Glad the video made it up! I discovered Avatar about 4 years ago when they played early on second stage on the first day of a music festival. First song in, I turned to my boyfriend and said "favorite band of the weekend" and now they're one of my favorites period. But you're right about them being an acquired taste, my boyfriend thinks they're just okay, and actually hates the new song. However, I dragged a friend to one of their shows with me and she has become just as hooked as I am! If you haven't already, you must check them out live. I've seen them over a dozen times now and have never been disappointed.

Also it would be awesome af if you reacted to X Japan. They are an 80s rock/metal band from Japan with a MASSIVE following outside of the States. Please try Art of Life (live in 1993). Its a 30min song so I understand if you dont, but you're missing out. It's an absolute masterpiece! All about the ups and downs of life, starting with depression and suicidal thoughts and eventually (If you pay attention to the lyrics, which I highly suggest keeping to the side when reacting) to a place of acceptance with life and moving on. The song is heart-wrenchingly beautiful with a long and emotional piano interlude in the middle. The song itself helped me get through some major low points in my life, pulling me out of a suicidal state once and other major depressive episodes several times over. Other, shorter, songs to try are kurenai, jade, X, or Silent Jealosy. The drummer, Yoshiki, is a mastermind in a similar way that Tuomos from Nightwish is. He composes a lot of their songs and plays several instruments. The band itself is interestingly (and sadly) very close to suicide, with Yoshiki's dad killing himself when he was a small child, their original bassist, and one of the original guitarists all having killed themselves. The way the band has powered through these and many other events in inspirational itself, let alone their song lyrics. Trust me, these guys are masters and the drummer is a BEAST. Even Gene Simmons from Kiss said that if they spoke English natively, they would be the biggest band in the world.
