3:38 HOVER FLIGHT (pg. 63 of Core Rulebook): Some very advanced mechs can hover. Hovering characters do not need to move in a straight line, and can remain stationary while airborne without falling. This means that once you start flying in a battle, you never need to land. You can always be in a flying state. It is way better than any flight system/core power/etc.
"The trick to piloting a Dusk Wing isn't about controlling the Light From Dhiyed. Or harnessing it. It's not even letting go and riding it. When you use a Dusk Wing, what you really need to get good at doing is Falling: Falling and trying your best not to scream." -Unknown SSC Security Contractor, serving at [DATA EXPUNGED] during the [DATA EXPUNGED] incident.
I swear, every mech except for the Lancaster has their own unique form of absolute horror. Anytime that pilots get attacked outside their chassis by a mech, the campaign changes genres.
Doesn't the Lanny have the deployable that just shunts your catastrophic heat build-up to the eventual heat death of the universe so you don't have to deal with it right now?
4:14 Flight rules are that if you are able to fly, by default you stay in the air if you've flown since your last turn. Essentially, flight-capable mechs can, well, fly, as long as they keep moving. The Rapid Burst Jump Jet System is an exception in that it doesn't let you do that. The Dusk Wing has Hover. Which means it doesn't care about that. A Dusk Wing fully ignores gravity, they can stay wherever they want for however long they want ( until they get shoved ). You can hover just above the ground to become immune to prone, you can sit a kilometer above the battlefield, whatever you want.
Was going through the comments to say exactly that ! The "when it moves" part that caused the ambiguity is what happens when an entire ttrpg system is written by just two guys I guess; it very much can just Stay Flying (of the hover variety).
One of my Lancemates plays a Duskwing! She's a hoverboard combat sport athlete turned Lancer! We are all still so amazing at how fucking quick that thing can zip about. Plus she won us a game of Motorball with that teleport back to a hologram trick. Although our Lich got hit with a few of the blasts. Don't worry, she's fine.
"It was just a colour out of space-a frightful messenger from unformed realms of infinity beyond all Nature as we know it; from realms whose mere existence stuns the brain and numbs us with the black extra-cosmic gulfs it throws open before our frenzied eyes."
10:25 A neat thing is that the two saves are simultaneous And simultaneous effects resolve in the order that the *user* decides Which means you can make them do the second save first, which means they can be Impaired for the second one
@draghettis6524 You can put an aux weapon in a main mount though. So even if your build is all about auxes, the main/aux is still an upgrade, just one you're not taking advantage of
@@zortechme6337 If you put an aux in it, it's equal, and maybe even a downgrade because that's some of your mech's power budget that you didn't use. Though optimisation concerns usually don't reach this granularity
"They told us the mission was simple. They told us that we'd be able to keep whatever we found in there. That's where our downfall began. Where it ended, where it has always existed. I... oh god I'm still there. WE'RE ALL STILL IN THAT VAULT!" -An excerpt from a Lancer that was sent on the Dhiyed expedition. (Not an actual part of the lore just something I've used in a Lancer campaign I run) Yeah the Dusk Wing is the most 'Horus' of the non-Horus mechs, probably because out of all of the 'normal' manufacturer mechs, this one is the most influenced by paracausal forces.
I can totally see a building around a stained glass theme. Imagine if all the trippy effects were like reality shattering into colorful glass-like fragments.
Aesthetically, my favourite mech in the game. Mechanically, it's my third favourite (Second is Sherman, first is Death's Head) And the first character I ever made was a Duskwing hacker, callsign "Mindflayer" (Inspired by mindflayers from Ultrakill)
I'd love to run a campaign where everyone uses a 1/2 mech around the idea of being an agile strike team but also just because I love power armor sometimes more than a regular mech
Also if you want to play into the current tech race, shrinking the cold fusion reactor. While there are plenty of hardsuits the idea that true size 1/2 mechs each carry this reactor and skeleton to hold these systems, giving them an elite cutting edge feel. Also Constellar Midnight flashpoint in the book is a fantastic excuse for a party of size 1/2 infiltration focused stealth mechs.
Honestly with the mix and matching mechanics that's absolutely doable. Just make sure you got a Caliban to completely dumpster anything bigger than a exosuit lol
someone might have already mentioned, but it's always fun to re-mention. Dusk Wing's core active also works with Jager Kunst I, which all count as "unique movement" so you could litter the battlefield with holograms that explode on contact, it's a stupid amount of area denial. This case you don't wanna use your teleport though because it'll shatter all the clones and only do 1d6
This series on Lancer is great, you have a good blend of actual information combined with entertaining format. It feels like only yesterday you gave us the Lancaster video, and now we're about to talk about one of my favorite mechs... and based on the last second of this video, I can already tell it's going to be quite the sight to see.
