  • As soon as Musescore 4 came out, I started working on copying over this masterpiece by John Williams, "Theme from Jurassic Park". I wanted to see how realistic the orchestral sounds (Muse Sounds) are in Musescore 4... It's amazing!!
The main thing that I found a bit strange was what happens between measures 46 and 47... For some reason, that transition is very weird, at least from the audio perspective.
Other than that, Muse Sounds with Musescore 4 are amazing!!

The trumpets still need work in MuseScore 4. But I'm often amazed at just how good the french horn sounds

Definitely. As a trumpet player, I wholeheartedly agree. The trumpet's "tone" (and, of course, volume, but you can amp that up in the mixer) is much different than I was expecting. Hopefully, they work on that soon.
The French Horns are gorgeous though, gotta agree with you there.

The french horn has always been a go-to instrument for me when composing. The fact I can now hear what's going on in my mind live while writing is magical. I must admit it's helped me become a little more bold. There's just something magical about getting a proper live mockup while writing, adds another joy to the process.

The best trumpets I've heard are in noteperformer 4. They're so amazing and real!. If musesounds had the brass they have in noteperformer, It would be the perfect notation program, at least about sounds.

I was so damn annoyed - I got my first composition commission for an orchestra and had nothing else than musescore 3, bc it also would've taken too long to learn a different program until deadline. MuseScore 3 was so old that I wasn't able to get a nice format of the score, bad sound recordings, unbelievable hard function-management. Right after the concert MuseScore 4 arrived, completely reworked, a sound which reaches modern orchestral libraries in quality and realism - completely free. Man, I was really insulted :D
MuseScore 4 is absolutely fire, as well as your arrangement, great job!

Does anyone else get frustrated by the slightly too fast main string/flute part at 1:00ish onwards? It's played with a much nicer cadence and slower tempo in the film but every live performance or other recording I've seen almost seems to rush through this bit like they just want it done. But it's actually the part where you can really feel the majesty of the animals

This is not anywhere close to plagiarism by music standards. In fact, I would argue it would be both silly and nearly impossible to try to create music that doesn't sound like certain composers of the past. Why reinvent the wheel? I'd say the main issues nowadays are that the top range of each instrument tends to be a bit too low, sudden dynamic changes don't sound particularly good, rapid notes often don't sound natural, and dynamic balance is frequently quite inaccurate. Especially annoying are instruments like harp or vibraphone (where there is a huge jump between mezzo-forte and forte) and the oboe and violas (which are far too quiet and often need to be written one or two dynamics louder than in real life).

If the two horns are using the same rhythms, then notes can be stacked like chords. If they are playing in different rhythms, then you need to write them using different voices. The top horn gets voice 1, and the bottom horn gets voice 2.

Don't get carried away... I just heard this same piece played through Note Performer on three different videos and it's NOT far superior. Sure, the trumpets sound louder, but less realistic. The flute vibratoes sound exaggerated and artificial. The overall orchestra often blends poorly. Marcatos often sound like staccatos. There are Pros and Cons with both softwares, but to say that NotePerformer is FAR superior is pushing it quite a bit.
