Does Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehydrated Live Up to the Original Game?

- This one was a game I was really looking forward to re-experiencing again, and just in time for the holidays too! I wanted to revisit Rehydrated for a video on my channel seeing as how influential the original game was on my life back when I was a child. After releasing my first video on the original game, I figured it was only fitting to come back to the remake now that my nostalgia rush has died down from the excitement of the remake's initial release. Does Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehydrated still live up to the original, or is it more inferior than I initially realized?
Also, getting to show off the F.U.N. Edition of the game in this video was something super cool that I really enjoyed doing. I hope you guys feel the same way, and if there are any future suggestions for ways I could implement more live-action segments when covering games by all means let me hear them!

This remake always struck me as them (not with the devs themselves, but the restrictions Nick most likely put on them, as we have precedent to believe) pretty much doing the bare minimum.
Like, the graphics are better than the original by virtue of the time that has passed, but they're considerably less polished and many minor elements like the cutscenes transitions just aren't as fine tuned. And it feels like such a missed opportunity to not fix things like the Joe Whyte voices.
And sure, that doesn't change how fun the game itself is, but I'd probably much prefer going back to the original because I frankly find that the better version.
It really could've been so much more.
The clothesline move requires you to double jump to doge the arms and legs. It’s pretty stupid, since you would think double jumping would result in hitting the arms. It goes against your instincts as a player, especially if you’ve played the original

It Spongebob Logic.
I do feel like that they rushed the game out to coincide with the Sponge on the Run movie (even if the movie ended up being delayed and releasing later on) but for what it is, they did an alright job being faithful to the original (even if they kept the Clancy Brown impersonator instead of redubbing Mr Krabs properly).
If you feel like doing more unboxing videos, then I'd say go for it. Also, NRFB for life!
I think they ruined the dream areas by having them all have the same basic skybox, kinda ruining the surreal dreamlike feel of the dream levels. It's also missing a lot of little details like tikis no longer exploding into pieces for whatever reason. All the dreams are bright and cheery now with a bright sky. Really feels a lot less satisfying in certain ways.
It should have been a real chance to take time developing it, instead of Nick rushing them again.
Loved the live-action segment of the video. Hope you do more such segments!
I think the missing line from the squidward’s house thing can happen because it’s possible to accidentally skip the line when you’re mashing the jump button, I know because I got the line to trigger for me when I played it myself.
Was coming back to your channel to watch the original BFBB vid but found this. Remake is amazing and I don’t care if it’s got glitches and bugs, I just love being able to play it with better graphics

The reason the Thunder Tiki keychain is brown is cause that was its original design in the remake but it was changed to be more red in the final after it got criticism from fans. Because of how merch tie ins for this sorta thing are handled they probably didn't have time to change them to reflect their new color scheme.

This video was pretty amazing and I say this game is really great.
The original version is still one of my favorite platformers of all time...Many kids had Banjo-Kazooie, I had this! For any SpongeBob-loving kid, it was truly the gold standard for a game based on our favorite cartoon. It was released at just the right time, it was well-designed and felt just like the show. The game just worked on so many levels! I've been thinking about buying Rehydrated for a long time. Considering I sadly no longer own the original game, this is as good an opportunity as any for me to re-live the BfBB experience after so many years through this remake. But from what I've seen, some of the aesthetics just aren't the same. Like the boss battles are much less epic-looking now, and warp boxes don't animate when you jump in them. It's the little things that matter, y'know? Still, I won't discount that the whole package looks great, and Bikini Bottom has never looked better! And the fact that they bothered to remake the classic game at all came as something of a pleasant surprise, let alone actually do a solid job of it.

I never played Battle for Bikini Bottom during my childhood, granted it was my brother's game and he has the right to tell me no if i wanted to play but still.
I do plan on getting the game on my switch when i get the money and see for myself how i would like it. I've always wanted to play it, and now that it's available on the switch I'm excited. Though I'm still angry that the Mr. Krabs impersonator is still there, but that's something i can kinda look past.
I haven’t played this game yet but I do love the updated graphics but I do agree that from what I’ve seen some of these changes seem to lower the excitement like the boss battles.
the different voice actors always threw me off,BUT IT HAS THE SPANISH DUB!! THAT MADE MY ENJOYMENT 100 TIMES BETTER!
Unboxery was neato was, but, I'd say don't feel pressured to look for excuses for IRL stuff where there's nothing worth it.
I have the rehydrated version of battle of the Bikini Bottom that is the remake on the Nintendo Switch and I love it even though it's hard and frustrating with the robots, I love the graphics and it's very nostalgic to the show and for me and I'm stuck at the king jellyfish part and this game is only Spongebob game I have I don't have the others and I never played the original. Also I love the toys that look so cool and I love the unboxing part. I love the video and I hope you do unboxing stuff for the Pokemon games if you do play Pokemon I do. I don't have those toys and I love the socks you have from the box.

If i remember correctly that Bubble Bowl Spinners didnt spin when you hit them more then once in the Original as well

10:25 Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't you supposed to hit the bubble bowl spinners on the other side?
Like you're spinning it clockwise to bring the platform down so since the platform can't move in that direction anymore, neither can the spinner. You'd have to spin the spinner counterclockwise.
Yes I think it does. Shame they took out little quirks here and there but I think the game does exactly what a remake should do: modernized a classic. The graphics were really the only thing Rehydrated needed to update as everything else was perfect the way it was. Well except Joe White as Mr Krabs and Mermaid Man. They should have hired someone who could do a convincing impression of Clancy Browns Mr Krabs voice and someone who could do Ernest Borgnines Mermaid Man voice
I would've bought this game (if for nothing else, the FUN edition's figures!) if the scrapped content had time to be added.

This game looks way better than the original, especially in the graphics! They don't look to weird, unlike the original graphics in the game!
And the overall animation looks so good! And good of the staff to reuse the voice lines in the game remaster!
The one thing I was hoping from this game was some sort of inclusion of content from the "sequel" to BfBB, the movie game, like alt costumes from that game like the Goofy Goober versions of Spongebob and Patrick or Glam Rock Spongebob from the final boss of that game.

I do gotta say, I think the unboxing should be at the end or in a separate video. It’s ok, but felt disjointed from everything else. Could be that I just don’t watch much unboxing vids, nice cat tho!

This is why I no longer trust reviews because game journalists seem to be made up of people who don’t play video games but rather took the job because they think that reviewing games is easy
