Man I thoroughly enjoy listening/watching videos with you in them. Your voice was made to tell stories man! Everytime I see a video with you I'm excited because I know it's gonna be a good one lol thanks for the sweet content.
When I was a nine year(now im 34) old I always loved camp and/or trivia story's and this was really a call back of those days! Thanks alot it was Awesome!! Keep up the goodwork
(Ryan) It is good. Also when Gideon saw Jace after his time as a pirate on Ixalan, and Jace was all ripped from living a hard life at sea, and Gideon wanted to become his gym buddy lol
Sooo good! Every card tells a story, that is one of the best things about this game. art, mechanics, flavor text, they are rarely as shallow as they seem. I love the excitement of opening a booster mixed in with the thrill of a good tale!
I love your vids. Me and my best friend watch all them when a new one comes out while we play magic together it's now become kinda like a tradition so thank you
Love all the lore, especially all the massive continuity... and as someone who grew up on the Brothers' War novels and Weatherlight comic books, I'd love to hear you do a recap of those sagas... but probably in multiple episodes lol
We need a new series called "Grandpa Ryan's fireplace" in which you tell us these old amazing fables while sipping milk, eating cookies and rubbing our hair from time to time. ASAP.
Hey, first I'd like to thank you for the videos, I really enjoy them. Just one little thing about Squee, when Gerrard went to the Stronghold to fight Crovax, Squee was there too, so Crovax, using his Evincar powers granted Squee the gift of immortality, just so he can watch him being killed over and over again. But the effect wouldn't wear off even though those events took place many years ago.
I better be able to notice the difference from this matte black background and your new matte black background to justify this. Maybe if the next black is more black than the current black? Yeah, that'd be good
(Ryan) Honestly the part I'm looking forward to most is not being next to an elevator bank, and having 50 ruined takes from the chime going off as it reaches my floor.
I love this series and I love the idea of doing a grab bag episode of under represented characters, though I'd love to see you guys dig for characters that dont get a lot of light rather than random pulls from a pack. Love the idea though, and love the series.
I'm curious about a lot of the stories in the Magic world, but find the fiction on the Wizards site unreadable. Ryan to the rescue! You make the lore fun. I'd love to see a video about the Nalaar family.
I wonder if Gideon ever looks back at his life since he first planeswalked and thinks to himself "YOU COULD HAVE CHOSE ANYTHING BUT YOU CHOSE GIDEON JURA! WHAT EVEN IS A GIDEON?!"
I love the Vorthos aspect of these videos. And it would be better if one of your other TCGPlayer mates gave you random 15 rares from all across history and you have to show how they interconnect (ok maybe only 10.) Keep up the good work, see you after the holidays.
Can we please get som more stories of Alara!?!?! It was my first set and I love the lore of it! Plus you get to talk about Ajani and Tezzeret's home plane, and about Elspeth and Sarkhan. And the fight at the Maelstrom with Nicol Bolas.
That goblin sounds similar to a Warhammer story. There's a human military commander who is feared by the orks and is thought unkillable because he saw a vision of their gods. Because orks share a psychic field that makes something true if enough of them believe it, the human commander is essentially immortal and beloved by the ork gods.
The concept is pretty cool. I wish each one were a bit longer and more rehearsed. Obviously you can’t rehearse much because you open the pack and pick a card and talk about it but you can do it like this: open the pack, pick a card, then cut to a script with pictures and whatnot
If I remember the story correctly, Kytheon's name-change to Gideon wasn't just a misunderstanding. It's actually that those sounds can't be replicated in the Bant language, so "Gideon Jura" was the closest approximation they could make. This happens all the time in the real world. Yay Linguistics!
Oh wow , just wow ! I started playing magic 8 months ago and I had absolutely no idea there were this elaborate storylines behind all the cards and characters. I really enjoy these videos. Now my spark is ignited and I defintely want to know more about the background and you got a new subscriber here , is there anyway to link any kind of magic story which really starts at the very beginning of it all ? Thanks and looking forward to a new one , happy new year !
(Ryan) Thanks for the sub! The best place to get started on the story is the official website: magic.wizards.com/en/story Head down to the story archive section and poke around. I suggest starting with Magic Origins but just about anything will work. Enjoy!
