- most services don't care about your suspension. therefor it's up to You to take care.
Take all bearings apart and wash in kerosene.
Re-grease.Use good grease that stands water. (Klüberplex)
Refit. Tighten a little bit hard first ca 15 Nm , move the parts and fit again. They say 12 Nm in rear bearings. 7 is old.
I have done this many times and guess it is correct. I don't use a moment meter either but I think most need one.
Thanks for the video. Always interesting to see other work.
Jak zwykle dobry instruktaż. Patent na 7Nm bezcenny. Instrukcja również jest aktualna dla BMW K100 16V, BMW K1100 i K1200RS/GT/LT
Super wszystko wyjaśnione, dzięki.
Życie mojego motóra Pan ratujesz :0)
Thanks! That really open my eyes!..... by the way, a NEVER invent actions, all that is in service manuals. Start with Haynes
That is all true.take some time and look through my videos. They are for decent folks who want to do things by themselves. Profi services don't need my movies,,,they want your money.
In factories that produce torque wrenches, the final control is made by.... the way I show (instead of sugar, 1kg weight). If You want to buy a 150$ wrench and Use it 1 or 2 times, you are free to do it.
Bravo 👍
Danke Mucho schein !
Dzięki! Rzeczowa porada, i o to chodzi :)
Thank you, it was very educational I am looking forward to the next video of you. Greetings from Germany
Hi! If You don't mind I will take a word in ... my own discussion. Thank You all for Your comments. All of You are very correct.
The main problem is that no services make this adjustment, they don't even check. Some adjust without any torque wrenches, and mostly they crush the bearing. You don't do this adj. very often... maybe every 50.000km? So buying a very expensive wrench to do it 2 times, well if You can afford.
The sugar wrench-All the most expensive wrenches are scaled by arm and weight!
TNKS. SUPER. AWESOME VIDEO. VERY. EASY. TO LEARN
I'm going to disagree with you here. Using a known weight at a known distance will always be in calibration, unlike clicker wrenches or even spring-dial wrenches. And with such a small torque load, the clicker might affect the adjustment.
In this case, it also lets him leave the torque load in place while marking the second position of the bolt.
BMW made a mistake. The correct torque setting for this pin is not 7 Nm,it is 10-12 Nm.Check it out for yourself, call BMW.
makeing 7 or 10 ??? Good luck!!
True, guess i was a bit taken back by the execution of the idea. In principle sure, weight * gravitational acceleration = force, times length of lever gives torque. My point is that the uncertainties of the scale he uses, the exact placing of the bag on the lever arm, and the rather arbitrary choice of end position of the "wrench" all sum up to more imprecision as you would get form using a calibrated torque wrench. If you want to use lab level approach, use lab level execution as well.
Hej .Mam do ciebie pytanie .Chodzi o przednie amortyzatory . . BMW r 1100 rs
I ja dziękuję, dobry film.
My point is, there are torque wrenches with small range of values, 5-21 Nm, and they are calibrated and checked before being sold. I know i know, cannot trust anyone :) but unless you are unlucky statistically your wrench will not be off. Btw, i have done this on my R1100RT using a torque wrench, no problems and no issues afterwards. There are certain industry standards for tools, you do not refine your own fuel form crude, right ? :)
thanks for your explanation it really helps
Pozdrawiam Piotr
by odpowiedzieć trzeba mieć przed sobą motor...
@Hank2wheels Thanks, every good advise is valuable
Dziękuję bardzo
Do not need locktite as locking nut at 105Nm will lock up .Waste of locktite.lol.Recommended by Chris Harris.
Mate thanks for a great video ! Is there a Newton Meter value to torque the shaft to or is it done as you showed ? Thanks
there is...7 NM but a wrench with this value is very expensive for 1 or 2 adjustments, so I use 1kg of sugar at 70cm arm....
To jest takie proste?
Witaj .Wymiana sprzegla w tej BMW :) .Robiłeś ?? Da się ogarnąć ?? ;)
Jaki jest dopuszczalny luz obwodowy koła - wyłączony silnik, motocykl stojący na centralnej, wrzucony bieg i obracamy tylnym kołem przód-tył ?
no ja miałem nawet 6cm przód tył na 1 biegu...
Pozdrawiam
jeszcze nie ma danych...za młode motki!!!!!
Genial...!!!
Manuals specifications says to torque adjustable pin 10 Nm at least. Better 12 Nm.
sorry...original BMW 7NM
And i meant mass not weight :)
No nie do końca.... Prawa na sztywno a kasujesz lewą. Oba ściskają jednocześnie...
Czy ten film do 1150 gs też da radę
raczej tak. jeśli ma taki wahacz.
i can tell these mechanics have superstitions about mechanical procedures. ( measuring 7 newton meters)
What I did see I would say dont do it like this.. you have no clue what your doing.. and what the problem is. There is a few other things that can make it pop and its not that point.. The final drive also has problems and I bet thats what your feeling..

Just use a torque wrench. Those bearings are just a poor design and will have to be replaced often. It’s a weak spot on these bikes. I know that’s sac religion because it’s a “BMW”, but those delicate bearings in that location with the motion they get are a poor design.
...maybe...mine was working 7 years ..over 75.000km no problem after adjustement
ha ha ha wtf
c'mon, really, torque wrench isn't that expensive, if you're going to take on such repairs you should have one, this is ridiculous, if you cannot afford a proper wrench you certainly cannot afford a bmw, and shouldn't be tinkering with one.
