- Carraway Hospital, abandoned for 10 years. Now it's simply a place for people to gather metal and make a few bucks.

Just stumbled on your channel this morning and I'm glad to see more content about Caraway!
Also, hi neighbor, from Decatur!
Hello there!
I worked on the CSICU there in 2001-2002. I also had take take a few patients to the morgue, which was very creepy!
It's sad how that place has been vandalized
The blue star from top of the main hospital will be refurbished and preserved to stay on the property 💕
And it's a piece of history for. Charles carraway
Bro i remember going there when i was a little kid last time it wasn't destroy until it got destroy
its a huge building omg
I have visit friends in this hospital many years ago... What a shame that this has happened to it...
That's the old caraway hospital. When me and my dad sub contested flooring, we installed almost all floors in that place
s this the old Carraway Hospital in Birmingham AL if so my grandma was born here 1929
yes
My Dad had his heart surgery there in 1984.
i live like 15 minutes from this place and ive always wanted to go inside and look around it for years.
I could use that wheelchair LOL
i’m watching this bc i’m going today
Just drove by this desolated corner of Birmingham a few months ago. Wish I could see it at night.
It's a pretty bad idea to go to an abandoned hospital in almost the worst part of Birmingham
Wow! I was born there 50 years ago. This is the hospital my whole family used until they went bankrupt. The community of Norwood was once a beautiful and high class neighborhood. Somehow, it took a nose dive. The beautiful, grand, houses fell into disrepair and crime rates skyrocketed. I would love to see the whole neighborhood revitalized. There has been talk of renovating the hospital into a multi-use building with a theater, shopping, and apartments. I'd love to see that happen. It's a shame that it's been allowed to go down like it has.
Shut up!
@@antoinelawson3691 we know who lives in the ghetto now😂
@@kingshit7362 True.. Very True 🤦
Did you find the morgue?
Wow, I died there😉
How do you get permission to explore these places? I wanted to explore this old Carraway Hospital. Its like you're in the Walking Dead
This is where I was born at in 1970
My husband is in his early 30s. Yeah that’s her path transplant one year after our son was born and a clinic near there but we had to go in and out of that clinic. All I ask is that you pay respect to those holes that you walk through because if it weren’t for those nurses those doctors and everybody else my son would not have a living father to this day. I love what you guys are doing and I love watching it and I love the fact that you guys are trying to preserve so much. But that one just struck a chord and hopefully you guys can keep on keeping that building life alive
hi,my kids were born at carraway norwood 25 and 27 years ago,it was once a nice hospital, now its just in a very bad part of town
It does make me sad to see these buildings destroyed. Those buildings could be made into so many things. Yes it would cost to remodel but just look at all the different rooms you could rent out , or office space. Now it's just junk 😥
yes it is sad to see it all vandalised but the good news is, it is going to be redeveloped into a commercial site which would have entertainment, residential space, office space, hotel and dinning as well as retail space. The corporate realty group is going to start from this spring most probably ,the demolishing constructing work.
By there yesterday and the area is terrible. The people in the area have destroyed the building knocking out windows and stealing from the building. Terrible they wanna live like that.
I was born at this hospital, and my mom was a receptionist here as well
My grandmother delivered over 300 babies in this hospital! So sad to see it so messed up
This video speaks volumes about the state America is in. Another great video, always enjoy watching !
The guy with the scrubs on is killing me lol, but great video........
Which video shows a man sitting in a chair behind u but u said no one was there ??
Well it took me a while but I finally found the video!! let me know if you see this I been working hard for you lol
ua-cam.com/video/u6CYlFZPEb4/v-deo.html
50:40 this was my mothers office, her desk was the one on the left inside the door way and I remember sitting on that "nice" couch on the days off school, oh the memories
44:38 not 50:40
I was born there
Where those scrubs?! Haha awesome explore ✌️😁 Would love to explore a hospital someday
So sad. It was a very nice hospital. I only visited friends that were there. It was just too far to go from Shelby County.
Ok what's all the noise with the camera? Id appreciate it if you would find a way to not have all of that bumping sound. 🙂
Wow. I’ve ridden my bike by here
All the energetic intensifies the closer you get to the star
Why doesn't the city make these buildings into apartments? They obviously know it's going to close down so they would have plenty of notice and time to convert them. They could then make money back by renting or selling these apartments,it makes sense to me to get some money back rather than none and leave it to turn into an eye sore
Tbh Im not sure,I live near the hospital and its still not renovated or changed.I do believe it cost to much to tear down or change.I think its still owned.
They are already apartments.. hundreds of homeless people live there bro. I've met some. Some will try and kill you. Some are passed out on heroin. Some are cool.
Where is this hospital?
Holy moly wow! How long it must have taken to build that and now see how fast it was destroyed! Thought for the day....Waste not, Want not.💡
Great video EA. Loved the shot of the Honeywell panel. My mom works for that company. She builds heating cores for commercial and military airplanes. So sad to see a nice big building going to waste. I can never understand the concept of tearing down something that could still be used and building something new in its place, Some parts of that hospital looked like it was very old.
I see they still have the blue star on the roof of the Physicians Medical Center. So much damage for a few years of being abandoned.
I snapped off a piece of it.
I'd have been tempted to harvest those oak storage bins! LOL
Same here. I wanted all that oak too. Swing by we'll make a midnight run haha
Nurse Ratched has joined the watch party
That hospital sure got trashed quick from all the previous explores I've seen on it...still amazing that they never secured the property with fencing with it being wide open...✌🏻️
Spooky, potential for a Walking Dead storyline. Great narration.
Are you allowed to just walk in? Or is it shut off to the public?