I like the series but what happened to the same production value in the Chronicles of Bolas this last summer? The background music definitely added some extra spice to his story telling.
(Ryan) I got mixed reviews on the music - some people loved it, while others found it really distracting and repetitive. I'm taking a break on it for now but it will probably come back again in the future. Thanks for the feedback!
this is by far my favourite magic series, please keep this up, you're amazing.
"Hey! You! What's your name?"
* mumbles* "Kytheon Iora."
"What? Gideon Jura? All right!"
Exactly this.
this is exactly what happened
This is exactly what happens to any foreigner in U.S.A. :)))
Do another. I love random lore great work as ever
As someone who is really new to magic, I really appreciate hearing the stories and histories of each of the characters. Keep it up!
I loved this, but my skin crawled when you went over how Kitheon became Gideon. I knew the story already but... dear god that's so dumb
Bro I didn't even realize how amazing the magic story line was until I started watching these videos
Thanks you SO much and keep up the amazing work!
These videos about magic history are so cool!! thank you!
Man I thoroughly enjoy listening/watching videos with you in them. Your voice was made to tell stories man! Everytime I see a video with you I'm excited because I know it's gonna be a good one lol thanks for the sweet content.
Keep em coming. You could talk about whatever lore you want and I'll watch all of them. Your knowledge and enthusiasm brings be back every time.
When I was a nine year(now im 34) old I always loved camp and/or trivia story's and this was really a call back of those days! Thanks alot it was Awesome!! Keep up the goodwork
Something else you neglected to mention about Gideon is Liliana's habit of calling him "beefslab" which is honestly the best nickname ever.
(Ryan) It is good. Also when Gideon saw Jace after his time as a pirate on Ixalan, and Jace was all ripped from living a hard life at sea, and Gideon wanted to become his gym buddy lol
This actually happened? I need to read this.
Sooo good! Every card tells a story, that is one of the best things about this game. art, mechanics, flavor text, they are rarely as shallow as they seem. I love the excitement of opening a booster mixed in with the thrill of a good tale!
Make this a series! I learned a lot about lore in just one video!
That pack opening ASMR.
(Ryan) I had to look this one up but totally get it now!
Great video, as always! I love lore, and watching you trying to remember all of the little tid-bits is great! Do this one again.
Awesome. Do more stories at random like this.
More of these! Not too often though, I like you breaking down stuff, especially with the upcoming set!
This was excellent, I would love to see more!
I love your vids. Me and my best friend watch all them when a new one comes out while we play magic together it's now become kinda like a tradition so thank you
Enjoy the lore and your retellings, I like this random story take but only sporadically to break things up, as the more focused videos I prefer :)
"Gideon, formerly 'Kytheon'" is the best story in Magic so far.
That was great!! Like this format
Love this mechanic of storytelling!!!
Please more videos like this!!!
This was great! You should definitely make another episode. Love your work!
Me: Peacefully watching Magic Arcanum
Hoster: Takes out two Ultimate Masters packs
Me: Damm, this guy must be rich!
(Ryan) They were a gift. I was very good this year. :-)
Ryan Gomez, MTG multiverse walking encyclopedia planeswalker.
This was a really awesome concept. Your videos and love for the game is so wholesome. Keep the great videos coming !!
Love all the lore, especially all the massive continuity... and as someone who grew up on the Brothers' War novels and Weatherlight comic books, I'd love to hear you do a recap of those sagas... but probably in multiple episodes lol
This was a absolutely great vid. Can’t wait to see more!
I love this so much, please keep doing more vids, especially after Allegiance comes out. Would love a vid on Eldrazi :)
I loved this! we need more of this.
this video is so underrated. what a good short watch something to do between the normal videos love it!!!
This is pretty smart. It treats Magic cards like they're from a photo album.
I love the idea, but I think it'd be cool if you went through all the cards in a single pack! There are some cool non-rare cards out there!
We need a new series called "Grandpa Ryan's fireplace" in which you tell us these old amazing fables while sipping milk, eating cookies and rubbing our hair from time to time.
ASAP.
this was super fun! i want more!
