- 1997 BMW R858R Oil Sight Glass removal and replacement. This is a fairly easy job that can quickly get difficult if the old glass is seized onto the engine block. We were able to find a bearing puller tool to make the Job easy. Big shout out to Dan Cata on Adventure Rider. advrider.com/f/threads/oil-si...
New Oil Sight Glass was purchased from euromotoelectrics.com. The link to the part I purchased is here - www.euromotoelectrics.com/sea...
Slide Hammer And Bearing Puller Set Item # 62601- purchased from Harbor Freight for around $62 after 20% off coupon was applied.
Draining the oil is not necessary if the bike is leaned to the right side but we wanted it on the center stand for additional safety so we just drained the oil and refilled with fresh oil.
That's a really nice 850, and kudos on your calmness. I have a '94 R1100RS and an '06 RT, and I also use that Mobil 1 15W-50; it seems just right for these oilheads.
I use Bellray mineral oil 10w-40. Climate in Europe.
Thank you! Glad I found your video!
Been a biker for 56 years had many many bike but have a soft spot for my r850r should have kept it
well done,greetings from Germany !!!
verry nice bike, well done, grt from belgium
well done. good info. thanks
nice work!
I found myself shouting at the screen,, "Get a bigger screwdriver!" :D
😀 trust me we tried everything we had… that thing was on there!
So what is the Harbor Freight puller part number?
Where did you buy this tool? Cant find it on the interweb
Cool
liked the vid. question: is that oil rated for wet clutch? i have 2002 R1150RT . uh don’t take offense, but u made me cringe when u used that claw hammer get urself a ball pein hammer lol. i learned a lot thru ur vid, thank you.
These oilheads are dry clutch bikes. This specific 15w50 we use on the bike is some of the best oil for it. Consumes little to no oil and the motor stays quiet.
LOL... claw hammer... yeah, I have a rubber mallet that I probably should have used, but I think I was at a point of frustration after trying to get the old glass out before using the puller, that I was not really thinking straight. Glad you found it helpful, it's rewarding to hear when our efforts help others and just as rewarding when we get comments that teach us something we didn't know. never too old to learn!
Seems like it might be easier to clean your plastic glass with toothpaste. Any thoughts?
The problem was the ring was leaking, not the glass surface itself.
3.750l oil on the engine
Рука-лицо. Чувак, ты бы еще монтировкой выковыривал это окошко. Хорошо картер не сильно покоцал. А про частицы которые попали туда при демонтаже старого окошка я вообще молчу
use a fork seal puller
You mention that you ended up draining the oil......first job really, otherwise the oil will piss out down to the level of the bottom of the window and then you can't clean the recess up to prepare the new part.
The question is: why?
why changing you this glass ,this old glaas as verry good
Hij had olie lekkage daaruit!!
oil was leaking from the old glass seal and was making a mess every time I went out for a ride. It was time to change it.
@@hackjobrepairs8938 ah oke
no no clean glass and seal with a spray !
But he's doing the job because it is leaking, not because he can't read the level through it....
this is a bad job, not BMW worthy, sorry 🙂
