i do have a vcr tape from skyfire of the 4449 going to Wishram pulling a daylight consist in the 90's i believe and it seems like not long after that the daylight cars scattered all over the place.
Nah. i don't think so. Trains depart union station and the station is enclosed by crossings. Drivers on the trains may use the horn to warn people to not go around the gates.
As a matter of fact, both the UP 844 and SP 4449 own the exact whistle brand model. Including locomotives such as the N&W 611. A Hancock 3-Chime Step-Top Long-Bell.
2 questions: 1: is there a maximum speed (percentage of rated forward speed) that a loco can run when going "backward"? Or is it 100 percent both directions? 2: when 2 locos are on a train -- such as in this video -- how do they set their relative power? How do they configure power settings so that one isn't running at 90 percent and the other is at 30 percent?
train gamer529 its the first time its been out they just getting it back to readiness before they send it anywhere else but yes its in Oregon still. wish it would come out this way though ;D
Erm, actually, a lot of German engines from the Deutsche Bahn had tenders with wind screens specifically designed for them to go backwards at high speeds

It's Shameful to treat tender engines like this, 844 shunt 4014 as restoration began in 2016, not only 844 didn't get her turn to lead 4014 on the return trip but as they arrived home, 844 has to shunt 4014's water tender as well as her own, 4449 has to pull the train backwards, people thinks she's a switcher engine, and 611 did the same thing in Strasburg just because there's no turntable or place to turn, and everybody asked embarrassing questions, and to add to that, they're forced to run tender first and do switching duties, Ugh! 4449, 611, and 844 won't shunt like common tank engines or switcher engines, they're important tender engines, maybe the diesels should do it while 4449 move lightly to the station, Tender Engines Don't Shunt!

She's a beauty...thanks for sharing this with us.
So, is that crossing a quiet zone now?
Hey
Nope!
Nope. As of 2021 not yet.

OMG. Backing in, using the Front Coupler. Now that I've seen that, I can die in peace.....

AWESOME!
Wow that train looks huge
It did for the 84' worlds fair... From what I remember the cars were from various sources...
Nah. i don't think so. Trains depart union station and the station is enclosed by crossings. Drivers on the trains may use the horn to warn people to not go around the gates.
Does anybody think the whistle sounds kind of like UP 844s whistle?

Geeze, they have that Locomotive all tore down right now. Wonder when they'll get it back together?
+Khadijah Brown I heard from somebody they'll run it again after the Portland Light Rail is finished.
+train gamer529 its running right now on the holiday express trains that it does around Christmas
Tigerman7warfighter
They do that, but they don't run it to Chicago. Unbelivable!
Tigerman7warfighter I hope to come over there Saturday to see it. I am at South Waterfront in the servant's quarters. :)

@CoasterFan2105 no this one isn't. the one on 9th Ave is now though.
@clinthudson1226 May 8th, I believe
question. didnt 4449 have an entire daylight coach consist back in the late 80's early 90's if so what happened to the cars?
I believe most of them are now part of Union Pacific's business fleet.
what whistle?
Cool
0:47
I like it
Up 844s sister took his whistle
@kr4449 An original GS Daylight 3-chime
Is sp4449 it not @kr4449
thomasrosiefan1
Cool! My birthday month!
The daylight has some nasty side rod clank.
what day is national train day?
If you go to 0:45 you can see a Daylight coach for like a second
Thats a observation car
Where was this?
This was in Downtown Portland. The crossing is within sight of the Union Station.
A whopping 3 cars and it still requires a diesel come on
The diesel was sitting idle, being towed.
i may be a fan of steamers, but when i see one running tender forward, it disgusts me

sssooooo 30 people really voted this down????
Haha to this day, I have no idea why.
One of those dislikes is my ex-girlfriend who is a railfan. She's narcissistic, crazy, mental, and now pregnant. Don't get me started....
