive improvement, thankfully.
@ That’s great! Fortunately, I don’t have children or pets to worry about being burned & I know better than to touch them. Been there done that! 😥 I’ll definitely be replacing these at some point. I think they last forever though 🤷♀️

Hi there. Love the channel. Thank you for all the amazing information. I have many grow lights with a few being 10w Sansi. What would you say your typical ppfd is for Hoya? Rosita, Compacta, Linearis? I check ppfd often using a Apogee ePAR meter and average around 150-200. Thank you
Nice! Rosita can get up there, like the ;00-350 range or higher. The rest I’d keep right where you do. My plain green carnosa is at 80, and loving life there. I’m sure there’s exactly zero chance that it’d ever boom, however. Cheers from Iowa City 😊
@@soberplantguyquestion about propogating Rosita. Have you propogated these by cutting and laying the cutting horizontally in coir? At the leaf joints there are roots and was wondering if horizontal would be as effective. Thank you Cheers from New Hampshire
@@mrb100679 You will have no trouble with this as long as you keep up the humidity. Many people use moss to accomplish the same thing, but I'd rather cut off my pinky than deal with that rooted nightmare 🤣
This is very interesting. I could use some Sansi's in dark spots. I have all my 200-ish plants in my small office and using a fixture w/ 4 - 4 ft long full spectrum tube bulbs from the hardware store for years. I just realized they're the same bulbs since 2012! They are super bright. I also supplemented them with 6 all-in-one 4 ft tube lights from amz that were marketed for garages, but they look great, very sleek. They too must be full spectrum, wouldn't buy otherwise & fit perfectly horizontally on the front of my 4 ft shelves pointed to the back, so plants are front lit, daisy chained & have white light, which I prefer. My plants seem totally happy, except for neglect ;)
In a previous version of this video, where everything I recorded had me out of focus (but not to worry, the background was crystalline 😆) I mentioned the myth of "normal lights won't work." What utter nonsense. But, that was left on the cutting room floor because I was very tired by this version of takes 💤

I gently wrap the vines counterclockwise *on the way up* and then loop the freely on the way down--no need to twist those. Then repeat the process on the way back up. I hope that was the question. If not, let me know!

That tripod looks nice, but yeah, my crazy 7mo old GSD mix puppy would knock that down in nothing flat. She's a psychopath, I tell ya. Somehow, my Barrina mini greenhouses are still standing though. So, there's that. 😂
@soberplantguy I wish someone would've warned me. Haha! To make matters worse, she's mixed with most of the giant breeds like Great Dane, Mastiff, etc so she's going to be huge. I don't know WTF I was thinking. I've had tiny dogs my whole life and now, I've got this monster sized one. 🤣
I feel that the amount of difference between this and a good quality everyday bulb does not justify the price difference, I wouldn't call them "overpriced" because I do understand that costs associated with creating products for the smaller market but for the average houseplant keeper they probably aren't worth it. Also, I definitely prefer 4000k over other temps for the apparent brightness, colour accuracy and aesthetics of that clear but slightly golden sunrise-colour light. I definitely wouldn't refer to it as "cool" but as a "warm-neutral" since it's still warmer than midday daylight being ~5500k, cool light is 6000k+ and often just looks too harsh and grey for my liking. Also, if an everyday bulb doesn't tell me its CRI then it's usually a no-buy for me.

Upstairs however…… I use whatever is good and affordable, so I will definitely take this recommendation for whenever something is needed there 🪴
Ditto, ditto, and ditto 😆 Only warm, gorgeous lighting allowed in my living room/plant porch. Cool lights go upstairs during the day, and that works great.
