Can’t wait I’m picking up this exact CVO in 2 weeks. Been riding sports bikes for 20 years. I’m so ready for this change. The CVO has been my dream bike for the past 2 years can’t believe I found the exact one I wanted. Best CVO color scheme ever IMO.
19 SGS vivid black, new was half price of a CVO . New S&S 2 into 1 w/ghost pipe, stage 3 cam plate and oil pump with all the things that go with it, 475 cam and custom tune on dyno . Labor and parts less than 3500. Absolute Beast ! Love it
My Street glide special came with the Rockford fosgate speakers and the flush mount cap and it was 25800 I don't see anything on that CVO that's worth forty thousand and I got an $800 seat from bad boy cycles
Just bought the 2022 Street GLIDE ST, W WEEKS AGO got all the quality of a Special plus the 117 from the CVO W/O Paying all the extra $$$ put on the Road Sofa seat. This is the bike I was wondering/waiting on. Just a flick of the wrist and this thing lays right over into a corner. Awesome performance and handling. The Milwaukee 8 /117 is a beast of a motor w/o any extra work! GunshipGray w Bronze Wheels. Just looks like a Stealth fighter sitting still! As well as waiting to disappear down the road
Also, RDRS is included in cvo price but added to the specials price. You also get included in cvo price is premium bike cover, wireless headset, internal radio antenna, and luggage bags for quick loading, in addition to all the visual goodies you mentioned.
I got the Great White, just like the one in the video. I put slip-ons and retained the heat shields, sounds better and still looks stock. No tuning required... Also realize the CVO will always be worth more to the bank. If you get a special and spend $10 grand on it, you still just have a special ... you'll never get that 10 grand back. Great video! 😎👍
While most of the video was rich in information, I still think it could do some work. The CVO has an adaptive daymaker, those extra lights light up the ditch on the high side when you lean. You briefly touched on the added security features. The key fob locks/unlocks the saddle bags AND the ignition/fork lock knob(if you have the knob in the locked position). There is also a lock and unlock button next to the knob that does the same, but only when the fob is present. The comment about a $40k shifter, can easily confuse people into thinking a special is not designed to accept the heal shifter if purchased separately. Not knowing what parts are metal or plastic, working at a dealership? The 117 is not just more displacement and a breather, it has different cams. The video came across almost like you were trying to down play the upgrades and differences of a CVO.
I got a Street Glide Special, I changed the mofflers, put an inside anthenna, replaced the crank cover and handles for about 1000 dlrs. and looks awesome!!!!! I can care less about bigger engine, I am not a performance rider.
I have a 2018 CVO RG gunship gray, a "CVO exclusive color" turns out in 2022 you can get gunship gray in like 4 models. So definitely my next harley will not be a CVO. I'll spend my money on extras for the special.
I can understand your frustration with the paint being brought back for 2022. But your bike still has so much more. Color match wheels, 117 engine, all the CVO trim upgrdes (and there are a lot), tank badge that is still the best on CVO in my opinion. Side by side, your bike still kills the new one in the looks category!
I sold my 19 Street Glide Special in 2021 and bought a 18 Road Glide CVO. Besides changing over to Road Glide I wanted to use the CVO as a baseline to make it my own without starting at 42K. Most of us that have bikes that ride them still change them anyways regardless of the starting point. I do think the Specials are more friendly to value and customization. Personally I think if you are going to paint a Special and would be happy with a CVO paint scheme that is available that should be enough to decide. Nice entertaining episode.
Good video, I have a CVO but I bought it used so it had everything I wanted, bars, pipes, etc... already done with only 5,000 miles on it so the extra cost was worth it. Otherwise, I would take your recommendation and by the special then customize it to my preferences.