My partner is swapping to Dusk Wing after losing their Kidd for narrative reasons. I'm even more excited to see what they do with it now! I'm actually kinda tempted to take a couple levels in it as well to give my Goblin that Flicker Field Projector. With that and Construct Image: False Idol it would be a nightmare to hit. Also thanks so much for making these videos! One of the hardest parts about getting other people into Lancer is that there's just not nearly enough good videos on it, especially not like the ones you make. I've already gotten a few more friends into it because of these.
I tried, but something about the text to speech and static imagery just doesn't work for me, or most of the people I talk to. I have nothing but respect for 11dragonkid, though!
I use Duskwing Licenses on my Mourning Cloak, with Flicker Field we say it is an actual invisibility because it give you invisibility anyway. So there you are, your system detecting there is something in front of you. Your friend say there is something. So you shoot at that general direction... nothing. There is nothing. And then the sensor blipping and it move to behind you. But there is still nothing. And it blip again and it already inside the building. So you thought it was nothing. Just an error in the radar... until the building explode. Because Invisibility with Fade Cloak and teleportation is just a Ghost Mech.
Despite it's fairly close-ended kit within license, I love how versatile the Dusk Wing is as a whole. It suffers without a bit of investment in mobility and stealth, but that freedom of positioning and control of information just gives you so, so much leverage. My personal favorite load for the mech mixes both Death Head and Raleigh kit into the mix, with a combination of stealth and weapon talents, and a Ghostweave chaser to double down on the incognito capabilities. The result is the ability to be basically anywhere on the map, dealing reasonable damage and disabling enemies practically at will, all while working from whatever range is most appropriate to the encounter. Getting flyswatted is just a skill issue at that point.
My personal favorite combination with the duskwing is gorgon. Its weapons work very well as team-oriented harassment tools, and the systems give the Gorgon a lot of flexibility to play with.
Superheavy Bracing is such a strong option for the Dusk Wing :3 getting that high mobility with a superheavy weapon means you can always be in the right place, and return fire will generally miss you. Flying means melee attacks don't hit you, it's great. :3
The Atlas isn't going to be for a long while, but I have to mention my favorite synergy with the Dusk Wing's core power. It creates a separate hologram for every unique movement in a turn, which means that with the Atlas's Jager Kunst I, you create a hologram for EVERY TIME you use JKI's two spaces of movement, and flood the battlefield with exploding holograms. Just be sure you won't annoy your GM if you do this. It's a lot of tokens.
I love your videos and I love that you are exploring other rpgs aside from DnD. Really excited to see more videos for Lancer, Cain and Maleghast videos from you. :D
@Zaktact I think I may have caught an error on your mount readings: An aux mount takes an aux weapon, a main mount takes a main or an aux, and a heavy takes a heavy, main or aux. An aux/aux takes 2 aux, and a main/aux takes... well, you get it. A flex mount takes either one main or TWO aux - being a main mount OR an aux/aux mount, thus the flexibility. Hope this helps!
I'm thinking about giving a Caliban/Atlas Dusk Wing levels and calling it the Force Push because it's hard to see but damn near impossible to stop when it rams.
The Dusk wing is one of my favourite mechs when it comes to eldritch shenanigans in mechs that SHOULDN'T be, it's the way it capitalizes on the nightmares some fools found in an infinite vault of Things in space My favourite eldritch mech however, is the Litch. Because that thing isn't a Mech. It's the empty husk or a fucking Angel (judging by it looking like the Angel's Physical armor-bodies from Kill Six Billion Demons, webcomic made BY the Litch's designer and artist for the whole of LANCER) there is no cockpit, there is no Mechanics, that is an empty armor of steel from something felled that should have never been able to, absolutely Wild
Dusk Wing is my favorite dipping sauce license for other mechs because Neurospike is such a fun tech attack. Also, Flicker Field Projector should not be a 1 system point skill.
Okay question regarding the wording of Hologram Teleport. It says you teleport "to the location" of a hologram. Not switch places with it, you're just in the same space. And then all holograms explode. Considering it doesn't say the hologram you moved to disappears or goes to where you were, does that mean you get hit with the 1d6 energy blast?

the saddest part of this series is knowing that caliban isn't gonna be covered in god know's how long
It'll be a long and dark time til then, but we can make it.
You think Caliban is going to take a while? I’m waiting on White Witch. 😔
Hey, upshot of that? All those videos under Zak's belt, the Caliban one will be a banger. :)
Just insert Rip and Tear over gameplay of DOOM 2016 for 15 minutes and that’s basically it.

I swear, every mech except for the Lancaster has their own unique form of absolute horror. Anytime that pilots get attacked outside their chassis by a mech, the campaign changes genres.
Lancaster is the silly cozy optimistic friend who will always buy you a coffee and cheer you up
The Pyro who went up against me can tell you the surprising horror of a mechanic too tired for your shit.
The Lancaster has the horror of monopolies stealing the improvements that working class people make and making it their own
Doesn't the Lanny have the deployable that just shunts your catastrophic heat build-up to the eventual heat death of the universe so you don't have to deal with it right now?
Idk, the Death’s Head and Barbarossa were pretty tame. Black Witch too.
