As for your tent. I see you missed the option to open the back wall, for extra ventilation. There is a cord inside the tent, you should pull it, and the outer back wall, will come up.
As for the smell. Something is wrong, bacause i dont have any weird smell in me tents! I have two of these.. only the 3xl the bigger one.

I really love the tent. Ventilation wise i didn't see if you opened the backside for ventilation. Last weekend i camped in 30c, no problem. The fresh and blacked version i bought for festivals. There are running lights on the terrain. Every other tent i woke up in the middle of the night, thinking it was morning 😂. Just bought a new one after 8 years.

You did'nt use the tent like it's supposed to be used. It helps to consider the manual. You can open the rear flap to improve ventilation and it really helps.
The blacked out feature is really popular in Europe. People like camping with it in crowded campgrounds and use it for festivals.
It provides privacy even in the dark when you shine a light in it.
Additionally, in the summertime in Europe the sun rises at around 4 AM - people like to sleep longer than that since they are on vacation. You can absolutely do so without being blinded or baked by the sun in this tent.
My advice: Give it another chance, learn all it's features and don't camp in a sauna-like weather and you'll see this tent is better than you think.
It's very popular for a reason.

I agree, north of Scotland in the summer it doesn't get dark till maybe after midnight for only an hour or so, a dark tent would definitely be good

100% agree, I've been using Fresh&Black tents at festivals for years, they are amazing. I can sleep 2-3h longer then others, and with a fan, I can sleep all day in direct sun.

First of all, a reviewer who do not read the function of tent?
As many has already pointed out, there is a massive opening for ventilation in the back of the tent, where you can open up the whole back end of the tent for extra ventilation.
This function can be handled from the inside of the tent, also working with the side openings. Nothing of this was in the review.
I have only one concern about this tent and that is that when it rains, the opening is not covered, so you need to be very fast to get in or out of the tent, otherwise it will be wet, as it will rain right into the tent.
They have another tent, looking nearly the same, but it is a bit lower, but have an abides, so when it rains it will not get in to the tent.
They also have a complete new tent that is still a "2 second pop up" but much better, with good absides and everything.

With alot of the features you me tined being suited to Europeans, do you feel it works for other Parts of the World just as well? I just found the comments odd considering he is not in a European Country. I believe he camps in all weather to show off the tents, a d give a context to how it works in different weather. It is the main focus of the channel. How weather and gear work together. Thanks for the insightful comments about tent use in Europes light, and weather conditions.

    • @NashBen
      @NashBen 2 місяці тому

@@DrSinisster Mostly because I'm from Europe and used to the camping conditions there. And Decathlon is from France. So I assume they designed the tent towards European customer's needs. Though I've been in southern Canada (BC and Alberta) and climate there has not been that different, a little colder maybe.
The US are a good bit lower geographically speaking, that may be a difference.

I cannot agree, Luke. I have owned a version of this tent for ten years and it still stands up to the rain and chilling winds that plague the English Spring, Summer and Autumn. Yes, there can be condensation if you have to seal the tent against the wind, but that doesn't run into the inner and soon evaporates after the tent is standing unoccupied.

I’m an old retired vet, been a tarp guy for a long time. No shelter is set up in 2 seconds, some faster than others. I use tarps because they are fast, simple, reliable and light…even when car camping. From the video beginning, I don’t like tents such that the top leans toward the center, so that vertical rain fall enters the open door, no matter what. This tent is a fast setup and simple. I’m still a tarp guy. Thank you Luke…from East Tennessee.

That is my exact thought about all the pop up tents that have been reviewed. The roof of the tent should extend beyond the bottom of the doorway. I don't care about the weight, at 67 I will never go deep into the woods & far from my car. If I don't have to rough it, I simply won't.

    • @bretjohnson6188

I am also an older retired vet and have always gone out with a 1 person tent (better in inclement weather than a poncho). But I just picked up a 3m x 3m nylon tarp to try. Lighter weight and takes less pack room. Is there a favorite shelter configuration you prefer? And what is your normal camping environment (desert, forest, rain, etc.)?

It is possible to open up the backside of the flysheet for improved ventilation. The blackout fabric is designed for the European market. it can become light again in Europe at 4 in the morning allready, because it lies (on average) more northern compared to the USA.

I had a bit of an adventure myself this week, and it was your advice that saved me. I was at Pennsic, a medieval reenactment in rural Pennsylvania. I wanted a large cabin style tent, because when you are wearing long dresses you don't want to crawl out of anything! I saw your video featuring the Naturehike 8 person cabin tent, and it seemed just the ticket. It kept me dry and fairly cool in very hot weather. On the second to last day there, we were hit with violent thunderstorms with wind gusts up to 70mph and quarter size hail. The tent next to me was destroyed, and I got not one drop in the tent. Thank you for making my trip fun and safe!

It is a fantastic summer tent . Never had a ventilation issue . As the back wall completely opens while still keeping the inner tent dry.