I have a 2021 CVO Limited. I replaced a 2004 Ultra with a lot of miles that over the years I easily spent 20K in engine, suspension and design upgrades. And when I went to trade it in…it was just a 2004 Ultra. So I think that is a huge part that everyone misses. The CVO retains all of the value as it came from the factory that way. Upgrading a base or Special bike you loose 100% of the $ you put into it. Now if you want your own custom bike that’s fine…but you are throwing that money away on trade-in or sale. For me I have other Harley’s that I can continue to customize. For this touring bike…she is ready to go as is and looks great!
Another point is that with the extra money spent on the CVO all the parts are now able to be financed and insured in case there is an accident all the extra parts are being paid expenses are covered by the insurance or able to be financed with the bank
it fun to customize so id get just get special, limited or ST model then change the cosmetics like seats, exhaust, lights etc... not a fan of stretched bags so i myself leaning towards limited or ST. made the tourpak detachable cause its nice to put helmet in.
I just bought a special I like it . Black jack metallic. Very nice riding bike added klok works wind screen 12inch bars, facsia strips on the back and a lepera custom seat.
Dammit man! I was looking at the 2021 Blacked out Gauntlet Grey/Vivid Black Street Glide Special…. Now you have me looking at the 2021 CVO Street Glide! thank you 👍🏼 🤣
I have done this both ways. Just bought a RG CVO Limited. If your going to keep the Special stock then that should be your pick. Remember the options you put on the Special have absolutely no resale value. My experience is that I recover more of the investment with the CVO. The limited gave me much more in value that the CVO RG. Twin Cool engine with lowers, Tour Pak ( I make that removeable). better heated seat for long rides to mention a few. To add this later is impossible or major $$$$. Harley has many selections as their are many folks with different tastes. Great review, well done.
Back in the day the CVO might have been worth it when they had the lowers with the speakers in them. The fact that you get a 117 vs a 114 is comical. Nominal difference. With a CVO you should be getting the 128, nothing less. Back in the day a CVO arrived and basically you should not have to change anything to get an upgrade because it was the top dog. That is not the case anymore. In 2017 when I bought my special they had just moved up from the 103 to the 107, but the CVO was a 114. Since then the special is now a 114 but they have only gone up to a 117 with the CVO. The special is catching up to the CVO with them doing downgrades on the CVO and upgrading the Special at a faster rate.
A lot depends on your budget. I do like that red paint. The main changes I'd make be to add driving /passing lights for night riding and a heated seat/ heated grips. Would T bars block the mirrors? I'd also backrests.
I have the 2019 CVO and wouldn’t even consider comparing to the standard streetglide…, the added benefits are so worth the extra dollars! Central locking has been a god send, heated grips are divine, custom seat definitely adds that extra bit of comfort for the long hauls, lowers with the speaker! These are only some of the benefits that caught my eye. In saying that, my hubby’s streetglide special is a beast but the dollars he has put into it he should have just bought a CVO 😂😂😂😂😂
All or most of that comes standard on Indian Chieftains, Challengers, and Pursuits. Even if you get a limited or premium package Indian, you get way more for you money and still a lot cheaper than a CVO.
@@saltshower That's funny, since they were the first motorcycle company in America. Not sure what playbook Indian has taken lately. I'm just glad they didn't copy the horsepower or lack thereof from Harley LOL.
Cvos are definitely worth it if you love everything about it. My lady has the blacked out cvo trike and imo it's a better looking bike than majority of the custom trikes running around
Another great video. Two great bikes. The special with aluminum lowers just doesn't make sense. Why does HD cheap out like that. The thing cost almost as much as an Ultra. The CVO's are sick though. Also I prefer the matte inner fairing.
I guess a resilient coating is not possible BUT it’s really disappointing how much the fork legs pit no matter how careful you our How resilient is the black finish compared to chrome
Here’s the thing about the “missing $13,500”, first- Cvo- means from the frame itself from the factory, EVERYTHING Is assembled by the cvo team (only a handful of Harley mechanics) from paint code to the engine placement. Second- Harley throws everything into cvo’s that year has to offer (sound system-boom) rims, all sorts. Third- Every dealer with a performance section/ race section, (ie- Ford, they have the raptor, the Shelby line, etc…).
i hate the metal seat emblem cause i had a 16 FXDL and when u take off fast and you push back into the seat you get a solid butt punch from it and its not nice lol i was sooo happy to change out seats, i believe i ran with the emblem taken off and just a hole there for a while then got my lucky daves seat.
