Hi, everyone. We noticed that there is a brief loss of audio at 18:41. No, we weren’t censoring Hakeem :) Here’s what is said: “And the other thing is, is that they’ll pass by things that will attenuate light”
The explanation of speed of light was brilliant, I enjoyed so much that I listened twice. I would say the whole episode was great even without my favourite co-host Chuck. Paul was better than ever, with the right balance between comedy and knowledge.
Two geniuses and a comedian talking about astrophysics and cosmic realities for an hour makes me that much more learned and the day that much more interesting!
Dr. Oluseyi just made me realise how hard it must be for Neil to simplify astrophysics to us in a way we'll understand. The art of dumbing down is not easy
As Charles Liu once said... (paraphrasing) "Call it smart it down, as people have different levels of expertise in all topics". As in no one is dumb, just throwing my two cents into the internet.
Dr. Oluseyi is one of my all-time favorite modern scientists. I've watched him throughout the years on many shows, and he's always been entertaining and knowledgeable. You definitely need to have him on the show more often. And, OMG, Dr Os story about the f at the end of a word and changing the th to an F is spot on for the Southern US. When I was in the military we had a guy from Mississippi named Smith. We called him Smiff or Smiffy because he never could pronounce the TH at the end of a word. Instead of calling himself Pvt. Smith, it always sounded like Pvt. Smiff.
The segment at 28:57 is AMAZING! I've broken down AAVE to people many times and it's a hard concept for someone (who is not immersed in the culture) to grasp! Dr. Oluseyi breaks it down eloquently. Thank you for this ✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾
All I heard was 2 very intelligent people explaining complex concepts in a digestible manner. I got about 10% of it....got to rewatch a few times. Lol. I really enjoy these talks. I learn so much in a short time. Thanks and I look forward to more.
Educational and extremely funny - love it. Hakeem needs to be brought on more often. Too bad they forgot the second part of the speed of light question, would have loved to hear about that too.
Wanted to hear what Dr. Oluseyi was going to say about what the inprecision of the cosmic background radiation is when trying to determine the age of the universe, he does a very good job of explaining things.
Outstanding, smart, and funny big brains... I'd love to hear more on this talk of fields, waves, and the space-time medium. Like Janna Levin's talks on black holes, it's fascinating. :)
Nothing like listening to an astrophysics 'podcast' at 1am in an outdoor hot tub in the middle of February on a cloudless night in Eastern Europe :D Great stuff!
I'm usually happy to watch videos like this to improve my theoretical knowledge about scientific concepts (I hate numbers), and to let my curiosity wait and settle, but I bought Dr. Oluyesi's book on Kindle. Dr. Tyson is amazing at breaking down concepts into easy, relatable pieces, which I love - I left science class behind over 18 years ago. However, Dr Oluyesi speaks at my speed even if I know I don't understand the numbers, I get the ideas. Thank you, Doctorate Professors both, and I'm curious about the muted moments....
You also explain your thoughts well. I'm in even greater discomfort with the math of such ideas so must look at the theory, itself, and ascribe value. My theory is that the Universe is an illusion, created by waves of magnetic energy in electron groupings, happening within Tao. My page has video of me explaining the idea but I don't want to intrude on Dr Tyson's page. I mostly wanted to point out to you that Dr Tyson's lead comment fills in what we missed.
Can you please have Anton Petrov on the show for a full length 🙏 he is big now and I would just love to see him and Neil talk !! Love this show- from the beginning.
I love StarTalk so much! I look forward to new episodes every week, I’ve learned so much over the years! Also, I think it’s awesome Neil has stargazer lilies on the desk behind him! 🤩
I was worried this might get be too dry, without Lord Nice, until the nighttime mission to Sol. After I cleaned the coffee off my screen I really enjoyed it.
I really appreciate Dr. O's input, I feel like he DOESNT try to dumb it down too much for the average audience which is nice for your audience who does have a decent knowledge of physics (which I'm guessing is a good portion of your audience anyways) and the people who don't have that basic knowledge are here to learn anyways and not have everything dumbed down for them. Just my take 🤷♀️ of course there's an uncertainty there in my audience estimates lol 😜. Anyways, thank you! Would love to see Dr. O as a regular!
Great show, great to see Hakeem again... thanks for educating the masses about such a broad physics spectrum, tyvm to everyone behind the scenes that makes these so beloved
I just love every episode with Paul Mecurio, I greatly enjoy Chuck's humor but Mecurio simply seems like a more mature and competent person who understands and remembers the subjects, and he also does his homework like when he read that entire book about animal behavior and remembered more of it than Neil just for one episode :)
Mr Tyson, I'd love to have you on my show to discuss the science behind assimilation by borg nanites in Trek canon. It would be a great topic that I believe you could shed alot of real world science upon. Thanks!
_...even though you know A LOT--you don't necessarily know EVERYTHING--but because you don't know EVERYTHING, it doesn't mean you don't know A LOT ..._
hakeem is the best!!! iv seen him many times on space documentarys..so happy to see him on star talk!!!! very genus explanation for the speed of light...love it!!!! this was a fun stratal:)
What a brilliant, precise and modestly comical dance through the known and the unknown. And despite Dr O's living with the accusations of making his students dumber, knowing the limitations of our knowledge is the best wisdom we can hope for.
Also loved Hakeem, definitely bring him back again! “Erf”, I love it ! Create economy to the language! Is that 2 much 2 ax? Works great for texting, less characters! Nowhaimeen?
I’ve been looking into Eric Dollard’s view on the sun and it’s very interesting. There is no fusion in the sun, nobody really knows how it works. It’s more like a transformer, transforming energy from some other dimension, the view of that transformation shown as the surface of the sun. The fusion we think of is what happens in the arcs. He explains it way more elegantly but it’s a query I am diving more into.
I feel like I could have an amazing conversation with you Neil. I'd love to talk sometime, I share MANY of your views on the universe and our common ancestry.
Paul is sitting in the exact same spot and in the exact same shirt as last time he was on. Did you guys somehow pause time for Paul to keep him available? lol
Hi, everyone. We noticed that there is a brief loss of audio at 18:41. No, we weren’t censoring Hakeem :) Here’s what is said:
“And the other thing is, is that they’ll pass by things that will attenuate light”
Thank you so much! :) For a moment I thought there may have been some top secret info there lol
Yeah thanks for that info!
The explanation of speed of light was brilliant, I enjoyed so much that I listened twice. I would say the whole episode was great even without my favourite co-host Chuck. Paul was better than ever, with the right balance between comedy and knowledge.
Thankyou now I can die in peace ✌️
And I misspoke and said, "380 million years ago," when I meant, "380 thousand years after the Big Bang," when referencing CMBR recombination.
Two geniuses and a comedian talking about astrophysics and cosmic realities for an hour makes me that much more learned and the day that much more interesting!
Geniui of geniuses😂
Only I white dude would ask this
love it!
Loved Hakeem on the show, please bring him back often !
We'd love to!
Agreed

