After 2007 they changed the method of securing the cover. Instead of 3 screws, there is only one screw that goes in the second (middle) hole, and it is possible to fasten or loosen it by hands because it's like a plastic butterfly screw. If you want to upgrade to the butterfly screw, it has partnr 30780788. Highly recommended! Still the same amount of work to reach to the filter, but those stupid little 3 screws take another 3-5 minutes to fiddle in place, that one butterfly thingy makes life a little easier down there. In my own V50 (2005) i installed that screw, my C30 (2008) has the same cover as the '05 model, but just with one screw. The holes for the 2 other bolts are even present, but not used!
Really can't understand why they make it so difficult. Changing the filter on my 2009 V70 is even worse. Terrible job. Thank goodness it doesn't need changing very often
ma'am plays golf taking the headlight out is very simple it’s 2 metal pieces to pull out and then the whole headlight will come out so you can easily access the bulbs in the back of it.
Good video. I want to give you a tip. We had the same car but in the S40 version. If you change the cabin filter a lot of times, like you showed you have to get your gas pedal out. But those 3 gas pedal bolts are welded, at some moment they will turn with the nut. So you will never get the nut out or put the nut back on. Because if you turn the nut, the bolt will turn too.
Those bolts that hold the pedal on eventually just spin. And they were installed from the front before another part of the frame was WELDED ON. I own a Unicorn (06 V50 awd T5 M66 manual) and my only real gripe is this. My dad (old school mechanical engineer) is toying with the idea of shooting some high strength/low viscosity epoxy next to the bolt where it emerges and down into that inaccessible area to make the bolts static once again. This is about the only fix we have come up with. Any other ideas? Im open. And yes. This is THE WORST cabin filter replacement in the history of cabin filters. Don't blame Volvo. The swedes didn't do this. Blame Ford for selling Volvo to a chinese company. They did this.
@@brionburkett2754 Hello. You can try to tighten those turning bolts back as much as you can. If 1 of those 3 bolts hold tightly it should be okey. The gas pedal will stick on its place. Then use the standard thinn white filter that is bendable. I did it this way. The hard black carbon filter is not usable in this case because you cannot fit it in the housing with the gas pedal stuck in the way. Hope this helps.
@@brionburkett2754 - This ridiculously dificult cabin filter replacement has nothing to do with Chinese companies or any other racist claims. In fact it has more to do with Ford UK "bean counters" than anything else. This is a car with a normal left hand steering, but from a project of a right hand steering... Get it?! Main reason why you have to remove the pedal. On the original project there would be no pedal in there to begin with. ;-)
Why is this so hard? 😂 this is where I miss my Kia, cabin filter in the glove box... but so what... now I own a Volvo! It doesn’t matter how difficult they make it, since it’s possible to remove my v40 2017 head light in 1 min 😂
Thanks, about to do mine, RHD, so only fuse board and bracket to remove. Extra bonus for me is no 3 x 7mm bolts, just 1 butterfly bolt to expose filter. Still looks awful to do. Thanks Volvo LOL
UK RHD models have the filter access on the passenger side. It is not easier. You have to remove the carpets, fuse box carpet cover, unclip the fuse box, pull the fuse box out, remove the fuse box mounting bracket, and then you can access the filter cover. You have to stand on your head to do it, it's a very tight access route.
I tried to change my filter on S60. I actually gave up after a half hour. There is a fuse box inside with a clip on top which is almost impossible to get to. So much work to change a filter.
Hi,i am going to change my one, thanks to your video..any video or idea, where is the conector for the CCM(climate control module) or relay?is a v50 2.0,any help?

Nice video! Could you make a video on your xc70 how to remove the starter? And maybe show how to clean the connections on it. I have a problem with the starter on my xc70 2014 d4 and suspect corrosion on the connections.
Maybe there is a possibility to replace the filter on the other side like in the V70/xc70 with no screws? I hate replacing this filter on my V70 but Im getting quicker every time :-)
thanks so much for this video! super detailed and helpful! question - did you disconnect the battery before removing the accelerator pedal? Does the car throw fault codes after disconnecting accelerator pedal with battery attached?

