I bought the Kimber Micro 9 Raptor a little less than a year ago. I love it. It’s a really nice looking firearm. It’s so light that you don’t even notice that you’re carrying it. My wife is trying to take it from me. This was a very good video.
Thanks, Anthony! I've been carrying an Sig P365 with a Wilson Combat lower (pretty cheap to add). I feel like the Kimber is just too pretty to bang it up carrying every day. I probably need to get over that!
@@quinnjim I don’t carry mine either. Lol. I would be pissed if it got scratched up. I have a set of new black grip screws with o-rings arriving today. I actually carry the G23 Gen 5. I love it. Plenty of power, same footprint as a G19.
Hey it's Jim on your gun post. I did retire from one department and then sold guns for a couple years before I got bored and went back to work at another PD. I did sell a lot to commercial pilots for the cockpit. I am a Colt 1911 guy, but Kimberly are okay. You are right about having the gun fit your hand. That is the most important step in picking one. If you can manipulate the weapon well, speed and accuracy will come next. I've seen what the .380's can do, but your also right about picking the 9mm, especially if the gun is the same size. If you have any questions about guns feel free to contact me. I have used many over the years in my capacity on SWAT and as an instructor. My duty gun was a 1911 and my back up was a small revolver. C Ya, Jim.
quinnjim Same here except I have seven of them. Actually I only shoot five of them. The safe queen is a 100th Anniversary Colt. I bought it to compare with the gun my uncle carried in WWII and Korea. The rest are gun I carried on duty and only one is fancy because I carried that one as a detective. I have a bunch of wheel gun including the one I went to the academy with. I know that dates me. The others are shotguns, AR's and my favorites, a pair of Garrand's. I bought a Kimber once. I gave it to my brother so he would stop shooting my uncles gun. I can go on but you get the picture. Be safe, Jim
I saw you pointing out guns that "YOU do not want" Yet the raptor is virtually the same, just different color scheme really. Love my bel air! I did consider the raptor, but for me the Belair won the debate. It just boils down to personal preference really. And yes, I love the feel it has in my hands. I needed a concealed carry, as my 1911 was a little big for that 😂 😂
You definitely have every right to get whatever gun you want. Some folks like the .380 much better. The guns that look like toys seem a little problematic, but I guess they can be kept out of the hands of kids (like any other gun). Thanks for watching/commenting!
The Micro 9 has a 3.15 inch barrel. The Micro .380 has a 2.75 inch barrel. I believe that the slide has to be a little thicker on the Micro 9 to accommodate the more powerful round.
I tried to reply to you but it did not go out. My question is do you prefer this gun over the same brand revolver six shot 357. Also is your wife, Kristen, I think is her name,a pilot and does she enjoy flying. I enjoy all of your aviation quinnjims fishing, guns etc, etc. As I said once before, you have done a great job teaching Maddie and Quinn. I;m the guy who replied to you on one of you and Quinn flying the J-3. I flew 10hrs in 1943 in Wichita, KS in the aviation cadet program. Billy H, Barkley
Great gun, i picked up one myself, with 3 extended magazines, i liked the micro 1911 style and the all metal gun, heavy in the hand, just feels great when firing with a nice re-coil... btw, you were shooting with one had at the red target but showed us a nice grouping on a green target .... so i guess you missed the red target and had to borrow someones green target!!
No. The one handed shooting was just so you can see the gun firing. That’s the best I could do when alone at the range. The green target was two handed shooting at 7 yards.
my wife is 5 foot tall 90 lbs and got the 380 its about half the recoil of my micro 9. She can shoot 9 just fine but at 5'2" 100lbs her little hands get sore after putting 200 rounds of 9mm down rage. With the Underwood Xtreme Defender Fluted Monolithic rounds I don't see it losing anything in a self defense situation. Those are some crazy rounds, perfect penetration and expansion for self defense
That makes sense if the 9mm is too much recoil. I always think of 9mm as being a very tame round, but I guess for a person half my size it's a different story!
Absolutely beautiful. That's my next Kimber to own, coming soon. I have a Stainless Target II in 45acp and a Aegis Elite Pro in 9mm. Hopefully order my Micro 9 Raptor in August. If not by Sept. What did you pay for yours if you dont mind saying
Bill14886 The MSRP is just under $900 (I think). I picked this one up on Gunbroker for $625 ($670 with shipping and my FFL transfer fee). I own dozens of guns. This one is definitely in my top 3. You will love it.
It depends on the state. In my small plane, I usually check the laws and carry if they allow it. The airlines don't allow me to bring personal guns on the plane.
@@quinnjim I understand about state laws. I was concerned about the actual airport you are landing at. If I am legal in the state would I have a problem at the FBO?
@@quinnjim Thank you I am working towards a bucket list item, getting my Pilot Certificate. BTW the Micro is nice. I would also guide you towards the Springfield EMP 4” CONCEALED CARRY CONTOUR 9MM. Nice reliable and compact enough to conceal anywhere.
The 380 is the same caliber as a 9mm Smaller grain wt. bullet. And 1 or so grains of powder difference. Either way ballistics are negligible at personal defence ranges. So slightly smaller and easier to hide. Would be the reason to buy a 380 over a 9mm.
Gel tests I have seen showed the 380 to penetrate 9" while the 9mm went 18". DOUBLE the penetration. The difference between these rounds is significant. The size of the Kimber Micros doesn't change much between 380 and 9mm. My opinion hasn't changed.
So.. through a body is better than expanding all energy in the target is now better. Like i said "at personal defense range." Either way my go to is a .45. Cause its better than both of the aforementioned calibers.🤣 For target, sport, 3 gun, the 9mm is definitely superior.
That was no light recoil. A rapid fire would have missed the target completely. Also, this gun was not especially “thin” for a pocket gun. This model would be a good holster style gun for belt, ankle or a woman’s purse.
I think the black bottom of the extended magazine is ugly so I would only use the flush mag, but the biggest issue is the extremely low capacity. It's too low for CCW, having so few rounds can get you killed if you get into a shooting with more than one armed criminal. Good review though and nice little gun.
I've virtually never seen a proper explanation of "good hand fit" in any of these long winded "gun porn" videos. My grandfather had huge hands; played semi pro baseball without a glove. I'm pretty average, so I have to wonder if ANY "Hand Cannon" would be a fit for me. When the poster describes "good hand fit" you have to 'splain what size your HAND is!!!!!!!!!!! obviously, I'm asking too much.
We do planes, vehicles, and a few firearm reviews. I haven’t posted a firearm review since 2017. I’m putting together some more aviation themed stuff in the near future.
The K6S is a LOT more powerful, but this gun is sleeker to carry. Hard to choose! Kristin likes flying in planes, but doesn’t like to handle the controls. Thanks for watching!
Well, I'm holding mine in the video. I've shot several Kimbers 1911's. I had a really bad experience at the range with one years ago. That kind of made me suspicious about the brand. It was having multiple failures to feed and failures to eject. It barely functioned. I lost interest in their 1911's after that. Maybe I'm being unfair, but it was junk.