Can we have Hakeem and Chuck as the permanent two co hosts I am laughing hard through this entire episode. You guys are awesome.
I prefer Hakeem. Two super-smart physicists in one room, and both funny!
O men this would be awsome
It was so good seeing Dr. Oluseyi again! I remember him from the TV series, "The Universe". :)
I remember him from the show “Outrageous Acts of Science” I would’ve loved to see Neil on that show
Dr. Oluseyi is one of my all-time favorite modern scientists. I've watched him throughout the years on many shows, and he's always been entertaining and knowledgeable. You definitely need to have him on the show more often.

Hakeem is a gem! Grinning from the start here to have a good time and share knowledge!
I really love this channel. Thank you for educating people in an entertaining way, I love what you do Neil.
Thank you for learning with us!
This is probably one of favourite episodes so far. Absolutely loved it.
Loving Hakeem on this episode, great communicator like Neil ❤
Love the show , Paul , Akeem and of course Neil . Needs to be 1.5 -2 hours long on the cosmic queries grab bag edition
The segment at 28:57 is AMAZING! I've broken down AAVE to people many times and it's a hard concept for someone (who is not immersed in the culture) to grasp! Dr. Oluseyi breaks it down eloquently. Thank you for this ✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾
Paul Mercurio is my favorite co-host comedian.

Educational and extremely funny - love it. Hakeem needs to be brought on more often. Too bad they forgot the second part of the speed of light question, would have loved to hear about that too.
This series is very important for humanity, thank you Neil. 🙏🏻
Wanted to hear what Dr. Oluseyi was going to say about what the inprecision of the cosmic background radiation is when trying to determine the age of the universe, he does a very good job of explaining things.
the BMR is inaccurate and so is our interpretation of its data.
I love the energy from this guy y'all should have him on the show again
Hakeem is back! Yay 👏👏👏
Thank you, Neil and Star Talk, loved this episode, talk was brilliant. 👍👍
One of my favorite episodes in a long time, I really enjoyed Dr. O and the social chemistry between the 3 here, gotta have them on more often please🙏
Outstanding, smart, and funny big brains... I'd love to hear more on this talk of fields, waves, and the space-time medium. Like Janna Levin's talks on black holes, it's fascinating. :)

Startalk and chill. There’s not an episode i haven’t watched and I keep going back to the old videos until a new one pops up. It’s very wholesome.
Mr. Oluseyi`s idea about inspiring a healthy self skepticism about what his students know, and what they do not know do not know, is quite compelling.

