Turning the giant attic above my workshop into a stock room for bikes. Yes, it has a fire pole

- Did you know that there is an attic above my workshop? Well, there is, and it's enormous. With the recent completion of a staircase entering the attic from the outside, I'm putting it to use now to store bikes, parts, and tires. We also have a very interesting way to get back down to the workshop.

Should put in a bucket pulley system so you can lower stuff down without having to make multiple trips
But a pedal system to raise and lower the bucket!!
Elevator platform that slides around the pole
@@MrJamesLuz If this man doesnt make a bike powered elevator of some type i will be very disappointed.
@@mrsaucy1112and it better be super sketchy too!
Yep, thinking the whole time it needs a dumbwaiter of some kind. And probably a bike pulley lift on the outside like you see on hay barns.
From small Florida shed to bike attic. What a journey
Used to be just a closet at some point
used to watch back in bike closet days, first vid i’ve seen in ages, super crazy
That staircase looks like it could be used as a roll in to a new trail!
Seth, on your 2x8 comment for wheeling bikes up the stairs, one way to avoid your daughter playing with it is to have it hinged off the banister rail, that way you can have it in an upright locked position when not needed, and then when you need to use it unlock it and flap it down onto the stairs, you can even make it look like a facing board for the banister.
This is brilliant.
Aye
I was thinking just putting a gate at the bottom of the stairs. This way they are completely closed off to the kids when he's not up there. I'd also be wanting something around the firepole at the top to prevent any kid from falling through accidently.
And let's not pretend that Seth won't at least be considering riding bikes down this staircase. He needs this! It could be another flight deck!
That would be sick
These build videos always make me want to pull out the tools and do half of a project.
Taking out the tools is half a project
@@TJO1733 And putting them away is the other half.
@@kmarcum7832 and listening the constant reminding for the wife is another
I frickin love this. Speak truth!
lolll sammmeeee
Seth makes everything entertaining 😂
He is one of the best storytellers ever😅😅😅
NPC soundin Ahh
Your videos helped get me into engineering. I watched you and Alex convert his van. I started watching your guys videos and that got me into mountain biking. Eventually my bike broke, so I watched your videos and park tool to fix it myself. This lead to me taking apart my bike and putting it back together and then I decided I wanted to design things and be an engineer. I’m now at Purdue Engineering which is one of the best engineering schools in the country, and I love it here. So indirectly your videos changed the course of my life. Excited to see more flip bike and repair videos!
That is so inspiring to hear!
That's really cool, congratulations
"Seth´s Bikehacks" is now more appropriate again than ever. Fun to see the hole loop of bike entertainment coming to a closure. Keep it up :D
Sometimes I think Seth has a home improvement channel masquerading as a biking channel.
Seth never fails to entertain me
Seth, you may have a future career as an exotic dancer.
When you said you knew what we were thinking when going up the stairs, that was close. However my actual thought was "I bet Seth is thinking about riding down these stairs" haha
Yes! Ever since I saw the attic, I knew it had potential!
I love how you customize your house to match your personal needs, I remember when this was just a garage for three cars. Most people would have just kept it this way not even bothering utilizing the attic.
You should cut those bolts at the top of the fire pole before you hit your head on them. 🤕😅
i saw those and thought the same - OUCH
I saw that too. That would send Seth down in record time.
I use to be a bit of a hoarder of bike parts myself, but over the last 10 yrs my supply has dwindled down from repairing and building up older bikes for friends and neighbors.
You should name the bike attic, the "Bike Addict"😊
10/10 best name suggestion!
Thought of the same thing 😂😂
My thought exactly :D
Nice storage solutions! Something I find really useful on small draws is to hot glue one item from each draw to the front. Then you can imminently know what’s inside without having to read the label.
Wow that’s genius. Thanks for the great tip!
Great job. Wish my attic was this organized. Also, love all the rebuilds!
I miss the longer videos of seeing seth build it step by step i enjoy every second
"Remember, it's not hoarding if it's organized." Words to live by.