Will that not be the original filter that you removed? I find it hard to believe that the filter would have been changed by the previous owner, given that the mileage covered by the car is so low. But yes, changing a cabin filter on a V50 is a real pain in the ass. You would not want to have to do this too often. Good informative video as always though.
wow, what a horrible design by Volvo, well, not really, I think Volvo wanted to get a MAX Air induction and that was really about the only place. Acura/Honda puts theirs on the passenger side, but you do not get the air flow power like the volvo ... I like how the Acura/Honda/Toyota have easier replacement access ... No doubts on that . I like this guy's video, very clean spoke video.
First I tried without removing bottom panel - no no :) after almost an hour of swearing removed it and then was able to remove that damn pedal. Volvo engineers, why not make filter insertion from passenger side? :)
Probably, the most complicated replacement of the cabin filter :) Good job.
as usual , very well made, with good tips/advice. i was an auto technician for 30 years. you maintain your vehicles to a very high standard.
Wow! Your clip was EXACTLY what I needed. 👌
Tomorrow morning I'm going down to my garage to replace my cabin filter.
Thanks for your guidance!! 👍🏻👍🏻
Glad It was helpful
Wow - I thought my RHD Volvo Xc60 was awkward, but his is a lot of work for a serviceable filter. Thanks for another great video.
I've done both...XC60 is much easier.
Best tutorial with good tips. Other tutorials does not explain it so well (I was missing the 3rd. Screw of the pedal). Thanks a lot!
Excellent video, thank you! Completed this job today. Total PIA, but this video made it possible

Shame on volvo for making this so difficult

I totally agree. On my old Saab 9-3, it was much easier. You just removed the windscreen wiper panel, and you could change the filter with one hand.
Even changing a bulb you have to take the whole light and housing out

OMG, what a difficult position!
More work on v50 to replace the filter than the XC70 but the filter slides better here. Good job!!!

30secs lol
Me encantan tus vídeos, explicas con una exactitud que nos dan ganas a todos de tener un Volvo
It's actually a ford focus mk2 unit, they used the same part, exactly the same procedure on the focus.
Coolant flush, and coolant hoses replacement, I like to see that.
Happy I have a 2009 C70 RHD. It’s so much easier to replace without the gas pedal in the way. 😊

I believe this is a Ford design since the Mazda 3 also has a difficult filter placement as well
This is a more straightforward job on P2 and P3 Volvos since it is located on the other side where there is lots of space.
Why didn't Volvo put it on the passangers side? This was so hard to change. I struggled so much. Thanks for the video!

before installing the new filter one could treat the evaporator with a cleaning spray first.
Miss the XC70 vids...😉
Coming!
Hi,i am going to change my one, thanks to your video..any video or idea, where is the conector for the CCM(climate control module) or relay?is a v50 2.0,any help?
RHD will remove more easier. It is a same design as my Ford Focus mk2 which use the same Ford parts in Volvo.

Is the drain from the ac also on that side?
Thank you! Thank you! 🙏🏼
Not forward to this. It’ll require a lot of swearing, I believe 😬
Fajny ten Focus 😂
Hello volvosweden, nice video! Where to find which parts I need an how much Nm for the screws?
Maybe there is a possibility to replace the filter on the other side like in the V70/xc70 with no screws? I hate replacing this filter on my V70 but Im getting quicker every time :-)
Tell me how to replace it I’m looking to do mine soon. Please?
@@Alexander_l322 Find the video where he replaces the cabin filter in his xc70. Maybe it can help.
Marcin Szeiba I will thank you
I don't think I could ever do this. I'll have a mechanic do it. What is the interval for this replacement ? Oops too lazy to read the driver's manual😂
Slightly easier on a RHD car 😜 I suspect the cover is screwed in as that’s how Ford do it on the Focus the V50 is based on.
On a RHD Volvo P3 which side is it on?
@@user-zc7gw3us6l Passenger side. It's still a very awkward job, lots of electrical stuff in the way.

No need to disconnect battery. Jay don’t turn ignition on or start the car.

Nope

Headlight remove 10 seconds , cabin filter 10 minutes. Typicall volvo issues 😀 ps. C30 owner

May i know how to contact you personally, i have the issue with my srs airbags modul, dtc code SRS-U300000
Job that takes 3 mins on most cars takes half an hour on v50. Shame on volvo for that :/
From memory RHD on my XC60 is easier.
Wow that's a poor access design. 5 minutes on a honda civic