CVO for sure. I’m on a Street Glide Special denim black with only 32,000 now and I’m 72 yrs. Old now, so my next one will be a 2023 so I’m waiting for new colors because I’m not into the colors this year
I have a CVO Pro Street Breakout. I don’t have a bagger yet. However, when I pull the trigger to buy a bagger it will be a CVO. There is something different about riding a CVO. If you have the money buy the CVO. Resale we know is for sure is high and you won’t see the same bike that you ride over and over.
First, I don’t have enough money for a CVO yet. I’m hoping to be able to afford one when the 120th anniversary comes around. I’ve always said I want one, but I ride too much for it to be my only bike. It would have to be a second bike that I only ride sometimes in perfect weather and not too often.
I tried the below mounted RV mirrors when I switched to a KST 12” bar….…..they looked good and as you said the lines are cleaner without the “animal ear”look ..but…they don’t work for me….so it became an issue….I chose function over form….
have the 2021 street glide, luv it,i do want the 2022cvo for the very reason of upgrades, ihave installed 10 in bars mirrors heated hand grip, stage 2 cam an tune, muffler tips,rider/passenger back rest, you can allready imagein how much ive spent, not to mention black out stuff.any more upgrades would be a waste for trade in value. oh and legend shocks for the rear as well, lol i am sure i will do the same for the cvo
That CVO headlight looks like the new(I believe in 2020) Daymaker adaptive LED, it’s supposed to light up the top and bottom led bar in turns. They run around around $850……I’m still undecided if it’s worth the extra money vs the regular daymaker.
I've ridden all the Harley headlights in the Street Glides and, like stated, the new light illuminates in turns to light up areas that sorta "go dark" due to the lean and bar turn. Honestly, you notice the difference, but I think it's only a slight difference to an experienced rider. Just my opinion.
I agree with you, I invested my money in a 2014 Street Glide Special. I could not see spending $13,000.00 and finding myself spending more money to make the bike custom to my feel and fix. I have friends who own the CVO’s and strange enough I find them paying more attention to the customization I invested on my bike, without having to spend what they spent on their CVO. Personally I believe for the cost of the CVO’s Harley Davidson should be giving its customers even more for example, auxiliary lights, fog lights and even a chopped tour pack, not to mention whitewall tires for those us us who like to go old school. Great video by the way.
Question how do those speakers especially the ones in the panniers cope with rain 🌧? Living in the UK we get a lot of rain and I’ve always been dubious of things like speakers on a bike. Thanks for comparison CVO is awesome and probably a saving in the long term
I've never seen or heard of any issues due to water. Thats not to say there isn't any, but I would say its rare. I feel the same as you though. I was always extra careful washing my bikes with speakers.
Do you know if the front wheel off of one of these will fit a Lowrider S I know I had to do something different with the front fender but I just want to 21 inch will just to piss people off
There are a few parts on CVO that are vin restricted but gas cap and gauges are not and can be purchased in parts department. Don't forget to set money aside for labor if you are not mechanically inclined.
I feel that if your going to build up a bike the way you like it, the Streetglide standard or Electra Glide standard are the way to go. If you use a Special, you come too close or even exceed the CVO's price after upgrades and labor.
People today: For that price, it should have come with LED lighting, ride modes, traction control, power locking bags, Ohlin suspension, chrome forks, CVO paint job, and free oil changes for 70 years!
I watch this video anxiously waiting for something that I really needed or wanted on my bike? Nope nothing. Frankly I wanted “My” CVO, not Harley’s CVO.
