Symphonic Fantasy - What does MuseScore 4 sound like?

  • Let's test MuseScore 4 and MuseSound with a full orchestra!
I composed an orchestral piece to get common with MuseScore 4 and test its playback quality with MuseSound. The result is pretty good - the composition as well as the playback. Always in mind that MuseScore is totaly free!
Please comment and tell how you like it!

I think they mean making more stuff like this instead of some contemporary music we hear today. After all, some of the music people are creating in our Slavic lands is completely atrocious, I hope the contemporary music in the West is better than it is here.@@Angel33Demon666

@@Angel33Demon666 This is typical 1800s Romantic Era music, it even uses the basic, traditional sonata form as its structure. it's just that modern film music still heavily use Romantic Era composition techniques to this day
If you listen closely, movies have been doing the same thing Ballets have been doing for the past 200 years
"Ride of the Valkyries" or "In the hall of the mountain king" would still fit in a movie today

As a songwriter of many years, I am impressed with this composition because it is carefully written to create separation of the orchestral sections and does what so many are afraid to do - LEAVE OPEN SECTIONS with sparse instrument performances. What great music does is let a piece BREATHE. In my humble opinion, it is often what you LEAVE OUT that makes music great. The listening experience is about accessibility to the subtle changes which can only come from restraint of the composer. I believe music of a symphony should employ a significant number of rests rather than a thunderstorm of dozens of instruments playing all at once. As in a great painting, all the colors don't have to present together to create a wonderful result. We humans can be drawn to appreciate music that respects our need for room to imagine. WELL DONE !

The new Musescore sounds are really good. For years I have avoided listening to anything written in Musescore because of its bad sounds that made my ears bleed. This is very different now.
Now, after listening to your piece and several others I think that although the samples are definitely better than NotePerformer, NotePerformer is still more natural, musical, and expressive. I am really looking forward to the new NP4 which is supposed to be released in Q1 2023.

Sehr gelungenes Fantasie! Mach weiter so!!
P.S.: Ich bin mit nicht sicher, wir realistisch der Teil ab 6:27 für die Flöten und Oboen mit dem Atmen sind

Amazing! Honestly my only comment as a percussionist would be to change those double stops to go back and forth, it would sound more idiomatic and would be easier to play. Amazing, cinematic sounding score though :)

Thanks for your comment! What exactly do you mean by "double stops"? I'm always glad to learn more details.

@@michaellyndee If I had to guess, I would say probably the timpani part around 8:07.

    • @michaellyndee
      @michaellyndee  Рік тому +1

That's what I guessed but I'm not quite sure about that. I love the double timpani but I know that the timpani sound is not what I would call a good timpani. Maybe in future I will try to fit the sound a bit with the MuseScore EQ.
For me as a non-percussionist the double timpani part should be playable well. When the timpanis are tuned to Ab - C - E - F before beginning this part, then the percussionist has the time of nearly three bars to change the tune from E to Eb. The rest can be played with this tuning so this should be not too difficult in my opinion. But as said, I'm not a percussionist and I would be glad if some more guys of knowledge wrote their comments to this point.
@John Henderson: I don't want to be condescending, so please describe your opinion and suggestion more detailed.

Wäre interessant, was wohl die großen Meister dazu gesagt hätten...

Good score. I love MuseScore. All my 3.6 scores, however, came into 4.x with reverb on every instrument, and I have had hit and miss getting batches defined in .json to work in 4.1.1. Still working on it.

The reverb button on each instrument was added in 4.1 and I find it more difficult to get a good sound out of it than in 4.0

You make composing look so easy. I was so happy with my four bar long piece for flute, cello and piano.
My only suggestion is at 9:27 the cellos have dotted crotchets in the 3/4 time. It is easier for most classical musicians to read a crotchet tied to a quaver and then a quaver tied to a crotchet, because it uses the right grouping. Dotted notes, unless with a not to fill the beat, are usually reserved for compound time signatures like 3/8, 6/8, 9/8 etc. I know it technically sounds the same, but if I was a musician receiving this music (which you should absolutely get a real orchestra to play!), I would appreciate little things like that to make the music easier to read.

Thanks for your comment! In most cases I would agree with you. But because every note at this part has the same duration, in my opinion it's easier to read with dotted notes. But this perhaps is just a personal preference of mine.
