I save the plastic sleeve that decks come in from most online sellers. Put the deck in the bag, fold the edges of the bag over the edges of the deck. Put a bit of tape on the back (graphic) side of the bag to hold it snug. Trace the top graphic with a sharpie. Cut it out. Slide the grip into the bag and trace the hole with sharpie. Cut the hole in the grip just a bit larger, maybe a 1/4 inch. It helps to re-trace the outline again just going a bit bigger. Spray the top of the deck lightly with hardwood floor cleaner or glass cleaner so the grip can be moved around a bit if needed. Smooth out the air bubbles, and hit it with a heat gun or blow dryer. I just did the Salba "Tiger Hand" deck and did orange grip with a negative tiger stripe pattern, meaning that the voids in the grip make up the black tiger stripes. A bit involved, but it turned out pretty sweet. I used the above method to account for the circular top graphic. If you have a top graphic that needs to be oriented a specific way, make sure you cut it correctly. Some Santa Cruz decks run diagonally across the top of the deck. If you cut right to left on a graphic that runs left to right, you're going to feel dumb. Ask me how I know.
Nice job. I made the mistake of trying to use clear grip tape on the top of a Vallely deck with the same top graphic in this video. I wouldn't recommend it, unless you are very careful about not getting any air bubbles under it. With black grip tape, you only really have to worry about big air bubbles. I got the Mini Logo clear grip tape. When I put it on, it had a ton of small bubbles and looked pretty terrible. I tried peeling it back to remove them. It screwed up the graphic and started peeling off the paint. I think cutting around the graphic like they did in this video is the way to go. I ended up re-doing it with solid black grip tape and covering over the top graphic, which is a shame, because it's a cool one.
There is no proper skate wax. Most skate wax is literally just paraffin, which is candle wax. Just buy some cheap candles that aren't "chalky" like the dollar store tea light candles.
Yep, you trace the design on the sticky side of the tape, then you can stick it to the grip and still see the line through the clear tape and make it easy to make the perfect cut out shape. 👍
@@tacticsboardshop Ok, yeah, I was going to say, definitely don't stick very sticky tape of any kind of the graphic. It will pull it off and screw it up. That happened to me with clear grip tape when I got air bubbles under it and tried pulling it up. Obviously, packing tape wouldn't be as sticky, but, I would still be careful of it.

Mob clear grip has tiny holes to prevent bubbles.
I've been sharing since the 80s and never figured this out until now! 😱
I’d like to know how to make a proper skate wax
Lean sk you can melt some crayons or use a candle

@@skaterdudeprodutions don’t forget to use some vegetable oil for better grind slide
I added this to my favorites and am featuring it at the top of my channel page.
Thank you so much!!! I used this method last night on new Andy Anderson deck and it came out amazing!
I've been trying to think of how to cut out a circle in the grip to show the penny logo through. This gave me a good starting point, thanks.
worked well! gotta be patient as hell putting the grip on
I used a blank piece of paper to copy it down and draw it on the grip, but that's way better haha I should try it next time
I just gripped my board damn
this is so cool
Could always remove the grip and get new grip but I just did the same... next time For me I guess
Thank u I really appreciate it dawg I really needed this lmao
I was about to do something so much stupider. Glad This exists.

"SKATE & CREATE" 🛹💥💨🤘‼️
Pretty cool little trick. Just as easy to use a piece of see-through paper. But if ya dont have a piece of transparent paper, this would be perfect.
Badass. Thanks So much.
u guys are nice
Which deck is that? Love the blue dip and red
It is a Powell Peralta Per Welinder Nordic 80s re-issue. It's a fun and nice deck for skateboarding.
I got confused. Did he say to draw graphic with the marker on the sticky part?

Now you see my dumbass thought to cut out on the grip tape side
Fkn genius

Oh.......that's how you do it.....😅
Noice!
how do I get an image to stick under clear griptape
wheres tim
Taco sent me
Jeeperz keepers cheap..😵😸👌
Just use a piece of tracing paper ffs.
Packing tape might make it a little easier as you can stick it to the grip tape so it doesn't move while you're cutting it
Disappointed y'all didn't grip up all the black on that graphic
Stupid comment
Jessup griptape 🤮
