This is how I make. The other day I watched one video of a man making chapati. My God! Umpteen times he added oil and rolled and rolled and it went on for thirty minutes plus keeping it for another thirty minutes again for the entire process. I thought I was wrong all the time in making chapati: but after watching your video I feel relieved as this is how I make. Thank you.
The roti made that way will be very soft and will remain soft for a longer time ( as kneading and resting the dough will release gluten from the wheat, which will make it soft and easy to roll with a rolling pin)
You make it looks so easy I’m trying for so much times to make it puff up it it sometimes works half way I’m new at this chapatis I’m from the Caribbean we make parata roti we put oil on roll inside and also clap when finish cooking and the layers open upfront from inside so soft and flaky
@@MapleKitchen ah i see o the tawa I ment im finding making these things very difficult I domt know why as so simple but keeps either burning and bits aren't cooked fully or not cooked fully overly crunchy yet unburdened im not sure were im going wrong I use a very flat frying pan no oil no anything I tried olive oil butter etc to see if that helps but no difference exsept from thr taste 😕it looks so simple it is thats why I'm.so confused as to what im.doing wrong.
@Loran1879 actually iron pan Tawa it helps. It is thicker than non stick pans so heat distribution is even. It needs medium heat to cook and ideally no oil. If you want to use oil that will be a different recipe. I will make a few soon with oil too. Please check maple.kitchen/indian-roti-or-chapati-recipe/ it may help

The texture of all purpose flour and wheat flour is different. Wheat flour is coarse and all purpose flour is fine powder. Wheat flour is more suitable for roti and it also ballooned easily
Ingredients US Metric 125 g Wheat Flour Water as per needed 1 tablespoon Olive Oil Ingredients US Metric 1 cup Wheat Flour Water as per needed 1 tablespoon Olive Oil Directions In a bowl take whole wheat flour. Slowly add water and mix it while kneading to form a soft dough. Add a little oil and knead again until smooth. Divide the dough into small, equal-sized balls. On a lightly floured surface roll each ball into a thin, round shape with a rolling pin. Heat a flat pan (tawa) and place the rolled roti on it. Cook one side until bubbles form then flip it, Now cook the other side and press gently with a cloth or spatula. Optionally you can puff it directly over a flame for a few seconds. I'm glad, you find this video useful. You can make roti even without oil but oil gives more softness to roti.
There are different ways of cooking. Your culture may even have 10,000 ways of boiling water and no one shouts.

Can I use all purpose flour or it has to be wheat?

did you add cold water or warm water
Water at room temperature is good
what is the mat you r using ?
It is called baking or pastry mat
Does it matter if it doesn't inflate? I tried doing it twice (with a different recipe), but it didn't rise
At least flour should be cooked properly. If it inflates it is a bonus
Wheat flour brand name please?
I am from Canada and use Sher brand
Can I make it using a steel pan?
Yes, if the pan is thick it is better because heat distribution will be better

Flour
Yaa flour😂 can't correct it now
Roti or chapatis dough should be with only water and wheat flour……no oils or ghee etc etc…..
It is not true. You can add oil if you wish.
Doesn't looks like wheat flour (yellow color)
It’s a different kind of wheat flour. It’s called durum wheat flour. It has a slight yellowish color.
