In this episode we explore an abandoned hospital building that dates back to the 1930s and closed around two decades ago. Surprisingly, the building was filled with patient files from the 90's and there were still some lights on in some places.

This toilet has been abandoned for two decades and still has toilet paper.
Meanwhile, the toilets at my university do not seem to have had any toilet paper for two decades.
Because poor college kids steal the toilet paper. My university started putting it in lock boxes back when I was in undergrad.
Now you know where the toilet paper at your university is escaping too

If you have the extra cash, like 30 bucks or so, you should probably invest in a voltage detector tool that you can hold up to wires and it'll tell you if they're live. Walking into an area with dangling wires can be really dangerous, and the detectors are basically small enough now to be shaped like a large pen you can keep in your pocket. If you hold the tester up to a metal conduit and get a response from it, it's dangerous to even touch the conduit with your bare hands.
Marc Brandenburg they got Sony a7s I’m sure they got the cash lol

@RuleofVicus you're a moron
Built in the 30s, high tech medical building- FULL OF ASBESTOS. It was used as insulation everywhere from the 1960s and prior. With a building pealing, decaying, and turning to dust the airborne particulates will most likely be toxic. Paint probably full of lead too. The more you know 🎵

I'm old enough to remember a time when there was no internet and computers were just coming into use in people's daily lives, but it is still hard to fathom a time when doctors had to physically look for books in the hospital library to research a symptom in a patient. All that info just a keyword search away. Amazing explore!
I remember secretaries using typewriters. All you would here was the tapping of the keys and the bells chiming. Damn, I'm old!

@@keisha37 To be thoroughly fair, I'm only 4 years older than you... I guess I was just flabbergasted that the time I have my earliest memories from was that long ago...? Dunno, I don't remember what I was thinking 3 years ago. 🤣
I think its interesting how these places can be defunct and abanaded for so long and still have power connected but god forbid I miss paying my bill and two days later my powers off
A lot of the large campus set ups have a main power supply that comes in from the utility and is metered there and then is split up after the meter by the facility. So unless they (maintance) shut off the feed from the distribution point to the building it won't stop and is just lost in the over all usage.
I'm not sure which is creepier -- the darkness of an abandoned building or being in an abandoned building and having the lights on.
Definitely the lights on. I was almost expecting to see that giant ax guy from Silent Hill coming down the hallway under the building.

...proceeds to touch everything with bare hands.
I know that recent vids are mostly reruns of the past expedition, but I'm concerned that after all these years they still go to these places nothing but wearing T-shirts, shorts and with no gloves, as if they are just casually strolling around their neighborhood (unless the weather is cold, lol). With so many rusted metals, bio hazard wastes, and tons of other nasty things sitting around in those ruins, it should be a ticking time bomb before one of them gets a serious wound or some horrible infection.
They definitely should wear gloves and more protective clothing before it gets too late...
Asbestos is pretty bad for your lungs but entirely harmless to everything else.

Why is it bad to touch stuff with your bare hands?
kind of like the Covid rules today, mask but no gloves
So Oklahoma has an amazing abandoned hospital to explore. Griffin Memorial hospital was built in the early 1900s and was only shut down around 10ish years ago. The majority of the hospital specialized in the insane and performed operations such as lobotomy’s. It is also considered haunted. The building has no electricity but lights are seen flickering and many frightening things have happened to people there, I know some personally. It’s not secluded though and could be dangerous to explore. I know people who have found the morgue and operating rooms and have video. The majority was funded by the free masons and is liked to their history. An abandoned Masonic chapel is next to the hospital. Could make a great bumps in the night video.
I bet that place is spooky as shit at night with those dim florescent lights. Sometimes half assed lighting makes a place more scary than no lighting at all. Most of those patient files are probably of people that are long gone.
@Bill Williams There is something extra eerie about flickering, dim, fluorescent tubes, especially when they just glow red at the ends of the tubes. There is a long corridor in one of the industrial facilities I work at, and it is almost in darkness except for a long-neglected, buzzing ballast, dim flickering fluorescent fixture at the far end.
If they have files from 1995, these people could still be alive, even be only 30 years old if they went as child!
Yes! When you can see just well enough to get spooked.
your cinematography never fails to amaze me. just gets better with every video, it’s been a pleasure watching your channel grow as it’s so rightfully deserved. keep going guys!
The files should have been destroyed properly. Pretty sure that's a massive violation somewhere.
HIPAA
What
@@Rainbow__cookie "HIPAA" is the initials of the law that protects personal medical information. When you sign forms at your doctor that tells how they use and store your personal info, that's part of HIPAA.
They explained in the video that the HIPAA legislation to destroy patient files properly didn’t come in until 1996 and the newest files they found where when it was abandoned in 1995...
I mean hell, I couldn't even get MY own records from MY own doctor's office a while back because they said regulations didn't allow them to release my records to me. Yet there are places like this with them laying around...
The attic room with all those files reminds me of an old workplace. Every year the manager would ask the sales team to empty out the shop filing cabinets and put the documents into the 'archive' in the upstairs store room. I was there 5 years and every year they did the same thing. On my last year, I asked the woman I was working with if anyone took any of the stuff in the 'archives' out for recycling. I was concerned because the floors were making quite a creaking sound when we were up there walking about... She said she had been there 14 years and she had always done it as asked without question and never seen anyone take documents down for recycling! I left the company shortly after then, I wonder if the floor finally collapsed under the weight of all those documents! 😕🤐

