I did a lot of work in that area in the late Nineties. We used to see Concorde take off and return most days. For a while we were working a couple of miles out from the end of the runway and she used to virtually take off over our heads! We used to see large passenger jets coming into Filton from all over the world I think to be serviced. Off the top of my head I can remember Air Canada, and Air India to name a few. There was a guy had his P51 Mustang hangered at Filton. He used to fly it a couple of times a week doing all sorts of maneuvers and airobatics, the noise was amazing!

The Mustang had the Merlin engine like the Spitfire/Hurricane and the Lancaster. They were built by Packard and I believe they were better than the Rolls Royce versions. I'm lucky that I live in the South East and get to see all those beautiful planes fly over in the summer. I can usually detect a Merlin from about a mile away 😊

Yes and had its final flight landing there also.....its now parked up in a museum just next to the air field

Yes, my comment was going to be an observation that the development is very reminiscent of Fascist architecture. I also often comment on auditor's videos that another sign of a Fascist state is that the cops will turn up if there is a business to protect but citizens' calls are not important

You should have checked on the internet to see if that road was infact private or council. I say this because other businesses have claimed to own private roads when infact they didn't.

YTL Land and Property purchased the site from BAE in 2015 after the airfield closed in 2012. The YTL regeneration plan is discussed in articles. South Gloucestershire Council has a 14 page "Filton Airfield, BS99 7AR" brochure for the airfield and surrounding land redevelopment including residential, extra care, schools, retail, community services, mixed use, business, etc. One article notes the Brabazon Hanger will be converted to an arena and 3,675 home housing estate. Wiki page also gives a history for Bristol Filton Airfield.

New Road is a PUBLIC ROAD all the way up to their gate, the bridge is not their property and is PUBLIC as it's the Motorway Bridge!

There are still 50,000 illegals in hotels waiting for a new house. The hotels are costing £8m a day - so, once they are in these houses it won't cost us anything (Obvs). On the other hand, those houses look so soulless that I'd rather be on one of the barges.
@@jimjarvis2309 I would say £8million is pretty cheap in comparison to what the additional costs would be to house them all. Think of that place in Farnbourough, £1.400 per month per apartment. Then all other associated costs, the normal council tax, heating, electric, their food, etc, it costs US the taxpayers a fortune, and not a small one. Everything to do with them is costing us billions per year. Billions which should be spent for us the taxpayers, only we get the raw deal.

@@stuartb4525 Hi, Stuart. Yes (I was being a bit ironic). The calls to process them more quickly - and move them out of hotels is so dumb because - exactly as you say - the costs continue.
Hotels are called 'initial accommodation'.
They then move on to ' dispersal accommodation'.
Then (and this is the bit folks haven't realised) when their claim is finally approved (more than 75% are approved) the Home Office stop being responsible and councils have to look after them because they then become 'homeless'. And, of course, even if their claim is refused, we don't deport them so councils still have to house them

Being an old cynic I would say we are looking at another vast soul less estate of ticky tacky boxes crammed in for maximum density with few facilities. They'll throw in a few trees and cycle lanes just to trumpet their green credentials, a future slum in the making.

Im sure concorde was built and flew from that airfield, my first job when i left school was at British Aerospace in Brooklands, weybridge, where we built the fusalage of concorde, it was then taken to BA Filton by road to be finished and flown.
Won't be much left for them to scrape up N build on looking around the area ....dig dig build build ...all we do to the planet😮

It's already a nightmare. They keep on building and expanding that area but make little to no changes to the roads. I worked at the top of that road next to the M4 and M5 motorway interchange at Almondsbury between '89 and '92 and even then that road was solid with traffic from end to end in the rush hours and it's a couple of miles long and 2 lanes each way along its length. Now, over 30 years later, they're building thousands of houses and flats to add to the problem. Thankfully I live the other side of Bristol and used that Road at 1am on Christmas Eve for the first time in over a decade.
The A38 is 292 miles long and runs from Mansfield, Notts to Bodmin, Cornwall.
I call BS on ther claim of a private road, why would they allow private vehicles to access and have to pick up road maintenance. I suspect the private starts at the roundabout entrance

CDM is construction, design and management regulations and applies to companies, not private individuals and is nothing to do with drone flying.

Filton airfield was most famous for Concord from its first flight from there to RAF Fairford where it spent all its days testing over and around where Iived, and I came back from colorado to witness her last flight into Filton I always remember she turned to the crowd and bowed.
What happened to me years ago, massive board outside with a fantastic pound to euro rate, went in changed my money, come back out and checked it and thought, this isn't right, went back in and tackled them, they said, that rate is only if you change £2000, wish I had 2k handy as I would of loved to see there faces, this was in benidorm, one I found excellent, but it's been a long time since I was there was, the indoor market near the nereo hotel 😊

It looks like they're (nearly) right about the land. The road is USRN 48018644 and the public maintenance extends to underneath the flyover, not on the other side of it. Still, it'd be a bit tricky to maintain line of sight from down there. 😉

I heard there is a Concorde on that Airbus land, but if it ever got restored it would never be able to take off because the runway is being built over.
This is Filton airfield where concorde was built and first took off on its first flight.
There is a museum nearby dedicated to all the Bristol manufacturing and concorde is in another building next door.
