    Very good documentary. Just recently I've been looking into and doing research on Indian Wrestling and their ancient training methods. Wish i had someone to teach me their traditional style of training and diet.I hope one day that their wrestling will return to its former glory and also provide a way for the Pehalwans and people to make a good living for themselves.

      Hello, that's fascinating. What made you interested in kushti/pehelwani? I have some relatives that have done it. I am currently training in some of the techniques, along with other combat arts. Maybe I could help you out with some of the training. Aspects of the diet have been passed down in my family.

    The great Ghulam pehlawan went to Usa and Europe before 1900s, he died in early age, who defeated wrestlers from all over the world after him another notable wrestler was the great Gama who remained undefeated all his life, Gama went on defeating Dr. Roller of England, and others including World Champion Zybysco of Poland after that he challanged Gotch and Russian Lion George but for some reason they did not accept his challange.

    Not India.
    Later Himachal and haryana were carved off from punjab.
    The greater part of punjab and most fertile part went to pakistan.

    A big shout out to Indian Pehlwani culture and Akhara culture. and Langot culture. Even, today a lot of Akharas in India are almost free, you must obey their rules though. No need of fancy equipements and expensive steroids to build strength. The Western culture has ruined our Eastern culture one by one. India has such a rich culture, STILL. That it gives me goosebumbs when I watch a video like this one.

    ***** I highly encourage you to watch this..it will give you how Indian grappling took place from ancient times..and a little insight on their diet...full of fats!!..Please note that on this date, many Indian grapplers are vegetarians feeding themselves with high fat, high carbs diet and they are some thick built atheletes..similarly our Pakistani and Iranians counterparts adapted on a more meat based diet..If you are interested in more stuff like this let me know I will share links..these are not your typical wrestlers from western countries...they follow strict disciplined lifestyles...

    Nearly all the Indian wrestling medals at the Olympics & the World Championships have been won by Haryanavi Jats. No Indian Punjabi wrestler ever won any medal in these events. And the only Pakistani wrestler to ever win a medal in the Olympics is Muhammad Bashir, who won a bronze medal in 1960.
    Haryana Wrestlers at Olympic: Sushil Kumar [Bronze (2008) & Silver (2012)]; Yogeshwar Dutt (Bronze, 2012); Sakshi Malik (Bronze, 2016); Ravi Kumar Dahiya (Silver, 2020); & Bajrang Punia (Bronze, 2020). Leaving behind Dutt, all are Jats.
    Haryana Wrestlers at World Championship: Udey Chand (Bronze, 1961); Ramesh Kumar Gulia (Bronze, 2009); Sushil Kumar (Gold, 2010); Amit Kumar Dahiya (Silver, 2013); Bajrang Punia [Bronze (2013), Silver (2018), & Bronze (2019]; Pooja Dhanda (Bronze, 2018); Ravi Kumar Dahiya (Bronze, 2019); Vinesh Phogat (Bronze, 2019); Deepak Punia (Silver, 2019); Anshu Malik (Silver, 2021); & Sarita Mor (Bronze, 2021). All of them are Jats.
    Similarly, at the 2010 Commonwealth Games, 17 out of the 19 Indian wrestling medals were won by Haryanvi Jats. A similar trend can be seen in the Asian Games.

    • @ronki23
      @ronki23 11 років тому

      Why is it that India has so few Olympic Champions and/or MMA fighters with wrestling pedigree? India's wrestling traditions are supposed to date before Jesus and martial arts have existed in India too but the UFC is dominated by Brazilians and Americans, Judo is dominated by Japanese,Chinese,Russians,Germans and French, and Wrestling is America,Russian,Kazakh,Mongol and Iranian

    • @rash9876
      @rash9876 11 років тому +4

      ronki23 Firstly, Indians wrestle in traditional Indian ways, i.e. in sandpits & with local rules - instead of wrestling on the mat & following international norms. So, at later stage Indian wrestlers find it difficult to switch to mats & follow different rules. In fact, sandpits wrestling focuses on stamina while in the mat wrestling speed is the main component. Here's an article about the Indian wrestling:
      en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pehlwani
      Secondly, India government, being one of the most corrupt in the world, doesn't support or invest in sports training/infrastructure. So, talented wrestlers aren't picked & trained at the early age.
      Thirdly, due to high level of poverty, wrestlers seldom get proper diet.

    • @ronki23
      @ronki23 11 років тому

      'A win is achieved by pinning the opponent's shoulders and hips to the ground simultaneously, although victory by knockout, stoppage or submission is also possible. In some variations of the rules, only pinning the shoulders down is enough. Bouts are overseen by a referee inside the ring and a panel of two judges watching from the outside.'
      Sounds like freestyle rules to me.
      Anyway, the Gama brothers and Dara Singh were only 'World Champions' in freestyle wrestling right? They won only national titles in Pehlwani? The wikipedia blurs their achievements

    • @zardarikuttahaihai
      @zardarikuttahaihai 11 років тому +1

      ronki23 Same goes for Pak, very little investment in wrestling. We had The Great Gama one of the greatest wrestlers of all time, who is the grandfather of the wife of the current prime minister, Nawaz Sharif. But today there isnt much coming out of Pakistan wrestling wise... In other combat sports like Boxing the Pakistani diaspora (pakistanis outside pakistan) are advancing rapidly. In amateurs, and professional ranks..

    • @rash9876
      @rash9876 11 років тому +3

      zardari kutta The Great Gama was born in 1880 in British India - in Amritsar (Punjab) to be exact. And he fought his whole career as an Indian wrestler & moved to Pakistan at the age of 67 - long after his last career bout of 1929.
