I like how the 'FOUND SATANIC RITUAL' thing has become a bit of an in joke in urbex videos!
With any other youtuber, they would've click baited with "ran into homeless" or "homeless person found" or "blood mess everywhere" with some clickbait thumbnail with red circles everywhere. But instead the proper people are actual professionals at what they do and take this stuff seriously. I really do appreciate yall.

I was visiting Birmingham for work. I went for a walk while there and walked past this hospital. It was very creepy looking. I can't believe an MRI machine was just left there to rot, that is shocking.
You guys are the only exploration channel that I watch. I have tried other channels, but something about the way that you present the buildings and everything is so much more enjoyable to watch. Great commentary, Great shots, and great everything! Keep on keeping on!

I like these guys because they have common sense of what things are and do. Exploring with josh is an air head and doesn’t have a clue of most of what he is looking at.

@@fluffnose3394 Maybe hoping to find some wire to sell or to try to break it open so they could sell the electronics. Not to give ideas to anyone but even that keyboard could be parted out and the parts sold for scrap (done it myself with broken ones people have given to me). Sure aluminum is what most scrappers want (or copper pipe) but copper wire brings good money if you have enough of it as does, in the terms of scrap yards, Electrical Breakage. Scrap iron is what is worth the least amount but get enough and even it becomes worthwhile.

I would reccomed you both to get some proper walking boots which would be much more waterproof and asumin thst there could be needles lying around protect you from them a lot better. Just a suggestion though.

Literally suggested every time they post a video and frequently on reddit as well. I think they once said they don't bring heavy boots always for 2 reasons: #1 they're more of a burden than a help unless there are ground hazards and #2 they're louder and more likely to get you caught and kicked out of a place or fined for trespass.
Boots, good gloves, surgical masks. Also, in a place like this, a pair of binoculars might not be a bad idea. You can scope out whether someone official is coming in or exactly who is doing what in another building so you can assess the threat level.
they normally have heavy boots ethir in the bag or in the car. they also have very good breathing masks.
sctr1235 although I do no urbex I highly reccomend scarpa boots as they have never let me down at all, are insanely waterproof and conftable, so much so that i find myself using them for just general walking around and they are solid as hell, like walking on ice the hard rubber is like settl and breaks the ice on pathments
So a little history about Carraway Hospital, you actually entered through the clinic & walked over to the hospital. A woman’s charity bought the hospital to convert it into a large rehab area for women to recover & get back into society after leaving prison or recovering from an addiction. The stripped out areas were due to them doing remodeling to get the place ready. Unfortunately the surrounding community did not want them there so they walked away from it. Everything that was left had to be left due to laws of things not being transferred or donated & the machines would have been way to expensive to remove.

MOVIE EDGE It was a very advanced hospital at one time. If I remember correctly, it was the first hospital in Alabama to have a lifesaver helicopter service.

I'm from Bham. Carraway was a very good hospital. Just went the way of big money in America... the other hospitals in the city were purchased by big health companies while Carraway was operating locally on its own. The big blue star was an icon in the Birmingham landscape. I remember it as a kid. They even had a smaller hospital in Bessemer called Bessemer Carraway. That facility is still open but was absorbed into the UAB system in a couple of convoluted transactions. Even the Bessemer facility had a big blue rotating star on top, just like the one in Bham.
back in its day this was a great hospital. my mom was in there back in the late 90's hate to see it in that shape. it was such a grand place, and to answer your question yes the place did have rooms set up like hotel rooms for family to stay. they had a childrens ward there so parents would stay there so they could be close to thier children. awsome video guys keep upo the good work

What an amazing Hospital, seems a shame that such a modern Hospital has been abandoned. I have worked in Australian Hospitals paticularly in Outback regions and some establishments are little better than rudimentary sheds. That MRI machine would have lots of cool technical components ready for harvesting, seems a pity its all gone to waste. Thanks for such an excellent video, looking forward for more to come!
Maybe a radiology school can harvest that MRI machine. If they can get it to work, would be great for students to practice with.
Im always worried that you will run into people trying to jack your equipment. Or one day you will find a crime scene... But I love that you are brave enough to do this lol. I wish I had smart people to hang out and do this with. But Im a mid twenties girl sooo low chance. I did exploring things like this as a tiny kid and dream about it a lot... I ran across this video. When I saw the star I realized that I used to work at this hospital back in the 80s. I was the hardware representative from the computer supplier that had this account. I had my own office in data processing and I had to service video displays all over the complex. It was strange to see some of the areas so trashed, nasty and dark. Memories! Thanks!
My dad was Director of Data Processing at Carraway until 1986... It is heartbreaking to see it's current state.

After living in Birmingham my whole life I finally visited this place a couple months ago. It's far more destroyed now, so thank you for filming this before the damage so I can see what I was looking at.

@@imnotimportant some hospitals would name chronic care wings 'xx hotels' or 'xx apartments' so it makes the patients feel more comfortable, like they're in a home away from home. Either that or the section of the hospital has been designated as a hospice care area, which would then make the need for patient and family comfort even more important.
hotel was a place for families of patients to stay. I was working there when it was built.

A huge hospital. Creepy, exciting and interesting. Never thought the MRI machine would still be in there. Was really hoping you would hit up the surgical suites, hopefully in the next video! All in all, loved this one. Be careful with who you bump into though. Every turn you make down a hallway I'm prepping for an encounter with someone and a major jumpscare!