I definitely appreciate the storage and tidying up the place. Lord knows my shed needs all of that.
“Less is More” Gotta love the thoughtful and pointed message on Seth’s t-shirt!
Seeing the litespeed bike, I think it would be pretty cool to see you and Alex do another bike packing trip somewhere.
Yes!
I was shocked to see he still had that 😅
Im curious what the story behind that litespeed is
@@BrentZahradnik Seth and Alex from singletrack sampler did a few bikepacking videos a few years back, and seth rode that bike.
The fact that you didn't send it down the stairs on a bike was a little surprising. Great video as always
Label maker for the win! Everyone needs one, even a basic one. Makes your life so much easier to find stuff when you need it, especially with organizer bins.
The fire pole, climbing it, sliding down onto the bike stand, it's all the perfect amount of chaos. 😂
Good work Seth! 4:11 How about making slide/ramp for the bikes on a hinge? Then you flip it to the side when you are done moving bikes and its just a regular stair.
Fantastic idea Seth, that's a HUGE space to utilise, and who wouldn't love a firepole to play on :)
Maybe worth making the door at top of stairs taller so you don't have to duck every time?
Maybe it'd look weird from the outside, having this tall door real close to the roof? Idk it would for sure be more comfortable than ducking but I guess that could be an issue.
There’s always another optimization! So far on about 40 trips in and out I hit my head 2 times, so by the end of the year it should cost me 12 to 14 head impacts, or whatever it would take to make the opening bigger. There is a light and a fair bit of framing above the door and so it might not be possible to improve it much. Luckily I can just climb the firepole with plenty of headroom.
Great vid dude! Perhaps hinges on the doors atop the fire pole?
@@SethsBikeHacks The framing above the door is the header for the door opening and could be moved up higher. You would just need to relocate the electrical, which you already seem comfortable doing.
It's a door for Seth, not an NBA star 😂😂❤
Your building, project and bike build videos are the best!
These organizational videos are so satisfying.
That was so satisfying! Love getting stuff decluttered and organized. What a relief!
First reply to BKXC's comment!
I 100% agree with giving old stuff new life. I recently got a 20ish year old Marin that I've been using to get around town because my ebike is in need of repairs I currently don't have the money or tools to do myself. It's been an adjustment going back to no pedal assist but I have been amazed at how well it's held up after a basic tune up
The staircase redundancy bit at the beginning definitely made me chuckle. Wish I was as handy as you are! You make these projects seem so easy!
This guy is extremely organized. He needs to come over my garage!
Always feels like Friday - end of work week when Seth uploads!
In a few years this channel is gonna turn into “Seth’s bike shop” and I’ll probably still be watching
Bike restos/flip bike is by far your best content, would gladly watch lots more of it.
Absolutely the best use of space and ingenuity I've ever seen. That is so impressive.
Haha I feel like Seth is still a kid at heart love this idea and so much fun! 😂🤘🏼
Add a winch or drop line so you can lower things down through the ceiling without dropping them.
Thinking the exact same thing - like a dumb waiter. But hearing Seth talk about the stair plank it might end up being too tempting for his daugther to ride! 😂
I definitely learned something today: you actually use all that workout equipment in your basement. Climbing up a pole? I'm impressed.
Watching you organize fills my cup!
Love it, so jealous! I have two questions: why didn't you build a taller door and when are we going to see a review of the best bikes to ride down stairs?
Next project: an elevator
I love how simple you made the solutions. Very easy to make and yet it has all of the function you need.
Awesome looking storage, i love how straightforward it is.
Always entertained!
Always envious of your bike shop with attic and office.
You’ve built it all. Nice work Seth.
This garage just keeps going. I would not be surprised if it had a basement. Love the shop videos
Such a great build. Your shop is a dream!
That's fricking awesome. And much needed!
I want a compilation at the end of the year of all the times someone accidentally runs into the pole!
These organizing videos are the best!
