It is definitely not an essential part of her character. She had no character for 8 years, then shoehorned that aspect of her in, less than 4 years ago. Wizards will do anything for a buck. I do applaud them for not making her over-sexualized early on.

My first one was Chandra the Firebrand at the 2011 Magic Celebration
Mine was Elspeth, Sun Champion
M15 prerelease, pulled a foil Chandra, Pyromaster. That was the day magic sunk it's teeth into me.
Mine was a foil Nissa, Who Shakes The World and a Vivien, Champion Of The Wilds (non-foil)
It was my first booster pack every purchased

Bit that he skipped is basically everything that happens in the Purifying Fire book (there's a manga as well).
Jace's previous encounter with Chandra before Zendikar was back when he still worked for the Infinite Consortium, I think. He was tasked with tracking her down and taking back a scroll she stole. Which he did. It was this same scroll that led her to Zendikar in the first place, which led to the release of the Eldrazi.
Gideon's previous encounter with Chandra before Zendikar involved him helping her out when she was captured by a group of zealots trying to impose order in Regatha. They had a nice emotional moment where she aired out her grievances, which helped her go through the magic flame thingie unscathed. Them she killed hundreds/thousands of people in a city just for the heck of it and left the plane to search for Zendikar.
Also, all of this is canon for future story lines. The online chapters of Aether Rebellion mention it in passing.
Chandra is to me the de facto protagonist of Magic. And she should be the protagonist in any animated adaptation

God, Nicol Bolas was such a BEAST in Amonkhet i can't help but feel War Of The Spark really didn't do justice to my favorite goblin-faced Dragon.
Great video as always. I forgot Baral was an important figure in Chandra's story, and not just "That goddamn storm card".
Personally, I think that it's possible chandra and nissas relationship is less passionate and more tender, red often embodies emotion yes, but is often characterized as intense emotion, and the feelings chandra has for nissa are not those characterized by red mana, hence chandras struggle with them.

You should have talked about what happens in the comic series based around Chandra. They’re set after MTGWAR and give an idea of what she’s up to during that time.
I always look forward to your videos Ryan. As a long time Vorthos (though not as long as you) I appreciate the detail and passion you put into them. Though I do have to say the Predator Slivers have grown on me but I still prefer old school. Can't wait to see what you put out next.

Despite it's lack of power, Amonkhet was my favourite block. I know a bit abiut it already, but what I love about these videos is you often fill in blanks and add story elements that many often miss x3
Chandra and Nissa were going to become a fully fledged couple, but the WotC legal team stepped in, much to the chagrin of the creative team. Something about WotC wanting to sell Magic cards in places like Russia and such. I have this on good authority from someone from WotC itself.

(Ryan) I think it was really hard for them to anticipate how important planeswalkers would be after getting introduced in Lorwyn. For having so many different artists, writers, and creative team members touch Chandra's story since then, I think they've actually done a pretty good job of giving her (and the rest) a reasonably consistent experience, minor retcons notwithstanding.

Chandra is bad at feelings. Not like a blue character where they try to keep a lid on things, but she has so many feelings she doesn't know what to do with half of them.
So could it be possible that a romance between Nissa and Chandra could grow aflame

just gonna expand a bit on the probable nature of nissa/chandra, there would've had to have been SOME form of connection between them beforehand to handle literal leylines between them with the ability they did... just a thing to think on
Okay, so the leyline connection between Nissa and Chadra back on Zendikar actually makes the 'romance(?)' gain some plausibility. If Wizards were actually brave they'd say that Chandra's hesitance is because she *knows* it's not actual physical attraction but because of some mind-melding and she's being an adult by not acting on it. But this being the era of wokeness and wamyns I have no doubt they'll wimp out and ship them in some manner later.
Regardless, Jace still sucks.
I am really interested in knowing more about Darksteel, I bought a box of cards from a MTG player who had moved out mom and it had a quite a few darksteel cards in them, I'm not big on artifacts for my deck (I'm as big on green as my creatures are).
All I can find is that they are from mirrodin, it's rare, and it is hard to work with.
Also, Darksteel ingot has no smithing purposes.
This just makes me want to make a Chandra themed deck

Could also just use Chandra, Fire of Kaladesh (because she's a legendary creature) and put Pia in the deck and see if Chandra ever gets reunited with her...

So Liliana is the den mother of the almost all female gate watch. I still foam at the mouth at the fact that Wizards didn’t let Liliana die.
She can't die yet, she needs to deal with the fact that she turned Garruk into a demon (and he was conspicuously absent from WAR...). Her demonic contract arc is over but they've been hinting that something bad is going to happen with the Chain Veil if she loses control even for a little bit, and Garruk's story is very much tied to it too.

Personally I'm happy, since it was really fitting that Hazoret's spear got to do the job. She deserved revenge against Bolas more than about anyone else.

There's some indications that either the next set or a set in the near future will bring us back to theros.
I wouldn't be surprised if Chandra high on her victory in the war of the spark would jump at a chance to test herself against the tyrannical Gods of that plane.

None of the planeswalkers involved knew Eldrazi even existed - as usual, Bolas was working behind the scenes to lure then there and have them unwittingly fulfill the conditions to break the seal.

I'm not a fan of the hand waving over the Zendikar map thing here. The unleashing of the Eldrazi, supposedly orchestrated by Nicol Bolas, wouldn't have happened if Chandra wasn't set on that path. I guess Duels of the Planeswalkers 2014(which was also headlined by Chandra) explains that a planeswalker named Ramaz who worked for Bolas was the one who told her about the scroll.
(Ryan) I was ready for this comment! Yes, Chadra inadvertently helped release the Eldrazi. But, nobody blames her for it, and she carries no burden of guilt for it. It has literally zero impact on her character now. It doesn't affect how anyone interacts with her, or how she perceives herself. Since there was no long-lasting impact, and the Eldrazi are once again sealed away, and we can assume anyone could have let them out (Bolas would have found someone else, if not Chandra) then I am confident saying it really and truly did not matter in the end.
@@tcgplayercom I suppose you're right. Jace and Sarkhan carried more guilt over their involvement than Chandra did. Nissa doubly so. Fair answer, though if Ramaz ever shows up in nondigital canon it may one day become relevant. In the meantime, you have your point. Lol