I just consumed all the Arcana videos and this was the last one I saw. All are great - this one is amazing. Moar plz.
give us a series on the old lore, like the weatherlight saga and the other old sets.
This was great, crack-a-pack seems like a great way to tell magic lore!
Awesome video format, it should be a serie
plz do more from any random old boosters! And remember, you promised us the whole weatherlight storyline!!! :)
I liked this video! Great concept that can take us just about anywhere in the world of Magic :)
I love this series and I love the idea of doing a grab bag episode of under represented characters, though I'd love to see you guys dig for characters that dont get a lot of light rather than random pulls from a pack. Love the idea though, and love the series.
I always laugh about Giddeo just not correcting people but then I remember that everyone at my first job thought my name was Ethan
Keep it going! Also, regular videos those are always fun, too.
I greatly enjoyed it... Very fun!
How lucky you opened 2 legendaries with rich history to them, fantastic.
(Ryan) There are a lot of cards with that kind of history in Ultimate Masters. The odds were pretty stacked in my favor, actually!
I'm curious about a lot of the stories in the Magic world, but find the fiction on the Wizards site unreadable. Ryan to the rescue! You make the lore fun.
I'd love to see a video about the Nalaar family.
(Ryan) Thank you for the kind words, and that's a great idea for a topic. I'll add it to the list!
It was amazing! pls do more!
The Gideon story made me laugh pretty hard. But yeah a few more of these would be awesome just the little bits a lore here and there are awesome
Awesome series ^-^ ty! Please keep it up.
I liked this. It was original and fun.
Though I would’ve liked to hear more on Tasigur rather than just the Easter egg of him being a necklace.
This is quite a delicious video. My compliments to the chef.
(Ryan) I like this idea!
All of these videos are awesome
That was fun! Do more plz!
Squee = Magic: the Gathering Jar Jar
Very funny and amazing video keep it up you guys!
Loved the Idea. Great Job!
I saw your videos and find them very entertaining. You could tell the story of Karn or teferi, thats a juice one
Live-stream one of these sometime before the holiday!
(Ryan) I would love to, but that's not really something I can do in this studio...my new one, however... :-)
Can we please get som more stories of Alara!?!?! It was my first set and I love the lore of it! Plus you get to talk about Ajani and Tezzeret's home plane, and about Elspeth and Sarkhan. And the fight at the Maelstrom with Nicol Bolas.
Definitely do more of this.

I love you. Simple as that
Thats that pretty cool. Yeah keep it coming
Nice format.
Please do more stocking stuffers so entertaining!!!!!!!!
This is so neat please do more
Should've talked about the meeting of the Khans, Tasigur has a pretty key role there
I never got Squee’s Toy until now. Thank you sir
If I remember the story correctly, Kytheon's name-change to Gideon wasn't just a misunderstanding. It's actually that those sounds can't be replicated in the Bant language, so "Gideon Jura" was the closest approximation they could make. This happens all the time in the real world.
Yay Linguistics!
awesome!! I'll love more of this
Great video! Looking forward to the next one! :)
Stocking stuffers series hell yeah
Can we get some videos on Yawgmoth? I wasn't playing back then and am really interested in the story from all the flavor texts on old cards.
Missed opportunity to tell us the lore of Zombie Token
I really want to hear more about the weather light saga
Best storytelling ever xD keep on going :)
What a nice christmas gift!!!! Thxxx
I'd like to know more about Myr. I'm a newer player, and they have always been my favorite race.
Oh wow , just wow ! I started playing magic 8 months ago and I had absolutely no idea there were this elaborate storylines behind all the cards and characters. I really enjoy these videos.

i really enjoyed this video!
Yes do more!
I like this stocking stuffer
Yes, more please!
Squeeze actually is immortal, Yawgmoth made him unkillable so he could behead him everyday
This was great
I thought Yawgmoth made Squee immortal. And that's where the Mechanic comes from.
Isn't Kavanaugh friends with Squee from Yale? [:
I would like more videos like this
Fuck, this Lore is amazing. Sny recommended books for a starter?
Nice stories!

Wasn’t squee’s toy part of the legacy weapon?
Awesome!
