Fuser is the latest VST Plugin from Mastering the Mix and with it; mixing and mastering have never been easier. It has a number of great features including detecting and removing frequency masking and frequency collisions automatically, showing you how to balance the gains of multiple tracks and what phases rotation is the best for any two tracks to allow them to be the loudest they can be!!
The latter is a feature is something I don't think we've ever seen before!!
It's a lot. Joshua Casper got a sneak peak of this plugin delivered by non other than mastering engineer and CEO of Mastering the Mix, Tom Frampton. Tom is an absolute legend and allowed us to record their conversation and the demo at large and release it here as a video for you all.

We are in 2023, we need more options to choose, especially for the mixing in the Box category.
Congratulations Joshua for bringing young talented people from Mastering the Mix!
Useful tool for today's tasks!
Didn't take this seriously until he mentioned phase rotation - now I'm listening
wow, the phase rotation algorithm seems to do a remarkable job, making this plugin very unique. Great addition Plugin Boutique!
Phase compatibility is sooooo important to bass, but is usually a task that is either a button, or very minimal amount of control outside of "Off/on". That feature alone hits heavy.
I was super impressed too!! - JC
totally. super hyped about this feature. i’ve been waiting forever for an alternative to sound radix pi 🎉🎊🍾✨
Phase rotation is a nice touch. Sets it apart from Trackspacer which has been the best iteration of this idea to date.
Good comment
U forgot iZotope Neutron, more advanced than Trackspacer. This Fuser seems even better because of the phase rotation thing, hoping it's not too expensive... Otherwise I'll stay with Neutron, already game changing ;P
I didn’t really vibe with Neutron’s implementation of it. Always felt too thin at the end even using a very small amount.
@@KeenanCrowI feel the same exact way
I’ve found decent results sodechaining vocals to the beat+ vocal fx sends to the beat(illangelo did this)
im sold. This is awesome! and a lot cheaper than I anticipated too!
I bought all their plugins and I find them amazing.I don’t really care what some reviewers say, I care about what the plugins effectively do.
It is cleaner, but the bass disappeared in the rock demo. Listening on Genelec 8350a in measured and treated room.
It took away too much of the bass, but perhaps they could have tweaked the settings some more. When viewing the kick portion of the video, I can see It does have a lot of other controls that can be adjusted so I'm still very intrigued by it
Yep, listening in HD650, the Original mix have a lot less bass
Once I focused my ears on the bass using my 7506s, I could hear the removal of bass!
I noticed a clearer mix, with less bass energy, however use your ears of course, there is a mix knob you can just blend until you get a good balance.
Seriously, this looks and sounds AWESOME! This has got to be in the running for Plugin of the Year!
It is great!!! Agreed! - JC
Hmmmmm.. Def will try the demo me thinks... Ive been loving Trackspacer... Due to its simplicity and results.... But the phase implementation has me interested.
Love this ❤
I love this Plug-in. Just in time for my next album.
Love that!! GO GO GO!! - JC
Great explanation! Thanks so much.
Glad it was helpful! - JC
I downloaded the Trial for Fuser to try things out for myself, because I was really curious if it's really that good.
I produce Electronic music (Techno), I had a Kick/Bass Group which I already nearly finished on a Track to try FUSER on.
It has 4 Layers, 3 Kick Layers and 1 Bass Layer to create a Solid Foundation, I allways have kinda a lot of work to Balance things out.
I used FUSER as shown in all Tutorials and Set it up on 3 of the 4 Channel, and also mapped the On/Off Button for all of them so I can hear the difference.
And the thing is I literally hear absolutely no difference when FUSER is on, even though it detects clashing frequencies and does "visually" a lot of work. But I dont hear any difference, not even on 3 different pairs of headphones or on my Monitors (including Sub).
Are you setting up the side chain properly? i just tried it and this thing was awesome so i bought it
Nice review Josh
Thanks! - JC
Love the phase rotation, what about different notes? they rotate at different speeds, is this gonna create issues?
I wonder if this messes with mono compatibility as it dynamically reduces frequencies in a mid side configuration which in my mind would mess with the stereo image and mono compatibility.
is the trail fully funcional ? for a 15 days or 30 or how the trail version works ?
I love Tom!!
We love Tom too!! - JC
Just purchased and this is causing FL Studio (latest version) to crash when trying to analyse the phase rotation.
Anyone have any ideas why or how to fix?
So I reckon this comes in real handy while mixing vocals on two trackz!?
When I tried this it made to turn the bass way, way to quiet. Don't know if this is a frequency bug with 808s?
Unless I really focus my ears on the singers, I wouldn't have heard any difference. It's extremely hard to hear on my 7506's ... I'm thinking of upgrading to NDH 20s or DT 770 250 ohm (which do you prefer?)
Can you swap out the side chain for the main signal to see which sounds better? What if I want the Bass Guitar to duck out the bass drum? and in other frequencies as well (e.g. Guitar, Keys etc.)
Easy. You simply sidechain to the selected dominant instrument. So bass sidechains to kick which is the 'dominant'
What the heck.. Man, I need this.. lol. Thanks for sharing.. This is cool.. Like Izotope but seemingly better.. Neat plugin..