They are so expensive because there are dummies willing to get robbed. My street glide special 2017 was 24k out the door, I paid it off in 2020. There is no better ride on a CVO than a special IMO. On my street glide special 107 it does what I want, all I did was add a fan assisted oil cooler, full LED lighting with passing lamps, and better seat and I am good. The biggest thing for me is that it runs so I change all three holes twice a season to eliminate wear .
A bag inside a bag. How convenient.....I guess! Not seeing a truly 13000 dollar difference. I think I would use the money I saved and use it on a long road trip! Game on!
I look at the price of a cvo and then look at the price of an Indian limited and I'd be hard to pass on the indian. It basically comes with everything the cvo does but for about 15 grand less. I like the cvo harleys but not for what they cost new.
I got my 2019 street glide special in black! I did my fosgate stage 3 and a 117 stage 3! Bars and a ton of other upgrades! I like doing custom stuff in my own reflection! Cvo is cool! But it’s very cookie cutter!
The CVO is the bike for you if you don't want to personalize the bike. I enjoy buying jewelry for my bike as I go..I want to pick out my pipes...I want to pick up my own stage 2 air intake...I want to pick out my own grips.. Transmission linkages, LEDs, ect. ect. I like turning wrenches on my own bike..I don't want anybody...to personalize my bike..for me...bc they can't!!
We would definitely go with the special and the put that 13k I saved into a 131 Stage 4 kit, Legend suspension, after market speakers and amp, seat and other custom touches like lighting from custom dynamics and Creo3d... in the end I would have a custom bike that gas better performance and handling, is more comfortable, and has better sound.
CVO people say that the customizations you do on Special will still keep it a special when you go to sell it. Curious to know if 131 crate motor will retain it’s value better. I would also like to trade my fat boy and get a special plus 131 modification.
More then ten years ago, even a standard E-glide came with spotlights in front and rear crashbars in the back. Since then less parts and chrome are on the bike and more and more electronic BS. And in those days the price of those bikes where HALF of today's prices. Who cares how it looks and if the paint pops out? It's about riding!
For most of us it is. But doing sales I learned some guys just wanna be able to say they have a bike, some guys just want a cvo bc people know its expensive. So many reasons people get into it. Fortunately guys like you stay true to the best part of motorcycles, the ride!
IMO, the CVO is not worth the paint job. I took my 2020 Street Glide Special, added an exhaust, Screamin Eagle Stage III, and a $5,000 stereo, which is far superior to the Rockford Fosgate Harley uses, and I'm still below the $13,000 difference. Get a Special and customize it.
Yeah it's got all the extra trim and the nicer collection on grips, floor boards etc but for a guy like you who doesn't care about all that, DEFINITELY do what you do. You spend less money and end up with exactly what YOU want. Also a good way to not every run into your exact bike while out riding. haha
after reading quite a few of these comments, it seems like CVO owners are just trying to justify their purchase with little to no evidence to back up their decision. I mean cmon, $13-15K more for comfort items. I mean can we call them what they really are, comfort items. Its not like you are getting just an absolutely absurd more amount of bike with the CVO. IMO the CVO is for the guy that doesnt like accessorizing his bike himself, he wants all the accessories at the harley markup so he doesnt have to do it himself.
I was with you, until you claimed you can hear your speakers at triple digit speeds. I DO NOT BELIEVE YOU, there. Harley is waaaaay behind on their entertainment centers.
@@throttleblip9854 Indian, Honda and BMW. All of which come with Apple play, intercoms and satellite already included. Why does Harley charge extra to activate all of that? Why can’t I link any Bluetooth communications I want to it. Harley is greedy. Harley sets their EQ one way for the showroom, and another for while it’s running. That’s why you need a DSP unit, while running amps. To flatten Harley’s horribly distorted sound. If you can hear your STOCK speakers, at triple digit speeds, then you’re running stock exhaust then too. Not only that, but you claim all that, with the completely useless stock windshield. Seriously, everything else you said, was pretty accurate. Compare your stereo with one of my videos. You can actually hear mine. And my stuff is mediocre. Even the amp that Rockford Fosgate supplied for the CVO, is over priced, and under powered. I’d get a tm400x4ad amp over that thing, in a second. Please don’t take this personally. Your videos are actually pretty good. But, please don’t embellish. Your stock output is 25watts. And that’s not RMS. My Rockford Fosgate amp is 112.5 watts rms x 4
The CVO ain’t worth it. Every mod on there can be had for less and more tailored to the rider. I’m a audio guy. So I’d be pissing my money away on a CVO since the sound isn’t powerful enough.
