- A fine Gold Top with rare matching gold back. This 1954 Les Paul features two original P-90 pickups and wraparound bridge. It sounds like a classic Freddie King record and plays really well despite the narrow fret wire. The back of the neck has been oversprayed but the rest of the gold finish is all original and has a beautiful patina. This guitar is a very comfortable weight and has it's original brown Gibson case. Available at Carter Vintage Guitars.
We plugged Joey into a 3rd Power Wooly Coats Extra Spanky set clean. He used a Mythos Pedals Erlking for overdrive. The amp was mic'd with both a Shure SM57 and a Cascade Fat Head BE. The room was mic'd with the stereo capsule on a Zoom H6N.

This guitar should be owned by this guy, not a investors
The one he has now seems to be a suitable substitute if not a better one. The magic is in the hands.
"played by Joey Landreth" = auto like and dropped jaw
rockdfunk True dat. Kid’s got some crazy chops.
Joey liked this guitar so much he had a replica made, which seems to be his main squeeze 2018-19.
Sad that the market for collectors keeps guitars like these out of the hands of people that would give them a happy life in my opinion. However, his Sorokin is amazing.
can you stretch the video to.. oh i dont know, a couple hours next time? Please?
Also, this is why guitars are not sold with mics..they are not meant to be sung over, the guitar does all the singing!
stunning skills, as always Mr Landreth. Thanks for embracing us with your talent. unwasted skills.
In Soviet Russia guitar plays you
This is absolutely awesome! Joey Landreth is a genius!!! And this Les Paul is, next to my all time favourite TOm Wittrock’s Donna, one of the most desirable Guitar I have heard and seen... 😍
Only reason someone gave a thumbs down is because he or she gave up playing guitar after watching this
Gorgeous tone and playing. Landreth crushes all the big touring solo guitar acts of our time.
Are you forgetting Sonny Landreth is a solo act?
One of the greates-sounding guitar videos on UA-cam! I think people are starting to "get" the wraparound tailpiece is a wonder of great tone. And the P90 early soapbars KILL the later humbuckers in a clean setting....
Damn. This one of the best slide players I've seen on UA-cam.
wonderful - the essence of lyricism - interesting how Asian sarod playing and slide blues use similar processes but different 'languages'to both achieve sublimity!
He's a freak of nature man
A nice Les paul is the one with sweet but hot cleans, not harsh heavy gains.
Flawless guitar, so is his playing:)
i think that is the best slide guitar i have ever seen.
And he was just noodling!
Then you should check out Derek Trucks, too.
Then you probably haven't heard Jack Pearson. You're welcome

fantastic tone.
Omg that neck tone!!
Whooah! He knows how to make her cry and sigh!
HOW DOES HE DO THAT?!?>!?!?
I think this is the second time I’ve commented on this. This is the most amazing tone and phrasing over EVER heard with a slide. So inspiring.
He was in town just last week. Fantastic job at getting these demos up so quickly, Carter Staff.
I have the 1956 Custom Shop VOS version of this guitar … Those soapbar p90’s are the tone to die for. Thank you Gibson, thank you Mr Landreth.
and Thank You Les.
A masterclass in playing a guitar that wasn't in tune but making it sound like angels.
No matter what guitar Joey plays the minute you hear it you know it's him.
the look and body language he gives to someone off camera as he decides to get nasty with it is classic..
Didnt know that Conor McGregor played the guitar so well...
THAT TONE!!! Wow, that's sounds so good. And man, that playing-no words.
God that's special, I really must set aside a decade to learn how to do it...
That was incredible!
Such authentic Tone. I want this more than Burst.
Why is it that guitar manufacturers seemed to have peaked in style and performance in the 50’s? Can’t we just continue to manufacture them to 50’s and 60’s specs and call it a day? I’m exhausted by constant “new product lines” that are identical to previous models (often with lower quality parts). It’s pointlessly exhausting.
P-90 tone right there..
Been planning a move on a conversion burst. May cash in a few investments just to purchase one since they're not 6 figures...
Lovely tone. I heard some Robert Randolph in there and some Ralph Macchio hah.
Sheet. Tasty af. Instant inspiration.
Buy this guitar.*
*Your results may vary. OK, OK, no way are you gonna be able to get these tones. But it’s still a nice old guitar and you should definitely buy it.
oh my GOD
That shade of gold is to die for.... That Les Paul is the total package when it comes to Goldtops IMO
The secret to such great tone and feel is the beige Robin Hood leotard? Joey is great!
Man had the very one in his hands there he needs to buy that guitar fast and quick like bravo sir that's what they supposed to sound like!!!!
What I like about these demo vids is that Mr L is not showing off and is giving us an example of all the tones available on a Lester not just running it flat out. Thanks
Is he open tuned? Or is he one of the GOATs that can do all that in standard? Amazing either way
9 thumbs down??? 😂 That was the perfect little pick me up I needed today.
No way of better play, no way to get a better sound!
Faaaaaantastic!!!
This guy has his own language with a guitar and yet we all understand it. More than that, we all feel it.
Food for the soul. Can never get enough of it. BRAVO!
Wonderful guitar---Wonderful Player!
Shame on the one person who didn't like this. Shame, shame, shame.
Wear a bell-bottom! You'll become a much better player.
This vid sucks big time. It's much too short!
Now that's how to demo a guitar - beautiful!
Somebody likes canned heat
Hey Joe! How does she stack up to the fina?! 🥴
Sweet Jesus this guy can play
Maaan, this guy's killing it
All those damn tones we love. Yasssss
It is in standard tuning?
I play my dads nearly every day
Great playing! ♫
Simply superb...
Delicioso sonido y toque
Holy shit
He took that home.
P90s rule...
Open E is it???
Fantastic!
Hey ironic beard guy! You dun good on this one. Keep it up!
To be honest I'd have really loved to hear some Freddie King or Mike Bloomfield style stuff on this.
no doubt an amazing piece of Les Paul guitar history and and worth a million dollars , and also this guy is a blues playing king but damn 5 minutes of that blues music I"m ready to drill a hole in my head, ugh gets on my nerves . Sorry & Peace !
You can’t be serious. The blues gave us everything worth enjoying in music.
Checked out your videos.
How amazing it will be to hear the guitar sound and not that stupid slide
Yeah, old man Carter sure stocks some turds & then invites a bunch of hack guitarists to play them inappropriately. You prolly think old D-wayne Almond totally ruined his old gold top & burst tones with some amateurish open tuning garbage licks too, huh? Bunch of lame-oh's ruining perfectly good guitars!
Clean out your ears
Sour grapes, huh?
@@WallaceLandreth Absolutely this person is full of sour grapes. Also, great to sing you happy birthday from the audience in Glasgow this month. Both of your lads are absolutely fantastic players together. Best gig of my life.
@@handlebarchap898 That was THE most surreal thing that has ever happened to me! Joe called me earlier that evening and they both wished me well. Then an hour or so later the phone rings and it's you lot singing for me. I still get goosebumps..