This is inspiring, as I'm waiting another couple months for cooler weather so I can clean my attic out and organize it better... I'm basically turning half of it into a bike storage area, and the other half to where I can move much of my garage items up to it to clear floor space for bike repairs and projects.
This was great; honestly one of my favorite videos on this channel so far.
love love love the repair and restore focus
Pure genius I enjoyed watching this very much.
I love that you are restoring bikes. The industry is obsessed with new. Seth you just keep getting better man! Nice work.
That’s just the greatest garage structure ever built. We need an updated garage/workshop tour/recap
FINALLY, I missed this kind of videos!
I am so jealous of the fire pole! Your workshop is amazing! Keep it up.
I’m excited that there is going to be more bike repair/ rebuild videos. This channel convinced me to strip my 2009 29er down to the the frame and rebuild it back better than ever. It’s still a work in progress, but I like being the old guy on the hard tail that is basically a one of a kind ride.
Beautiful!
Looks awesome!
Absolutely love it man! I take the same philosophy with my '95 Toyota Camry still driving strong with some replacement parts. Reduce. Reuse. Then Recycle.
Love the bike restorations! Glad we will see more
Why is it so fun to watch someone renovating their house
I love your creative and pragmatic solutions for hoarding stuff :)
Seth, this is the stuff. Love these kinds of videos. Keep it up amigo.
I typically would not watch mtb vids where people are just in a shop but Seths content is so amazing every time I see a new video I am intrigued to watch, I watch your videos even if I did not mountain bike.
Yes Seth! More Flip Bike! I just modernized a Trek Xcalibur from a 2x7 to a 1x10 with an upgraded air fork. Was really fun to tinker with the bike and learn some new skills along the build.
Inspiration right here. Nice work dude
It is always fun and ton of useful information while watching you building smth and restoring bikes!
Oh man, Seth. Grinning happy for you. 💙this video! Genius, simple storage solutions. Pure function/workflow 🔥
That is bad ass! And yes, we enjoy the builds! Restoring a few years old bike is great!
Great video Seth. I thoroughly enjoyed this one. Keep 'em comin!
Well done, Seth. Awesome work. Love the Bike Flip episodes. Also, that smile after you slid down the pole with the bike attached to the bottom was the best. Keep up the great work.
You are the best, Seth! ❤️
I used to have an attic like that, but it was just way smaller. I used it to work on bikes and store them as well. It was a pain to get them up and down for sure. Thanks for sharing.
Love this,totally educational and entertaining
Can’t wait to see the builds from this
Nice one, Seth. More of this!!!
These videos are the reason i fell in love with this channel
Organization. SO SATISFYING!
Great solution for storage and love the videos
from seeing you store bikes in a closet to this kind of setup is so cool to see, keep being inspiring Seth!
Seth, you are living our best life for us!
You’ve got a cool setup. Fun to see it all.
I look forward to seeing more of the restoration and rebuild videos. Those are indeed the ones I like
Your videos got me back on a bike at 39 and hitting jump and I watched your video on balance bikes and my daughter is flying around now and I new what one to get but your video so you rock Seth.
Looks Good!
Thats a great Idea Seth! Sadly I don't have a big enough attic to do all this. But adding some insulitaion could save you a heat stroke on those summer days.
This is awesome. your videos have been such a resource for me. Continue the great content!
Bravo Seth!
I remeber when you built ur office nice to see how far it came and so neat to put the fire pole brings the childs heart in all that use it.
Brilliant!!!
YESSSS! I am psyched to see your builds! Great space and fun, funny, and informative as usual. Keep it coming.
seth you are my hero in building efficient stuff
The ultimate bike barn. Love it.
Seth Ive been a subscriber ever since you uploaded alot of Bike Hacks and tutorials in your small backyard with a small closet as a storage unit. Now look at this place. Its now a huge thing for the channel. Keep doing what you do and keep up the good work. 🤘🤘🤘
Definitely a huge step in the right direction I love the old bike fixing videos
Gearing up for more bike builds - that’s a big YES!
Love it great work
