  • In this short video, recorded in India soon after he came out of retreat in November 2015, Mingyur Rinpoche talks about awareness. Using one of his tricks, he reminds us that we are okay as long as we stay with awareness and don't get lost or "mindless."
    This video includes subtitles in English, Spanish, French, Bulgarian, German, Portuguese, Swedish and Russian.

    When he says "get lost" I know exactly what he means. It's those thoughts that come randomly and when I become aware, I can't seem to recall the thoughts of just moments ago. When he says being "aware but not meditation", I know it's being aware of those thoughts, even the random ones, and being able to trace them all the way back to where they started.
    Since I've started meditating, I've been more and more aware of my thoughts and the difference between the two. It's been a very interesting journey so far. Now, when I'm aware of thoughts, i seem to be able to examine the content of those thoughts more deeply. It leads to some entertaining ideas and insightful self-reflection. Unlike the superficial random thoughts of the "monkey mind."

      I can understand that. Grooming has long been an important part of many religions, and most especially Buddhism.
      From what I can gather, Rinpoche was taking part in an intensive retreat. Maybe grooming was kept to the sidelines here? He looks clean, with or without the hair. I believe that as long as we are clean, that is more important than shaving.

    • @danmcdaid
      @danmcdaid Місяць тому

      Occasional thoughts about the past or future are fine; mindfulness (as I understand it) helps those who think constantly over the mistakes of the past, or worry constantly over what's coming in the future, and are therefore failing to live a meaningful and satisfying life in the here and now.