This is a festival tent, usually the camping grounds have bright lights at night and people stay up late and get up late so you can have some extra hours of sleep when your tent blocks out morning sunlight. The UV shielding works well, too. Ventilation is not the best on the other hand it keeps you relatively warm in cold nights over here in Europe and dry when it rains. It also withstands a lot of wind easily. We own and use this tent on very short car camping trips, at the beach and at festivals since five years now and it is perfect for this purpose- for us. For long distance hikes and bike backing and also for longer stays at camping grounds we have different tents but honestly, I would not use my 400-800USD UL tents on festivals and for camping where the tent stays put in the bright daylight for several days (UV light) and/or may be damaged by drunk people. I got this tent for around 60/70 EUR (I do not remember exactly) and got a reliable, easy to set up tent for this price. When judging a tent I think you always have to look at its purpose and for whom this might be interesting and not everything is for everybody. I would always recommend this tent to friends with a small budget who just need and want only one tent for light camping situations like road trips over here in Europe, Festivals etc. When it comes to price you always get a cheeper tent from some chinese dropshippers but when something is wrong with this Decathlon tent you can just walk into a Decathlon store and you get a full guarantee, repair etc. And with these China tents you never know what you get and when you get a bad tent you cannot send it back and you have no guarantee, spareparts or anything.

For car camping here in Alaska or maybe my Southern Friends in Canada we’d appreciate the black out feature. Here in interior Alaska, we have over 70 days where it’s light all night, and over summer solstice, we have days where the sun doesn’t set. Having the blackout helps.

I can tell you one benefit of those "dark" tents from my niche involvement (which is astrophotography in case you didn't catch by my user name). It's nice to be able to sleep during the day without being overpowered by bright light when you have been up all night long doing captures. The downfall to most of these tents is the fact that the feature that gives them the dark functions result in heat during summer.
But I do have to agree, for most people a "dark" style tent is not a real need.
I currently don't use tents regularly since I have an RV that I use to go to dark sites to set up. I have the bedroom windows blacked out and also the overhead vent. We all prefer sleeping in the dark and usually don't sleep as well when light is present, so as I said, I can see a benefit of "dark" tents. The downfall to them is the very feature that makes them dark will make them uncomfortable during summer months, but in the cooler months when you are chasing other DSO's (fall, winter and early spring) that added "heat retention" can be of benefit.

..do you know it also has a back vent..? I did not see you use it... ..and by the way, what did you expect in 90% humidity? Nothing helps you, maybe that fan a little...
..I have the same tent and never had a problem with it, especially in hot or stormy weather. The insulation really works (I slept in it in 30 celsius, it was not pleasant, but I slept), you can leave the door open at the top to have more ventilation. In heavy rain if the tent collects water, it just partly folds, the water flows off, and then immediately stands back up (assuming you set it up as you did, not using the included guylines), same in the wind. A worker in local decathlon told me, that in a big storm all the tents outside got destroyed or lost, except the "2seconds" tents. They folded or ran into the fields (or both), but all were found and returned to the display in working order. Im mostly not even using the side guylines, just four stakes...

I have 2 fresh and black tents but I have only used the smaller 4 person 3 second (😉) one. Don't care that is heavy as it is transported in my car. Here in Europe we are having 35°C in the day and 15°C at night. As sunrise is at around 4 am in June I happy that my youngest daughter can still sleep until 7 am no problem. We don't have the ventilation problems you had but it is a slightly bigger tent. I am 60 and have had enough of sleeping on an air mattress so I bought a huge fisherman's bed 1m x 2,1m and 50cm high legs and a new F&B tent to go with it. It has 3 inflatable hoops and just one pole. Definitely a family tent. Can't wait to try it out.

Ventilation also not very good, even if you open up the vent at the rear. I've used this Fresh & Black 2 Second 2 pop up tent for years in high humidity at night since I live in a tropical country and I Loved every minute of it. Heat and humidity inside the tent wasn't an issue at all. I never forget to open the back ventilation by pulling the blue string and opening up like a horizontal curtain. I can linger in the tent for a few hours after sunrise due to its Fresh & Black feature. Great pop-up tent, imho. Cheers!

I remember a few years ago, a big line of thunderstorms came through and I just got off work and wanted to meet two friends at the Applebee's for some lunch. We were watching the radar on the news and when we got finished there was a big break and I thought okay, looks like a great time to head to the house. Started driving and the rain came and it was horrible. Kept getting worse and worse and I thought man it's going to rip the awning off of gas stations. Probably the only safe place would be to car wash up ahead on the right. By the time I got there the water on the roadway seem to be 6 in deep and people were hydroplaning sideways. I pulled into the car wash, got outside and took some spectacular video with an old blackberry curve that I had. After it died down I'm headed to the house and found out the next day that I was actually in the edge of an f2 tornado. It went the next County over in the Cocke County, knock several signs down and rip the roof off part of the high school and some buildings. As a trained storm spotter that was about as close as I want to get. LOL 😂
