I've just got one of these and I was pleasantly surprised by all the maintence items it came with. now I have more work to do and more things to spend my money on!
I've done this a few times now on my wife's 2013 C30 (auto trans). It comes with the wing nut from the factory, I guess to make it "easy" on us. ;) After doing this a few times I've found you can do it with out removing the accelerator pedal. You have to go behind the pedals with the filter, compress it in a way that it kind of springs back into shape once it's in place. I have to replace ours about every year and a half to two years because it gets really smelly almost like rotten fruit. It's probably because the car is parked outside in the driveway.
Agree, I've done it in the same way. I've never remove the Gas Pedal, just because on Volvo Romania Club are a lot of complaints about the car not starting up after the pedal reassembly. So you better have a VIDA diagnostic hardware prepared to save your ass, or do it without removing the pedal :D.
Bolt isn't missing, the newer P1 cars just have a single wing nut installed in the middle from the factory. Older models will have one 7mm in the same spot. It can be done with the gas pedal in, but either way is no fun
I thought my S40 was quite easy to work on. Except for this. Replacing the alternator, throttle body, and repairing the AC clutch were all easier jobs. It is a FoMoCo part, so curse them for thinking this was a good idea.
For RHD, it's still a headache to replace. To get access to those bolts, you'll need to remove the passenger side fuse tray beneath the glovebox. 1. Lower the tray by loosening the two wingnuts 2. Disconnect the wiring harnesses from the fuse tray, remembering which colours go where. Most have levers to release and replace them. 3. Maneuver the fuse tray forward out of the bracket so it is no longer in the way 4. Optional: Remove the bracket by removing the two nuts. Now you should be able to get to those three bolts holding in the cover to the cabin air filter
Each time I change this stupid filter I hope my wife will get rid of her C30 before I have to change it again. It's a nightmare design! Her former Accord took 10 minutes and it was all done sitting in the passenger seat. Thanks for posting this, because this time it only took me 30 minutes! Of course, last time I lost one of the brake pedal nuts, so I saved time there.
This only took me about 20 minutes but I had to bend my body into ways i didn't even know were possible. Give it to volvo for always making our lives a little harder 🥲
Hardest job I’ve tackled in years! RHD model, had to unplug ecu and drop it with little improvement, car has full dealer history but it appears that this filter has never been changed, I wonder why? Kind regards from Scotland 👍👍🚗🚗
I wished you'd given more detail on the filter such as dimensions for fit. What are the alternative choices? Cheap to expensive and availability at local canadian tire?
Unfortunately, we would not be able to recommend an alternative for your Canadian Tire. We would recommend removing your current filter if you are trying to find dimensions on it, something we do not typically cover.
Thank you for posting this video ! I was able to change this filter in my V50 in about 20m...funny, the factory volvo air filter was in there backwards, with the air flow pointing towards the engine : 0...really volvo?
the engineers really could not figure out a way to make the cabin filter accessible via the passenger side rather than the driver side so we wouldn't have to mess with the foot pedal? oh well.
Is this what makes the air smell like garbage? I was almost going to sell this heap of sht car I’m gonna try this. Thank you mate. The smell is driving me insane
Yes, it's the debris that is in there composting that smells. Clean and spray some cleaner at the fresh air intake as well before putting in the new filter.
@@gertahnstrom784 I fixed it thank goodness it’s running and smelling beautiful now. Bought this German aircon cleaner from parts shop expensive but worth it. Spray in vents on low fan aircon on. With cabin filter out. Took a few weeks but am very happy now. New filter back in.
I replace that filter once a year and some of you don't know that exists??? What maintanance are you doing to the car? I change the oil and oil filter at every 10k km, and all the other filters (cabin, diesel filter, air filter) at every 20k. You are not doing maintanance?
It's supposed to be a wing nut. There is a special place in hell for whoever designed this car and decided to put the air filter behind the gas pedal. I replaced my air filter without taking off the pedal and it was a giant pain in the butt.
Cabin filter is one of the easiest replacements to do yourself
Volvo engineer: Hold my beer
I think its because this chassis shared a lot with Ford Focus of the time.
I've just got one of these and I was pleasantly surprised by all the maintence items it came with. now I have more work to do and more things to spend my money on!
Thanks tremendously! I'm ready to take it on now with my 07 c70.
"'one of the easiest to replace." what a pain for such a simple thing.
It doesn't look that hard... There are a lot of cars that need to removed the glove compartment and is also not easy.

First thing you do is swear at the engineer who thought this up.
My 2010 has the wing nut thankfully.
Glad to know its not a random 1 off! We had hoped it was an update that was meant to be there lol
Mk5 Golf requires no tools & can be done in literally 30sec. This is insane!

Thank you so muck for this ! It's a PITA on those models but so much easier when explained clearly. Greetings from France ;)
Glad it helped! Les salutations!

Very informative, can you show how to fix a leaking 2008 V50 washer tank?, Thanks.
What would be in volvo engineer's mind, may be haven't got paid on time

Well explained and your camera work was excelent!

Do you guys have a video of clutch replacement on Volvo P1?

Would a dirty filter effect AC performance ?
Absolutely! A bad filter can impede the proper airflow through your HVAC system.
I just did this absurd job on my 2010 V50, and I had the same single white wingnut.
Thank you for posting this video ! I was able to change this filter in my V50 in about 20m...funny, the factory volvo air filter was in there backwards, with the air flow pointing towards the engine : 0...really volvo?
yikes 😂
Same here I just removed from my 2005 s40 it was a genuine Volvo facing towards the engine. Maybe it’s the correct way?
You really think that that was the factory filter, after all these years? I change mine once a year. Maybe it only was replaced with an original one.
@@amthevision8931mybe it was replaced with an original one.
What a PITA. Most have never been replaced because of this.
Mine has no trim button on the carpet you pried off..
Has to be one of the worst designs for cabin air filter placement in any car. What were they thinking? 🤦♂️
They were thinking "Ahhhh most people completely forget about these things anyways... lets just bury it!" 😂
Thanks for the video!
Our pleasure zz wang!
thanks for sharing...
I'm assuming this is much easier for RHD cars?!
No it's worse as you need to remove the cem
Yes it is
Thank you bro
Tell me it's designed for the RHD market without telling me it's designed for the RHD market
Whoever desgined this at Volvo should be prosecuted for stupidity,
Who ever design this volvo car is super genius!!!!😣

I’ve just done this on a RHD car in the U.K. Be grateful you have it on the drivers side. Never again
@@fanfeck2844 it is a small car. How is it more difficult though? There shouldn't be anything in the way in your case right?

It’s way harder on the first gen Mazda 3
Aren't they same platform? I remember that one being a total pain in the butt too tho. Haha.
@@2WhiteAndNerdy yes they are the same platform but the placement is different for engineering reasons
Thanks so much
