A lot of people are not understanding the advantages of this being a mortar product and the strength and longevity this offers over other methods. Glad it’s helping you.
I think they let it sit too long. Really had no other choice than to go solid. Opaque or more translucent look wouldve been 🔥. U have to wipe it off quick or otherwise it sets and is difficult to remove. 😊
Nope, this makes the mortar joints less pronounced and makes for a more modern appearance. It’s not exactly a typical German smear look, but the technique used is as such. Looks good man!
With this being thin set a person can use muriatic acid even after its cured to remove more if you want to. Just be careful and use rubber gloves, glasses and well ventilation.
Looks like someone didn’t do their homework on German Schmearing before hand.
Absolutely LOVE THAT LOOK....
😉❤
Thank you for sharing your experience. Much appreciate it.
When you mess up on the design, just blast the whole thing white, call it German Shmear!
Ahhh I'm just pokin fun! Actually looks great man! 👍
Great job guys
Appreciate it man.
The more around this chimney with the German Schmear the more I like it.
I need the mortar for cosmetic purposes & the bright white is the look im.after (good upload) thankx

Good point on the sealer. Is “enhanced” in the name?
This was tremendously helpful. Thank you!
Did you seal the brick first? If not did it yellow after time?
What kind of cement would you use for an old brick wall outside? If you didn't want it to deteriorate further.
Mortar to water ratio? Is it like icing? What is slake?
Will this mortar work on exterior?
FYI, fold the top over like a cuff and it makes it easier to fill and the top isn't as messy.
Thanks for the tip. That makes perfect sense.
If you fold it over a small bucket, it makes it easier to fill and shake air out - at least that works with icing piping bags.
Would I be able to do it if the fireplace has been already painted white and I painted brown and then do the smear technique???
I don’t think I’d advise going over painted surface.
Can I use a pastry bag?
If the thin set is mixed to very light consistency which it should be then yes I believe it would work.
How thick is the mixture
I don’t like the way that looks at all. I don’t know what you’re trying to achieve, but couldn’t you have just painted it white?
Because I hate painted brick.
Why not just paint it?

You might as well have painted it white. 🤦
Lol right? This is not German smear 😂 it’s just painted brick basically
I didn’t know thin set and paint were the same.

This is American Schmear
You are exactly right about the joints not standing out as much with this process. That’s the main reason I was doing it. Appreciate the comment.
Why? Is that brick work was look really ugly?
?
Are you big john dalys bro
Nope…😀😀😀😀😀
@@campbellbuilt if you had a beard you would be his ringer. Super super john super johny daly
Too much coverage........it looks painted.
The way you did I it, you might as well paint it white. Terribly done
Yang?
But, you cover up a lot of brick