I would say you don’t need a mint to enjoy riding a motorcycle. Oberly expensive YES THEY ARE, touring models should either have all the bells and whistles or they don’t. If you go buy a Goldwing it’s a upfront price for everything. Harley Davidson should be trying to find a way to cool them hot butt motors down, if HD can produce a bike that rides like a Goldwing I am very interested. Harley Davidson is still using old 1950’s/1960’s technology like that huge primary chain rotating in oil and a loud shifting clunk even in 2021 give me a break.
If we're me. I would go with the Street Glide Special. I can take the 13,000 grand and add a few things and then take the rest of the money and buy me a good used vehicle. 40 grand for a motorcycle is a shit load of money. That's a down payment on a good home. Hey ! If you can spend the money. God bless you. I am really just a plain simple guy. Don't need the fancy to make me feel good. Just saying for me.
To me, the CVO is just gaudy. Way too much over the top. I bought a standard for $18k less, spent $4k in mods that I would have spent even if I’d gone with the special, and I have what I want. The only thing the special or the CVO comes with that my standard doesn’t, that I want, is the led headlight.
I’m good with the blacked out street glide special, it touches my soul every time I see one. It will be my first bike!
I’ll get the Street Glide Special 114 Black in Black. 12” Handle Bar with Rinehart Exhaust.
There's a difference, but not a $13,000 difference in my opinion.
I would say maybe 5K difference max!
Same with special vs regular. $8k is a no.
Love it
Just my style. No hate on the CVO, I'd just rather have a bike like yours and spend a little less like you did. Solid build choice.
Hell of a review, can't think of a single thing you missed. Well done
My Street glide special came with the Rockford fosgate speakers and the flush mount cap and it was 25800 I don't see anything on that CVO that's worth forty thousand and I got an $800 seat from bad boy cycles
I have the blacked out special. Things that I would like to add are the lights, seat and the auto locks. It’s my first cruiser so I’m happy with it.
CVO is my pick. Great comparison video as always. Thanks for all your hard work, that you make look easy!

Thank you!
Red one for me , less bling also better for my pocket… Great video 👍👍👍🇦🇺
Have a black 2021 SGS, would love to have the CVO paint job though!

Hey brother I have the special I bought that bike because of the price. I did s&s headers and my SVT BONESHAKERS EXHAUST. Also put on 14” apes.
Love it man! Sick bike. Enjoy it!
I’m still at the beginning of the video, but you pointed out the major difference is the paint. It’s PAINT!
I am planning on getting the CVO
Does Harley allow you to buy the cvo seat? Or is there a company that makes a similar seat? I like that look.
For what you pay for a regular or special they should come with more than what it does.
Agreed that CVO paint is the best, possibly my favorite of all time!!
The only thing I wish Harley did is illuminate their switch controls. The CVO doesn’t even have that. Def a accessories I want
I hear that a lot. Hopefully Harley is taking note.
I bought a used 2020 street glide special, that had a ton of extras put on it. So now I’m curious what the CVO has that stock special didn’t.
Thats whats most important. Sucks it didn't work for you but you made the right call. Gotta be safe out there.
I love my CVO. I have the 2021 SG Bronze Armor. I think it's worth every penny. Once again a great review!
