  • A fine Gold Top with rare matching gold back. This 1954 Les Paul features two original P-90 pickups and wraparound bridge. It sounds like a classic Freddie King record and plays really well despite the narrow fret wire. The back of the neck has been oversprayed but the rest of the gold finish is all original and has a beautiful patina. This guitar is a very comfortable weight and has it's original brown Gibson case. Available at Carter Vintage Guitars.
We plugged Joey into a 3rd Power Wooly Coats Extra Spanky set clean. He used a Mythos Pedals Erlking for overdrive. The amp was mic'd with both a Shure SM57 and a Cascade Fat Head BE. The room was mic'd with the stereo capsule on a Zoom H6N.

The one he has now seems to be a suitable substitute if not a better one. The magic is in the hands.

Joey liked this guitar so much he had a replica made, which seems to be his main squeeze 2018-19.

Sad that the market for collectors keeps guitars like these out of the hands of people that would give them a happy life in my opinion. However, his Sorokin is amazing.

can you stretch the video to.. oh i dont know, a couple hours next time? Please?
Also, this is why guitars are not sold with mics..they are not meant to be sung over, the guitar does all the singing!
stunning skills, as always Mr Landreth. Thanks for embracing us with your talent. unwasted skills.

This is absolutely awesome! Joey Landreth is a genius!!! And this Les Paul is, next to my all time favourite TOm Wittrock’s Donna, one of the most desirable Guitar I have heard and seen... 😍

One of the greates-sounding guitar videos on UA-cam! I think people are starting to "get" the wraparound tailpiece is a wonder of great tone. And the P90 early soapbars KILL the later humbuckers in a clean setting....

wonderful - the essence of lyricism - interesting how Asian sarod playing and slide blues use similar processes but different 'languages'to both achieve sublimity!

Why is it that guitar manufacturers seemed to have peaked in style and performance in the 50’s? Can’t we just continue to manufacture them to 50’s and 60’s specs and call it a day? I’m exhausted by constant “new product lines” that are identical to previous models (often with lower quality parts). It’s pointlessly exhausting.

Yeah, old man Carter sure stocks some turds & then invites a bunch of hack guitarists to play them inappropriately. You prolly think old D-wayne Almond totally ruined his old gold top & burst tones with some amateurish open tuning garbage licks too, huh? Bunch of lame-oh's ruining perfectly good guitars!