😲😲😲Very Cool😲😲😲
Great video lol i can put that before watching because the videos are always great
thanks man, appreciate that
Another great video mate... 👍👍👍👍
That place is huge ! Wow
Scene like from any zombie or post apocalypse movie. Disturbing. That's incredible you were able to get an authorized guided tour!
Hey there, I live in Birmingham ,Alabama.. great video guys
thank you
Im in southern Alabama. Im looking for places to explore, preferably haunted!
Fort Morgan and Downtown Mobile are both great areas. If you come up towards my area of Huntsville/Decatur, I'd recommend bankhead Forest. A lot of weird, paranormal, unexplainable things out there. Also, Maple Hill cemetery in Huntsville is 100% worth the drive.
Alot of people have committed suicide in carraway
NashMakesAshes I know one
Looks like it’s been vacant long before 2008. I drove by it last Saturday.
Why did the hospital move in the first place? I hate how people trash it ,breaking out windows etc
This hospital didn't move, it went bankrupt. The area of Birmingham where this hospital is/was became a bad part of town. You also had the rise of other newer, more state of the art hospitals in the Birmingham area (UAB, St. Vincent's, Brookwood, etc.).
@@rolltidechris My uncle did his general surgery residency here from 1992-97...Sad to see it in such a decrepit state.
Fix it up!
I went there today and was gonna park in the parking garage but there where 2 Birmingham cops sitting in there
LOOK AT THE FORT PAYNE ONE ITS SCARY ABANDONED HOSPITAL
already did a video, coming out eventually
Hadn't uploaded in a day or so I was beginning to worry! Exploring Alabama withdrawal lol
we just rolled back into the state late last night. Should be back on track now. Thanks for waiting on us
glad ya'll made it back safe!!
I don't understand why people graffiti and abandoned stuff like that. 😢
I always wanted to run a go cart through a mall that place is perfect but so much debris
Really good man!
You can really do well if you had a way to collect enough of the electrical cabling . Reminds me of when I worked in the junkyard . We picked up two flatbed loads of brass and stainless steel sprinkler system parts . Lots of other plumbing parts we spent months sorting through that heavy stuff in our spare time . One pick up was so heavy it up righted the front end of the flat bed truck when we drawing the bed back in and lifting it back up . Had the chassis checked for twisting and fractures but the ford heavy series bed with tow bar handled it . When we went back for a second pick up , we found out every towing service and private haulage who can get there in a moments notice had pillaged the place clean of all worth . You can put a huge dent in your mortgage if you can get enough copper .
It’s currently rigged for them to blow up :-/
It isn't. I've been there recently.
ZOZO-PROductions I saw pics online where it looked like it was
Wow
Thats what im thnkn
Please dress appropriately when going through these buildings. Boots, gloves, long sleeves, safety glasses, long pants etc. To protect you from needles, glass, mold, rotted wood and other hazards. Glad you have someone carrying too. We had investment in this hospital. So sad.
That looks like it was a nice and extremely large hospital. What caused it to become abandoned?
It was a state of the art hospital at one time. It was the first hospital in Alabama to have a rescue helicopter service. Unfortunately, the hospital got into financial trouble in the late 90s and early 2000s and went bankrupt. The area of Birmingham it was in became a bad part of town and other newer hospitals were built in the area.
“Go Potty”....Those words came out of a grown man’s mouth!
And when you grow up you too can say what you want. It's pretty cool..
Such a shame and such a waste. 😔 I am from Birmingham and remember that hospital well.
Shoot if I would've known you were gonna be there I woulda came to say hello

looks like a wasted billion dollars to me
They have a bomb shelter in the hospital part at the bottom floor
bombs do get scared and have rights too
wheres this?
Is it creepier to be in there alone or with strangers lurking about? I vote strangers 😒😳🙈
I think so many people in it made it creepier. Next trip will be at night. Maybe
On Halloween nonetheless wink wink
I am sad to see buildings like this. It is a huge waste of resources. What really gets me, and don't get me wrong, people are sometimes in need and need a place to stay....but why is it every time you see "homeless" people living in an abandoned building, where they are living is trashed out worse than the rest of the building? WHY? If that is your "home" why do you live dirty like that? I know it likely has to do with their mental well-being but if it's where you lay your head down to rest at least keep it neat. sorry...i digress....just always wondered. And no I am not a clean freak or germaphobe. I get greasy and messy and dirty with the best of them but where I lay my head down and where I call "home" is clean. stepping down off my soap box, I have to go do the dishes now! LOL
Try clamping the camera to the floodlight handle. Thank ya for making your videos!
What was that at 13:47
Ghosts, ghosts everywhere!
Can see something during 13:46-13:48. On the left lower area.
Some other person with a torchlight i guess. 🤔
I thought I saw a sign that said crematorium. I was wrong. I was going to ask that if it was a crematorium sign to mail it to me. Then I would hang it in my kitchen. Nuff said.
E.A.! Maybe your gopro is now set to record at 1080 p. Look at your screen resolution settings. If it's set to 1080, drop it to 720p. If it's set to 4k, drop to 1080p.
thanks, got it
I was born there.
This place is a serious accident or death just waiting to happen...
I totally agree. They finally took down the star because ppl stood under it taking photos.
Did you have to get permission to go here
I think its fenced off now and patrolled
Is this in Bessemer?
13:45
Is everything this easy to get into in Alabama?
Yes
the city needs to demolished all this buildings
What waste! Why?
So, Sad. I drive by this place and I just get a sad uneasy feeling.
The Fed or state govt should have stepped in an took it over, when it was still an active hospital. With the increase threat of climate change and harsher hurricane, this hospital COULD have served as an emergency back up, in the event of another Katrnia. Shame on FEMA
are you kidding me? my youngest son was born there 26 years ago..sad sad sad. tax wrght off.
I was born there in 2001