I just picked up my 21 CVO RG bronze armor. Put T-bars and a 2/1 exhaust on it. Love that bike!
great video brother, this helps with my decision between cvo and special. thanks
Man I love to hear that. Thanks for the support!
have the 2021 street glide, luv it,i do want the 2022cvo for the very reason of upgrades, ihave installed 10 in bars mirrors heated hand grip, stage 2 cam an tune, muffler tips,rider/passenger back rest, you can allready imagein how much ive spent, not to mention black out stuff.any more upgrades would be a waste for trade in value. oh and legend shocks for the rear as well, lol i am sure i will do the same for the cvo
That CVO headlight looks like the new(I believe in 2020) Daymaker adaptive LED, it’s supposed to light up the top and bottom led bar in turns. They run around around $850……I’m still undecided if it’s worth the extra money vs the regular daymaker.
You're right, thats what it is. I'd have to ride with it and the standard Daymaker at night and back to back to see if it's worth it to me.
I've ridden all the Harley headlights in the Street Glides and, like stated, the new light illuminates in turns to light up areas that sorta "go dark" due to the lean and bar turn. Honestly, you notice the difference, but I think it's only a slight difference to an experienced rider. Just my opinion.
it would've love to see a road glide with that pearl white color
SAME!
@@bwade607 Exactly.
I love the paint in that CVO! Have you done a video on your personal bike?
do they make a trailer hitch for either ???
Road Glide Limited for me. Perfectly happy w/ the limited. Dont need to spend more.
Same!
Does the special come with a stage 2 on it?
the cvo Vin number at trade in time, will help offset the 13 grand
That intro was so good I had to rewatch it 😂🤣
Hahahah awesome! Was fun to make!
They are "wash tested" meaning they are subjected to a full-on, hurricane rains car wash type testing. No problems.
I changed my CVO shield with stock shield because I wanted my shield bag
Do you know if the front wheel off of one of these will fit a Lowrider S I know I had to do something different with the front fender but I just want to 21 inch will just to piss people off
Can you put cvo parts on the special? Like the gouges and gas cap.
Think I'll just keep my "57 FL. Paid $2200 in 1977. No infotainment center but I do have a headlight and taillight.
That's awesome. There is an experience those old bikes provide that no amount of technology or power can replicate.
Adaptive head light on cvo, 650$ follows curves at night when riding.
Game on!
Only thing I want is heated grips and bag speakers on my special
The right thing to do is to go with what you need
I look at the price of a cvo and then look at the price of an Indian limited and I'd be hard to pass on the indian. It basically comes with everything the cvo does but for about 15 grand less. I like the cvo harleys but not for what they cost new.
I went with the blacked out SG sp. there’s not 14k difference. Maybe 4 k
Do you still get a Gold Key when you buy a CVO?
Special is enough for me.
Street Glide Special is my ride, so of course SGS
Sorry they’re both beautiful machines but I don’t see the $
For the CVO it’s just not much better
I would take the special as is it’s all I need
you chose wisely Grasshopper!
My same thought process.
CVO 21&22 don’t come with stretch bags.
To be honest, I prefer the chromed out look of the special.
👏👏👏 good job
IM GOING WITH THE CVO 2024
Monkey butt is real. I use heat resistant tape on my seat also. Just not all the way to the edge so it not visible when on the bike.
I was with you, until you claimed you can hear your speakers at triple digit speeds. I DO NOT BELIEVE YOU, there. Harley is waaaaay behind on their entertainment centers.
Who would you say has the best?
Ur wrong my 2018 cvo speakers are loud as fuck at high speeds
@@Games.Gadgets.Sports he’s not talking about a CVO, with 6 speakers. Ya’ gotta’ read bro
White and black
If we're me. I would go with the Street Glide Special. I can take the 13,000 grand and add a few things and then take the rest of the money and buy me a good used vehicle. 40 grand for a motorcycle is a shit load of money. That's a down payment on a good home. Hey ! If you can spend the money. God bless you. I am really just a plain simple guy. Don't need the fancy to make me feel good. Just saying for me.
If I had the funds it would be the CVO all the way.