A few years ago I was on a school feild trip and we had to pass by that hospital to get there, no joke we saw a couple of guys sprint out of there full speed with cameras and flashlights..

welcome to b’ham!! my dad was a paramedic, he said that this hospital was once the best and everyone went to it. it was a teaching hospital and focused on patients. there are lots of homeless people in downtown bham and I can only imagine Carraway being the only safe place. I have wished to search this place before they sadly tear it down, the memories and the shelter for some, before anything.
I live in birmingham and have wanted to explore this place for years. The only thing that has held me back is that your almost certain to run into drug deals or crime scenes. Not to mention the numerous junkies that take shelter there. I have a friend that walked through it once and told me all the crazy stuff he saw. He went at night.

We have a small community hospital just down the street from my house that closed about 6 months ago. I went over last week just to check it out and it had LEGIT security patrolling the area..now I REALLY want to get inside. I can’t imagine a hospital of this size being completely left open..how awesome!!

i just dont fucking get why you would leave a building this size and condition to just fall apart.. fuck sake, put up some alarms and lock the damn doors, then the building might would have been in shape for future use..

henrik este If you've looked into the history of this building, you'd see that there was at one time alarms and cameras and everything was kept uptight by the Lovelady Center. However they too failed to keep it tidy so there's no real purpose to the building now
I don't think you understand how being bankrupt works.
True, but, it takes tons of money to recondition old buildings like these and get them up to code if they've stood empty for only a few months. Most commercial buildings require constant maintenance to hold them together. For instance, the Wal-Mart in my town has had roofers working on its roof like 4 times now in six months. Just trying to keep it from leaking. And that's one aspect of keeping these things functional. Almost every commercial building has a mostly unseen army of maintenance personnel or contractors keeping them working.
That's why so many are just abandoned. After its decayed beyond a certain point from lack of maintenance, it would cost less to build a new building from scratch than rehabilitate a building that's been sitting for as little as a year without that army of workers keeping it from falling apart.
I love everything about these videos! The creepy background music, the attention to detail, the narration, etc... One of the only abandoned exploration channels I watch!

There are some other good explore creators right now, but haven't seen any who can match these guys in so effectively conveying the flow of exploring a physical location. The narration is just right, never overdone; they make it about the place, not themselves. The genuine dramatic tension in this one as they progress through the rooms is remarkable.
That part of the complex which resembled a hotel was very likely a hospice wing.
I work 300 yards from this location, I actually live 15 minutes from here and was actually born here at this hospital in 1987. In its prime, caraway hospital was an amazing hospital and was the place to go for emergencies and such. I’m 31 now, and it’s really a downer to see time taking its toll.

i'm absolutely obsessed with exploring abandoned places, researching them, and watching documentaries or videos like these. The places are so hauntingly beautiful to me. but for some reason, this one was so sad to watch
For anyone interested, basically it's planned to be demolished: The Lovelady Center planned to spend $15 million over three years to convert the 52-acre campus into a multi-use development that would include the rehab center, a hotel, emergency room, pharmacy, and a long-term medical care center. The finished project would be called Metro Plaza.
The neighborhood committees around Carraway opposed the Lovelady Center moving into the vacant hospital. They believed a transitional housing center would be a step back for the community, and not a beneficial use of the massive complex.
In 2018, the Lovelady Center sold the 50-acre property to Corporate Realty Development and plans were made to transform the former hospital campus into a mixed-use development that will likely include single-family residences, multi-family residential, retail and restaurants, offices, hotel and an entertainment venue.
instead of turning it into a plaza for expensive apartments and entertainment, wouldn’t it be more beneficial to turn it into a homeless shelter? since homeless people are already living there and don’t seem to be the cause of all the non-aging damage, a homeless shelter is obviously needed for the town.

You're not like some guys I know where they go into a building and they talk out loud and make a lot of noises without caring or thinking some one could be hiding inside somewhere waiting to be surprise by some kind of lunatic. That building looks quite new. What a waste, imagine what a developing country could do with that, especially the MRI.

I am from Birmingham and up until recent years the life support team ran out of one of the top buildings. That may have been why the helicopter was flying close. Surprised you did see any other people, I've heard that place is covered with homeless and druggies. Cool video!

Husker Hotel In Lincoln Ne is used as patient family stay for the hospitial. It is fairly common and helps the family a ton.. we used it when my late father had heart surgery.

I actually live close to to the hospital and made it a point to go there at least once a month, it reignited my photography and gave way to a lot of cool photos and tours with friends. It's rigged to be demoed as of earlier this month, but they have yet to go through with it because of the virus at the moment. It's really cool stumbling upon this and your channel!! Birmingham has tons of cool abandoned places, but nothing touches Carraway,

I live thirty minutes away from the hospital. I've always been very fascinated by the hospital and wanted to explore it, but I was told it's extremely dangerous to go into. Thanks for exploring it for me!

@@forganforge I was a teen and would never destroy anything abounded or not.... I did however find an old trailer house that had been left for over 25 years. A man and his teen son lived there and they won a 1million lottery in my home town. They literally left the 2 days later because the news followed them to the receiving/claim center. They asked not to be announced. Media dont give a crap... so they just go there money and left. Of course they only receive 600,000. Anyways..they trailer still had a lot of decent things.... my friends dad cleared it it. Got ownership and moved in 3 single moms in the 4 bedroom trailer. Gave them jobs.

You guys should carry mace and/or a taser. I know that in the long run that it most likely wouldn't help anyways. But. It definitely wouldn't hurt to have some form of self defense. I would much rather go to jail, then end up in a situation where I got hurt; because I didn't wanna carry a taser, or some mace. Just my advice though. It's here. Take it or leave it.

@@mickdavis2385 Well he is kinda right. In hospitals they try not to make things sound so blunt so the patient, or the families of the victims take it more lightly.