I'm curious...isn't this basically the same tool as Neutron 4's unmasking feature? Or Trackspacer? Or Soothe in side-chain mode?
the only difference imo is the phase rotation thing
Fuser is crashing Ableton 11 when I use the Auto Phase Correction feature. Also read that the same feature is crashing FL Studio, Pro Tools, S1 and Reaper.
EDIT: I found that by increasing my buffer size in my DAW, Fuser stopped crashing during auto phase correction. After the analysis, I just put my buffer back to where it was.
Thanks for this PSA.
Tom is a wizard
agreed! 100% - JC
Why not have it auto adjust the focus of where it's going to process?
On my Apple earbuds the muddy version sounds fuller & nicer with more warm bass. I prefer that to the clean version. (haven't listened to it on proper speakers yet)
I listened to it on my Kali In-8s and the reference (unprocessed) version does sound better. But I guess he's just showing us what you can do with it if you need to. Whether or where you should apply it is up to you, right.
🔥
🔥🔥🔥 indeed!! - JC
The trial download process is EXTREMELY slow and Frustrating. Mastering The Mix's installer FREEZES for 20 minutes after you press NEXT after selecting trial software to install. It will then proceed to download the first product, then HANG for 20 minutes. It will repeat the download / HANG for 20 minutes for each product! WHY????
lol, is there a cheap controller hung up on your wall in the background at the beginning?
could the auto phase rotation feature be used to automatically align drum kit mics? would you theoretically use one drum track as the target then put fuser on all the other tracks and match the phase to your chosen target track?
Different sort of "phase" - to fix that you would need a different plugin like time-align or some such
could you explain how its different?@@timspencer1
@@jakeskate1998 Out of Phase where a recording on multiple mics don't match up - like on a drum kit. You would need to "shift" or delay the signals until they match. Of course these are typically Mono signals that you would blend in a mix and pan to taste. Or you could invert the phase of one or the mics so their waveforms match. Yes - you are right of course - they are the same thing technically - but doing this on a variable, non-transient wave like a stereo synth pad throws up all sorts of problems and the best fix is to adjust the panning - in my experience.
fuser isn't in their complete bundle though ?
Have you guys tested this with FL Studilo by chance? I couldn't get the side chaining to pick up. Also, it crashed the DAW when I tried to use the auto Rotate feature. Amazing tool though if I can get it to work :)
Crashes Ableton Live 11 also.
EDIT: I found that by increasing my buffer size in my DAW, Fuser stopped crashing during auto phase correction. After the analysis, I just put my buffer back to where it was.
@@akeyunturned3580 awesome. thanks for the update
Pi by SoundRadix has been doing the auto phase rotation for some time now.
Good shout. I'll have to check it out! - JC
I m not sure about, is it something like Gullfoss??
Why is my version of Fuser missing the side chain option in the top right corner?
That's part of Logic Pro. What DAW are you on?
Reaper DAW crashes every time I try the Rotate feature. :(
But, how does he recognize the mid from the side conflicts from the conflict graphs?!
Red is mid. Yellow is side
I have trackspacer it' doses the same thing.
Is there any reason to even get RESO if you get FUSER?
I mean yeah, RESO gets rid of nasty frequencies in a sound. Where this is just making space for fighting sounds in a mix
Anybody else having trouble downloading the pluggin after purchase?
Hey there. Sorry to hear about that. Did you purchase on Plugin Boutique? - JC
Woww phase rotation filter
phase rotation crashes cubase 12 Pro after the analysing process
Yes, also crashes Ableton Live 11.
EDIT: I found that by increasing my buffer size in my DAW, Fuser stopped crashing during auto phase correction. After the analysis, I just put my buffer back to where it was.
is this like. soothe alternative?
Better than soothe 2 trust and even better
Automatically do it
I'll never forget this dude's face when Kshmr come to the show and started talking about drugs
Pi does these things too
If I activate side chain, Fuser crasht my Cubase 12!
I have my doubts, yes sounds so much cleaner but with no bass push!!!! is not about cleaning up something if you will lack your bass...is about cleaning without losing the vibe and intention of the mix.... can Fuser do that? maybe, have to try it and see, the phase rotation must be cool...but a plugin to telling me at which volume has to be my instrument is really stupid, you don't mix that way..... .... I rather prefer a mix a bit muddy but with the energy of the bass...that a "Clean mix" with now bass! I hope the Demo sucks and the plugin is cool.....and if that is the case, the demo is doing a disservice to the Plugin.
Sort of nice but made the song sound thin.
phase option keeps crashing my DAW
Wondering why the dev hasn't responded to any of these crash reports? Crashes Ableton Live 11 as well as a few other Daws when using the auto-phase feature.
EDIT: I found that by increasing my buffer size in my DAW, Fuser stopped crashing during auto phase correction. After the analysis, I just put my buffer back to where it was.
@@akeyunturned3580 i will try that
It basiclly does what Trackspacer does...
yeah but the phase rotation is not there in trackspacer which makes this a go to for kick and bass specially !
It's hard hearing its benefits when producing electronic music which is mostly beat-oriented, light on vocals and uses no guitars so I'll have to find a vid that uses Fuser with this particular kind of music. No offense intended (tm).
This sounds like another magic bullet that promises to fix and disrupt the world of music making...but will turn out to me a waste of time and money
I have to look into this a little more can you download a demo.
OMG that’s awesome! Let’s connect?