No Christmas decorations?
I'd like to see the math on how much money was spent by both private citizens and government bureaucracy. Does the old hospital mission statement, or any annual report, mention the primary mission of the hospital as provider of extravagant employee day care?
They really went beyond and above to make sure no money was spent on 🏬 the residents / patients over 🔃 there, apparently.😬
When ya'll were in the tunnels and said along the lines of "It's connected to the Department of Corrections buildings" my heart almost sank for you guys, I'd exercise some serious caution near a Correctional Facility, as a former Detention Officer, you don't wanna spook any CO's on watch lol
This place legit looks like it's in the Upside Down. The walls are all peeling and the vines on the windows.
The peeling walls are layers of lead paint. They’d have lead poisoning if it wasn’t for the respirators.
if anyone is weird like me, the lights that are on, are emergency lights, usually fed from a dedicated panel. and i've seen fluorescent ballast and lamps last decades if they don't get turned on and off all the time.
Don't consider this bit of technical information regarding the electrical system makes you weird...
The ballasts only start the cycle. Once lit all the tubes need is power to maintain.
I really want the switches to be tested more in these videos to see what is still working..but obviously that comes with risk..if it was me i’d be testing anything that looked half safe 😂
As an electrician I respect this comment

An old dilapidated building that has been abandoned since 2005 STILL has power and lights on. My power company employs a guy who just sits there in a small room on a stool solely waiting for me to miss my monthly payment so he can go and turn my power off.
Now it's after midnight for me and the best time to watch exploration videos of abandoned buildings.

I've always suspected they leave the power on in these abandoned hospitals hoping they burn down so they don't have to pay for expensive site remediation before demo 🤷♂️
Definitely insurance related for sure.
it would stop scrappers from stealing copper wire.
How would a building this decayed even be insured though? I wouldn't insure it, unless their premiums were more than the payout, lol. (No, I'm not in the insurance industry) 😉😬😷

I question in the legality of those files. Even though they are dated 1995, a year before the HIPAA law was signed by President Clinton, the law applies to the past, present and future medical information of people. I'm not sure, but I think it even applies to people's info after they have died. So if someone had died in 1995 or prior, and their records are there, that's probably a violation of the law as well. The fines for violations of the law are pretty hefty and I think are capped at about 1.5 million a year, but fines are levied for each incident of a violation of the ACT. I would assume each of those files would be a separate violation.
Who cares. Most hospitals that shut down dont care about HIPAA and they're not going to start now
It actually doesnt matter, you are not allowed to go there....basically the documents are stored "the right way"
That was a daycare. It is how we set up ours at the school I worked at. They use the shelving units to keep the kids corralled by age group and to stop them running away.
How creepy it would be to walk into a room that look brand new like it was never touched In a place like that
It would be awesome if when you said "for now at least" at the end of the video, if that meant you were going to explore more of the buildings at the larger facility, because it seems like there is so much potential here. Great video!

The leaky steam valve is very horror film/game-like. First time I've seen one outside of Half-Life or Nightmare on Elm Street.
Exterior front of building looks like an English manor. It's so sad to think about all the life and purpose abandoned buildings once possessed. There is a fascination for these places. This building in particular is an unusual find. Would be particularly sad for past students and employees who worked there.
Look! 4:29 and 17:18 Those watches stopped at the same hour omg
Not just the same hour but the exact same second. Some facilities like hospitals and train stations have clocks which are powered and synchronized centrally to avoid mismatched timestamps on time-critical things. You can often see that they are wired up somehow like seen here. (Sorry for breaking the illusion but now you know.)

You mentioned that this is part of a larger facility with other active buildings. If so, just my opinion here, but the facility would still be liable for protecting patient files since HIPAA is law right now.