Hakeem u should have read the book bro! Love this episode. I will follow you any where u go!
I was worried this might get be too dry, without Lord Nice, until the nighttime mission to Sol. After I cleaned the coffee off my screen I really enjoyed it.
Great show at Durham last night
I’m delighted to start my day listening to very smart people Dr. Neil and your guests always leave me a bit more knowledgeable, thanks again.
I love this long videos because are really good,i am sad of not having enough time to watch it several times
Not sure if you know this but this is the video version of the podcast StarTalk
@@comofue192 i know, but i don't pay attention to podcast as much as videos and looking the expression of their faces and so on
I like that Dr. O prefaces so many of his explanatory statements with "y' know"...even though...y' know...we don't.
31:42 I have always had that idea in my head, I'm glad someone brought it up!
32:15
Word.
From a question, to acknowledgment, to agreement and possibly even disgust, word is rather efficient as well.
Ask two astrophysicists the same question and you'll get five different answers. Love this show! 🙂
Great video! Loved the discussion
Loved it. Bring back hakim
Amazing episode! Keep looking up!

Hope to see Hakeem Oluseyi again!
Awesome video! Watched it before work today. Thank you for doing what you do!
SHIGAGA!!!
This guy is awesome.. was great to see Paul on too!
What a great guest, Dr. O
Can't believe I missed this episode originally!
Raed Hakeem's book and LOVED IT!
it never gets old love learning from you all the time and its fun
Another great one, thanks!🙏
Glad you enjoyed it!
Hakeem is so engaging. I hung on his every word!
Sure he is mature and competent, except I never would have guessed he is a comedian. Must be his off day.
@@mikeontherock I'm happy it's his off day. There's usually too much comedy getting in the way of useful information.
@@toby9999 to each their own. Have a great day.
@@mikeontherock Humor is broad. He seems more of the dry, witty type. The joke on the star lying about its age was smart.
I always look forward to these videos.
Very informative and equally as comical,... great segment guys ...yo Nupe aka Doc O.... keep shining 😎
This show makes my day and genuinely betters my life thank you for all you do Neil! Please never stop. Dr. O was also fantastic here great episode
this was really fun!
Fun episode, loved it.
My dream TV show would be a science road trip with Neil, Hakeem and chuck.
I remember watching Hakeem on Outrageous Acts of Science. Loved watching that with my kids.
Interesting audio gap when talking about sending secret messages using gravity waves...
Haha yeah, i guess you'll only know what he said if you boost the bass on this video and put your woofer on full blast.
Its just poor editing from the spotifiy full episode. I listen to it last night.
Glad we have access to these brains
His biography was super good, i couldnt put it down!
Finally, my favorite topic returns, quantum!
We're glad this one's right up your alley!
This was a particularly great one! Even without my fav 2- "The Chucks"!
Why doesn’t Hakeem have a channel or podcast… seriously. He’s awesome. I’ve seen him on all the science shows… he knows how to do it. :D
Mr Tyson, I'd love to have you on my show to discuss the science behind assimilation by borg nanites in Trek canon. It would be a great topic that I believe you could shed alot of real world science upon. Thanks!
Keep looking up ☝
Super interesting episode!
18:41 why is this part muted?
Thank you for bringing that to our attention! Working on the fix now.
I loved this episode. Bring them back definitely.
Man.... would have loved to have Chuck Nice on this episode ❤️🖤💚
So great to watch ,listening and learning from you and laughing about your " deep jokes " ! Great stuff guys !!!!!!!

what a great way to start my day!
Thank you gentlemen for a hilarious discussion of strange things that totally confuse me. Have a good evening all.
I love this guy, Dr O.
How do we get to ask question on this show? Do we type it in the comments or is there a specific site to ask questions?
They have a Patreon where you can submit questions
I want to see Hakeem again, he's good
hakeem is a great guest, paul mercurio is funny but i would LOVE to see hakeem and chuck together!
When Hakeem talks I want to listen - he is infectious, is he related to Eddie Murphy, so similar in his mannerisms
Excited Hakeem has a Dynamically Beautiful Brain ♡
Hakeem is great. He's so animated and intelligent. Great combo!
Is it true that we learn more when having fun? :D :D :D
Best science podcast on youtube

Hakeem is scary similar to the guy from the animated movie Soul, even his life story has some similitudes
Damn on point I knew he looked familiar!!
@@jasongreen1015 watch the movie then watch the first StarTalk episode wherr he appeared. Impossible not to feel 4th walled
