Wow! This American woman (i.e., I) just discovered Cerys Matthews by watching on her on Acorn TV (US-based Internet streaming service of selections from British TV) where she presented Episode 1 of The Hidden Life of Books, "The Mabinogion." Though with Welsh ancestors, I am woefully ignorant of Welsh history, language, and culture. It was an incredible delight to see Cerys Matthews' enthusiastic presentation of that work and to learn of her wonderful singing talent, too. Count me as a new and very happy fan from California.
Sophiesgem, are you stupid, or just can't read? It is as clear as the summer sun that "this American woman" refers to me, as I sometimes write in the 3d person. But for clarification for the terminally stupid, I even included a parenthetical to make that abundantly clear I was referring to myself who was wowed by this lovely Welsh singer.
Sophiesgem, though a Californian, I, too, am of 100% Welsh descent (at least as far as Ancestry.com can ascertain) so the reply was most assuredly not directed generally at my fellow Welsh cousins (i.e., "for those of you from Rio Linda," that means metaphorical countrymen, not literal cousins), whom I love dearly. Instead it was intended solely for your own behoof and enjoyment given your thrice obviously intentional and needlessly snarky ad hominem "ignorant" epithet towards me when my intent was solely to praise the work of the very lovely and talented Cerys Matthews. I am suggesting that before you write nasty, snarky comments, one should at least read (and if possible, understand) what is being talked about prior to insulting someone else. Oh, and by the way, your atrocious grammar proves my point regarding your literacy. "Your" is the 2d person pronoun meaning "of" or "belonging to you." The word at least twice used by you was "your" when you should have written either "you are" or "you're." Q.E.D. Though it was you who first cast a verbal stone at me, I would most happily delete my little colloquy with you when you have apologized to me and eaten an appropriate measure of crow, and I will most cheerfully do likewise.
Carys has such a beautiful voice that is simply perfect for this lovely song. As an Englishman who lived in Cymru, this beautifully sung melody just reminds me of why I miss the place so very much, and part of the reason why I considered it to be my true home. Thank you Cerys, this has been a joy to listen to.
Cerys is the boss. She introduced me to the music of Jake Thackray for which I'll be eternally grateful. Her Sunday morning slot on BBC 6 music is rich and diverse and not to be missed.
@@jkmorrison1013 There are translations on the internet, e.g. on Wikipedia. "Calon Lân" means "a pure heart". The singer wishes for a good and pure heart instead of 'worldly wealth' and other materialistic goods.
